Gday all. I like many are glad that Joe is going to play Crushing Day(finally hehehe). I think it would be appropriate to bring out a new concert DVD with Joe playing this and many classic tunes that we may not have seen played. Time Machine, Speed of Light, Lights of Heaven, Midnight, and while Turkey Man is a new song, it cant be overlooked. I think another DVD would always be a welcome addition to Satch fans - the first one was a success so how about it?

Thanks Austin, I'll Buy one of those amd try it...I think the Blue text will be pretty rare here in the next few months, Completely Understandable since joe will be touring, even though I think it's kinda weird to skip the whole northwest part of north america, But i also realize joe does not make those decisions, Thats twice in a row with no Portland or Seattle dates...Im not wining..Just kinda puzzeled.. .....Oh ya , as of this moment I rank SBM # 2 on the satch album rankings....The album is so well mixed and produced its Amazing..This album shoud be played at a High Volume on a nice stereo, My neighbors now the album as well as i do.......

a sad day for rock and roll and bass players everywhere. rest in peace, john entwistle, you contributed more than many even aspire to.

john was always a huge influence on me from the time i started playing bass and continuing today. one of my basses i bought from a friend who had it signed by john when he played a show at the same club. that bass suddenly has taken on a whole new meaning to me that i wish it hadn't. :{

OK, EOC was good, not bad, nice experiments, some songs really rocked and some were exceptional in technique (until we say goodbye, powercosmic, slow and easy, ). Crystal planet in my opinion was the best CD so far. and before that the extremist and surfing remastered. but Strange Beutiful Music sets new standards. It does not have to very fast soloing and crunchy things too much. there is a lot of emphasis on very groovy rhythms, and the guitar soloing parts are very sweet sounding esp. in the slower songs. the fast ones rock. This is a very different CD. with influences from the past. but it concentrates (it seems to me) on guitar and its sound and more technique instead of too much thrash soloing. This is The Best Joe Satriani CD so far. listen esp to the version of Sleep walk. The rhythms are amazing. the 7 string sounds are beautiful. all songs are superb. This CD may win multiple Grammy's.

Here's the next part of my "review"...just a few comments on Belly Dancer. I only had two or three people reply to me last time... Is this a good idea or does it suck? ;-)

Belly Dancer - This is a great song...definately one of my favorites on the album. I love the "free for all" ending...it's really different and sounds so spontaneous. It would be cool to see Satch do things like this more often in his music. I love the "Satch Boogie" tapping with the backwards drums as well. My favorite part is the jam at the end, from 2:59-4:42. I especially love what the bass and rhythm guitars are doing.

Come on everyone, what are your favorite things about this song?

OK Austin, OK, I'll write bits about the first three songs while I listen to them right now....

Oriental Melody-

Great starting riff- it's really catchy the underlying theme to this song. Drums come in- with arkward 4/4 a la Time. Echoey guitar part- not my favourite, but is quite moody. The moody theme keeps going with some exotic scale. Then Joe plays some groovy chorus like hooks, which I love, before returning to the original theme with synth strings adding to the tune. Then Joe starts to solo- usual deal- slow changes of key, some pretty cool riffs come up with. Then back to the echoey guitar bit, followed by the chorusy hook bit. That has to be my favourite bit of the tune. More stringey tuneness, before the drums come out, and the tune ends neatly.

Belly Dancer-

Cool classic satch riff, sounds like some earlier stuff in composition with a guitar riff or two, a tune over the top and some fairly standard drums.

Very cool pre-chorusy bit, particularly when the harmony guitar bit comes in. Makes me very dizzy. The chorus tune- sounds quite Vai-ish in my opinion, particularly with the tapping coming in kinda reminiscent of Steve Vai's Fever Dream.

Then back to the main tune again, followed by an outro riff which the band basically jam to.

Starry Night- The delicate accompaniment of chords with a fairly delicate tune is throughout this one, similarly to "you Saved My Life". There is a chord change that suggests to me Joe might have been listening to Oasis at the time... I dunno but something about that chord makes me think of Oasis. if i listened properly I'm sure i would recognise it as an Augmented chord. I dunno.

The outro has a very cool guitar chord sequence which reminds me of john Petrucci on the softer bits of "Biaxident and Hourglass" from LTE.

