Hey hey, how are you doing Joe Satriani? Damn it's been a real long time since I been on this site (or the net for that matter!?). Well I better introduce myself - BIGTIM - me and you met a few in my home town of Manchester in the U.K! Remember I'm that 7ft1 dude with blonde hair, ring any bells? Well either way things have sure changed man, I've got a record deal FINALLY! I've been extremely busy with studios and what-not, you'll know what I mean by busy huh? :-) I'm coming to the show at the Manchester Apollo on July 20. I really can't wait to hear the new sounds you've done live. Oh yeah, I like the new album but what the hell are you using EMAGIC for? CUBASE is better, then again horses for courses right? OK! I gotta say that I do prefer CUBASE mainly because of the compatibility with the GIGASAMPLER software. I do hope we can meet after the show. It'd be nice to see you and talk to you again - Oh, I got engaged recently so you can meet my fiancee too! She's a big fan you know. I'm off to get some dinner now, till we meet again, keep the faith amigo. Regards. Bigtim. P.S. Hi to all who read this message. I hope you are doing ok and I hope we can chat in the future. Best wishes to you all. ;-)

Hey, Joe and friends, Prog X here. Just wanted to dicuss a few issues today. First off...I have just been informed that John Entwistle (I hope I spelled that right) has died at 57. My condolences go out to the family and friends of John, a superior musician in his own right. He will be greatly missed. *** Jon Luini...Hey, buddy, listen...I seem to be having a slight problem. I cannot seem to send a message via the chat forum. I put my screen name in and log in successfully, bring up chat, and try to type a message, only to be greeted by a message that says "What do you think your doing? Comments must be sent from www.satriani.com. ????? Can you please help? My browser opens up a separate window for chat, if that makes a difference...I don't know. Thanks! :) *** Okay, okay, I did it. Finally broke down and decided I was going to the New York show in September...Joe got us tickets today! Work schedule be damned...I'll learn to adapt, I'll learn to overcome! :) (Clint Eastwood, from the movie "Heartbreak Ridge".) Anyway, I'll be back in Stadium 1, Row S, so I can't guarantee that the famous "Rubber Guitar" will make an appearance this year...but we'll see! Perhaps if Gannman and I win those aftershow passes (hint hint, hee hee...), I'll have a nice little demo CD of my own music to hand to Joe and the band this year (FINALLY! Some Prog-ress!) *** Joe Satriani...have a good time on the road this year, looking forward to the New York show! :) Here's wishing you a safe trip. Kudos!

Crushing Day... rules.

Joe - Any chance of Memories or Hordes of Locusts? You just can't overlook those. Those are classics.

Austin - lovin' the reviews man, keep em coming...

Man, Joe must be pretty busy...I have never seen the board go this long without a post from the man himself. Only about 3 more days until the tour kicks off in Bulgaria, so I suppose he would be busy.

I'm convinced that this album will bring Joe that long awaited Grammy. If he doesn't get it this time, I believe we can officially call Joe music's version of Susan Lucci.

Oh well, I think the rush of new members since the release of SBM shows that there is still a very viable market for "virtuoso" music. There's that old saying, that every once in awhile, when rock starts to get boring, somebody is always there to give it a good kick in the ass. In the '80s, hair metal reigned, and then, all of a sudden, Nirvana changed all that (unfortunately). With the recent trends of nu-metal, teen pop, and boy bands starting to wane ever so slightly, maybe, just maybe, this Strange Beautiful Music is the "kick in the ass" that today's music needs. Let's all hope so.

Dear Joe: I haven’t listened to SBM yet, but I’m sure I’ll like it! I just write to thank you. If it wasn’t for your music and your site, I would have never found a SBT (Strange Beautiful Thing) that now brightens all my days. If someone needs evidences to believe that music can change the life, that's one!

Baci!

Thanks for all of the replies about the songs, everyone. I know my "reviews" aren't the best...I don't know much about theory, etc... But the main thing I wanted to do was to generate some discussion. So this is really cool. :-)

shell - I never thought of Mind Storm from the borg point of view...but it does fit. Thanks for the thought.

ethn - You listed You Saved My Life, Chords Of Life, and New Last Jam as your least favorites from SBM. Those three are definately favorites for me...what don't you like about them?

Prog X - You can hit return between different parts of your posts now, to insert spaces. Hehe...

gruskada - LOL at the guitars...are they prototypes for the new JS3000?

...Austin...

NICK - i am impressed -- but don't just break the song down (you did it well though), dissect the riff, melody or solo and tell us what it does for you emotionally. that's the fun part of writing these little reviews. your breakdown sounds right so far -- he could play those harmony parts with just one guitar though, and he probably will. if he doesn't play mind storm,.... i will never forgive him!!! 7 string on the road!! that is going to ROCK , can't wait.

Where to begin..... Im sorry he died, but nobody young knows who he is. IN ten years everybody'll be like "who?". it's how music is. just an opinion.

Ethn- you're done. you are totally backwards on the ratings thing. Belly dancer is the best song ever. and sbm is definitely not sixth.

oriental melody sucks. i mean it's alright. but compared to the rest its crap.

sleep walk just plain sucks. kinda boring.

sorry for being so critical today.

Hah! Tomorrow I'm going to listen and buy the new album. HMV's Biggest Ever Summer Sale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah! That's more like it. I'm also gonna go out to buy Van Halen's "Right here Right now" album. Can't wait t'ill the tour. Another 20 days t'ill Shepherds Bush! Joe, I'm really happy that you're going to play "Crushing Day" on the tour. Can't wait. I also totally agree with JS Clone 1. You have to play "Memories" and "Hordes of Locusts" on the tour. That would rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MINDSTORM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe, the more I listen to SBM the more I absolutely love it. Right now " Belly Dancer" has to be my favorite. "Chords of Life" is killer too. That one has some of the best changes I've ever heard. You completely lull the listener to sleep, and then ram your fist down their throat with one of the ballsiest bluesy solo's I've ever heard. Thanks for the new ideas to add to MY solo's!
