I have been listening to SBM a lot today. It seems to be getting more criticism than any Joe album has had before. I must say, I love about half of the tunes. Yea, its not the most progressive album ever, especially when compared to the Satch 'classics' but I enjoy it anyway. Its got some great wee bits in there. And I like Belly Dancer, Starry night, Chords of Life, Mountain Song, What breaks a Heart, The Journey, Hill Groove.

I am also missing being able to easily read the posts. I just can't be bothered going to page after page. I only click to see if Joe has posted and thats about it. I hope Jon can do something to make it asier to view everyone's posts. I can't even find my own post!

On a brighter note, I got my tickets for Atlanta today!!! Excellent. I may try and get to another in NJ, NY or MD too. I was really pissed that I am going to miss the UK dates by a few days. I get back from there on July 14. Bummer.

Harpo2002 - JS and DT will each play 90 minute sets.

The Forgotten Part 2 - I think EOC received MUCH MORE criticism than this album is getting. :-)

gruskada - I think the opening to Raspberry Jam Delta V would make a good cell phone ring, if you could figure it out.

now that i have had a couple of days with it im cool its like the first time i stuck ultra zone in the cd player and that lady starts chanting im like what the **** is that lolol

now i love it ive spent the last few years getting all these alternate and sweeping stricks down then i get a new satch cd and realise a: my hammer on/legato stuff is a little rusty hahahhahah and B: why i started playing guitar in the first place

i don't know why u guys aint talking about the traveller that lonely lamenting bitter sweet melody has me humming it all day at work

and kws eat your heart out at starry night

satch bro you have a pretty good fan base here in kentucky rupp arena is a viable venue for one such as yourself so em cough *hint hint* cough

Shell, my review consists of either "it sucks, or I love it". lol! Not to technical if you ask me :) BUT there is definitely Borgage in that song!

ProgX is in the house! :)

I forgot to mention ~ when I bought SBM, I was so excited to have it that I started opening it while I was driving. I don't even have a cd player in my car! I just wanted to see what the insert & the cd looked like. I ripped off the plastic wrap and threw it at my daughter as she called me names like psycho woman, then peeled the sticker part with the words on it off the top of the cd. Amazingly, it all came off in one piece (it never does), so I stuck it to the top of my windshield. lol! Now every time I get in my car I think " I'm so retarded, it's still there!". I have no idea when I'll peel it off? So now I drive around with this sticker on my window that says Joe Satriani ~ Strange Beautiful Music ~ and I have a sh*t eatin' grin on my face to go with it.

HA! To be a Satch fan....

Sorry to hear about Entwhistle! RIP. I missed the Listening party, my comps too old to work on that stuff. Hope you all had fun, and maybe learned something. Having fun making compulation cd's. Putting together a couple of new ones for Above the Numbers. Stay cool, KTF Randell

hehehe michelle ..

my story is something similar the 26 on my first break at work (12:30) i took that fifteen minutes to run next door and pick it up at the cd shop i brought it into work and popped into the computer and was jamming it out on my headphones which i picked up for that purpose (a serious breach of the conduct handbook)

whats the meaning of all this that little sticker thing came off in one piece for me too which it never does and i stuck it on my monitor so now every time i see it im like a what a moron i am

yep to be a satch fan

KDA -- i would have to contest your ASSessment of Oriental Melody and Sleepwalk -- i understand perfectly that oriental melody can be real hard to get used to, but once you hear it all the way through (that's the key) a couple times, you will discover that you actually like it. joe uses the harmonic minor scale in the song in a very delicate, precise way, to make it less yngwie-ish shredding harmonic minor, and much more like middle eastern sounding. joe must have studied up pretty good on those sounds to reproduce it with a guitar. i think it is captivating to hear such ancient sounds come from such a new, and modern instrument (and from a new and modern player....). i didn't really like oriental melody until today, when i really gave it a good listen. the same goes for New Last Jam -- i didn't really like the riff... until i let the listening party play through it, and when i heard the solo, my jaw dropped. i was blown away. so yes, the music IS strange, and it is DEFINITELY beautiful... as for sleepwalk -- i am tempted to say that it is supposed to be boring. heh. i mean, sheesh, just look at the title. i think that song perfectly depicts a sleepwalk. heck, even the tone of the guitar encourages a sort of detached, stare-off-into-space attitude. i think the cover is done really well, and the song is really cool. how could you say it "sucks" when it's been a classic for decades? i guess it just comes down to preference..... anyway.. the reason i replied to your post was beause i too, at first, really didn't like oriental melody that much at all. i was actually sort of disappointed and confused as to why it was the first song on such a great album. so, i decided to give it a good listen, and i was really impressed. i am merely suggesting that you give the song a good listen because that may be all it takes for you to like it -- if you still don't like it, well that's fine, just as long as you have given the song a fair shot, you know what i mean?

Joe....... I picked up your cd on Monday night at a record store, but decided to wait until Tuesday morning...the "official release date" to listen to it.. Tuesday morning it was me, SBM and a 4 hour car ride.. so my listening experience was uninterrupted..and I must say.. the title says it all...It truly is Strange Beautiful Music. Though your approach to writing seems much differen from past records.. its got the Satch feel all over it...and by that I mean the cd is rockin', emotional...strange and beautiful... And you always seem to find a sound for 'love' with your guitar...how do you do it? Can't wait to see you in Baltimore... ray...

Guitar art- har har. very funny. i like your thinkin.

Alien32....97? 97??!! i would welcome 97. not to be snotty, but 97....is not 106.

You've done it again, Joe...wow. What a record! I didn't get my copy 'til Wednesday, and I had to goto 2 different stores to find a copy, but the wait has all been woth it. I'm one of the people who really loved the "Engines" album and I think this one's every bit as good. Some really great tunes and it just continues to get better. Kudos.

Hi, I'd really like to know the kind of settings Joe uses on his DS-1 and which Dunlop Wah pedal he uses. Is it the GCB-95 or the 535Q pedal? A reply would be greatly appreciated =)

yep yep yep so I got through 38 pages and all for what? I have a few memories to look back on now.

okay so i forgot that the meta stuff requires the square bracket things and not the diples as in html whoops!

Crushing Day!!! Damn I wish I could be at a concert to see/hear that!!!

When are we going to get a "Talk To Austin" site? Stuff this Joe business. Who is he anyway? Joe who? and why do they keep booing Stu Hamm? He is a great bass player (heh heh heh - the bait is set)

That guy who was complaining before stop whingeing although the "not like i said the yngwie word" was pretty funny.

Thankyou Nick for stopping the bold caps, it really does come across as shouting.

Any ideas when SBM comes out in Australia? Could be ages. I'll check out every week or two.

PS Deutchland for World Cup!!! DEUTCHLAND DEUTCHLAND DEUTCHLAND!!! OI OI OI!!!

PPS Oliver Kahn for G3!!!

Here we are...part three:

Starry Night - I wasn't too sure about this one when I first heard it. Now that I've listened to the rest of the album, though, I think it's a great choice for a single. I like the bit from 1:44-2:16...it reminds me of friends from the LISF show that I attended. It appears again from 2:39-2:47. I love Joe's tone on this song...nice and bluesy. There are some cool fills in here as well, but I won't list them all. :-)

I have a question. Is the beginning of "ATTACK" from ENGINES a quote from Mechwarrior II? If it isn't then it just sounds alot like it, but if it is it would make alot of sense -TADD