It strikes me now that most of these tunes don't follow the standard verse chorus, solo patterns that we're quite used to from earlier records. he's put definite codas in most of them.

Invigor - yes, i noticed that a whole bunch of new members were posting on the site when joe released his new material. funny how that works, huh? i find it quite entertaining at least -- the fact that not just satch's hard core fans are digging it (like the did from the beginning), but joe is constantly getting new fans. i think it's pretty cool.

Austin - Hill Groove - the song starts out with a melody that is very matter-of-fact; happy. it's somewhat steve-vai-ish. the mixolydian and diminished notes give it a very on-the-edge, groovy jazz-fusion feel that gets your feet tapping. then, the key subtelely (is that a word?) changes to an endorphin-pumping bluesy chorus. joe doubles his playing here, and it helps to boost the positive atmosphere of the song. the solo plunges into screamingly fast legato, yet it is elegant and precise (joe always is...).

Mountain Song - the song starts out with a solid, pulsing, arpeggiated minor chord that resonates tightly with the melody. joe switches dramatically between major and minor licks, creating an awe-inspiring sensation (behold the mountain!). then the solo kicks in -- joe attacks violently with nasty key changes and harmonic minor galore. the pulsing bass and drums establish the grandeur of the mountain, the soloing inspires aggressive adventure. then, joe slips emotionally back into the melody...

I DARE somebody to try mind storm. heh heh.

Local Dude - So man, when can we jam? Are you free over the summer?

Ya Yo - They should make a new Harry Potter movie with Malmsteen as the bad guy, and call it "Harry Potter and the Fretwanker's Ego"!!!!!

Plum Loco - A house, huh? So when's the house warming party?

Anybody know if Robert Fripp is touring with Joe so he can play Sleep Walk live? I don't really like that track (sounds like something from the "Grease" soundtrack...) but it sure would be cool to see Fripp and Satch on the same stage...

Sad day for WHO fans...just before they started a tour of US too. RIP John Entwistle. I saw the WHO live back in ...?????They were one of my favourite bands way back. My Generation...(what a giveaway!)

Clarky: you will really have to listen more carefully!!!(See what I mean about the psychological effect of this new layout!!!)

Austin: the reason few people reply to you is because your nick's too long....;) Here's what I think of Mindstorm(preliminary thoughts...) sorry we're not keeping to your schedule of one song per day in strict order...! ..and this will not be a technical review... Mindstorm sounds to me like those two borgs having another conversation! Anyone else think that?

Respected Joe Satriani, Hi!!!!!!!! I'm from India and just wanted to ask you a very spooky question, i.e., lets say that if in an Ibanez guuitar, the 7 string model{Universe as used also by Steve Vai}, if we tune the Guitar from top to bottom or bottom to top with the strings tuned as A,B,C,D,E,F,G, and then just strum IT openly, then which chord will IT be or sound like one , and the same goes for the all the strings tuned at all sharps and flats at the above tuning. I will really appreciate IT if you can tell me the Answer to this Why{Vai} Question of mine.. Thanx.. I'm dying to know it as I'm also you #1 fan and since you are my Biggest Inspiration & Idol, I'm also a serious Guitar player.. Thanx.. I will really appreciate IT if you can send me the reply at the following Email:- manav@stationplay.com Thanx.. Always With You, Always With Me, Manav Gandhi.. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ..

master yoda of neilage! - well, some of the summer i'm free, term ends on the 19th July (day after satriani) The week after that is a good time though- problem is my amp's just gone faulty- i got a bad high/low power switch :( Let me know..

Chords of life Starts out with a soft tune with Mrs. Vai on harp, some classical stylee changes go on, after which you hear inversions of arpeggios played by Mr Satriani, which brings you into the acoustic guitar chord theme of the song- plenty of parallel fifths, as it goes Gm F Eb Dm Cm all in root position. Still, I don't think Joe's trying to copy Bach :) Joe then comes in with bluesy guitar on top of those chords, then a new chord sequence comes along with some pretty fast, high bluesy soloing, which then breaks off into the harp and soft tune theme again. Again into what I assume are the "chords of life" and the bluesy guitar, which continues until fade out. Lots of different feels in this one, very nice tunes.
