Austin --- I really dig EOC as well but the funny thing is i never really thought of it as something so completely different and odd that it wouldn't be well-accepted. Every album of Joe's is different and that's what I like about his music!!! So when I first heard EOC i just thought of it as another cool disc from Satch.

Ice9mike --- if i'm not wrong the Chemical Brothers don't use Samples all that much; they are one of those electronic bands that actually don't employ that many samples. A friend of mine was really impressed cos they make up a lot of their sounds when playing live (using computers i think)

hi joe ,i know that you don't know me, my name is ally i am from birmingham, england you have probably had a lot of messages to do with your forth coming trip to the u.k but please belive me when i say that this is the one that you want to take notice of. when i first heard of you, you where just a name but now all i hear is your music played out on andys ibanez, never in my life have i seen such determination. he is currently practicing on his own, hoping to find other prospective band members that are up to his standard, but for some reason i know if he waits he isnt gonna find what he's looking for.He has been devoted to giutar playing since he was 9 he is now 22 so im sure you can appreciate the time span.so please i am been honest when i say that you have gotta hear him.

Not much to talk about really for awhile...count on Austin to bring in a good new topic to talk about!

While I absolutely love the whole EOC album, I wouldn't want to see Joe duplicate it. Part of what makes Joe so great is that he keeps us guessing - none of his albums make me go "Hmmm...this sounds much like (insert previous Joe album here)". There is a different feel and vibe to every single album. For a pure rock record with killer riffage, I pop in Crystal Planet. For all out innovative shred mayhem, it's Surfing With the Alien. Smooth grooves with mucho soul - Flying in a Blue Dream. And so on. EOC is an absolute gem...it's techno fury at its absolute finest, with all of Satriani's soul. However, I love being surprised by what Joe comes out with next. SBM was a very, very pleasant surprise, with its blend of heartfelt ballads, eastern style melodies, and pure hard rocking power. It's being able to watch Joe's influences and tastes evolve in this way that keeps us interested - if he just released Surfing With the Alien knockoffs every year, he'd be putting awesome music out, but it would get repetitive after awhile. This is all personal opinion, of course, so please, nobody get offended by my views!

Hi everyone...

EOC stuff - Here are a few comments in reply to what different people have said. I know each of Joe's albums have been in a different style, but I don't see a problem with doing more techno stuff. If you want to get picky, all of his albums have bass and drums on them, even though they're in different styles. While they're all different, you can still put most of the music under a "rock" category. I wonder how many different albums using the EOC setup (guitars, computers, Pro Tools) that would each be different in their own way while still fitting under a "techno" category like EOC did. It sounds like something that could work on a smaller record label, almost like Steve Vai's Favored Nations. I wonder if he'd go for something like that.

Playing the stuff live is an entirely different story. That's why I'd want the stuff to be on a different label...maybe then Joe wouldn't feel as pressured to play the stuff live. Although I do think some of the stuff could turn out great, even if it doesn't sound completely like the studio versions. I think a live rendition of Champagne? could be awesome, as I've mentioned before.

elpp - Congrats on 2nd place... :-)

jblaze1 - You can't go to any page after 21? that's really weird. I didn't try all the way to 30, but I was able to get from 20 to about 25 or so... Hmmm...

JS Clone 2 - I don't play piano, but it's cool that you got to use such a nice one.

Quantum What I was getting at is that at some level there is sampleing taking place and Chem Bros. play that sample at some point. They manipulate it live, but it's still a canned recording from a computer or off the DJ. It's all legitamate music and I dig it, but I can't picture Joe spinning records, although mayber Eric could do it for him. Can you imagine a show with The Chemical Brothers and Joe on guitar? That would be historic.

On another note, I just started Hyperion. So far it's a really good read. I heard it described as a Chaucer in Space. Very epic in nature.

Here we are...part 11...

Hill Groove - I've never heard Joe play anything like this before. It's always great to hear Joe go in a new direction. There are a few different places Joe goes on this album--Chords Of Life (acoustic), Mind Storm (seven string), and then this song--, and it would be nice to see these same ideas come up again in other songs on future releases. My favorite part of this song is the bit from 1:25-1:55.

Death Cube K - Jem Fest Canada...heh just make sure you get permission to use Jem Fest as I think it was just made a perfectly 'legal' event, and tax deductable by the IRS (USA). I know the organizers are open to expanding Jem Fest it's self, but honestly, it takes away from the original JEM FEST. That is just my personal point of view, but I am sure there are a few people that would agree with me. Just my $0.02...

I've been listening to Mr. Satriani for a very long time now and was wondering why he's never gone into doing movie soundtracks. I mean Stu Copeland is doing that and Satriani has the perfect sound for that kind of stuff.

I think its something that should be given some thought. So many songs have so much feeling in them, and are very condusive to creating "atmosphere". I think it would be nice to watch a movie that had the soundtrack/incidental music done by Joe Satriani.

Invigor - Correct me on hearing? What 20hz to 20,000hz? What is wrong with what I said?

20hz - 22,000hz. I heard that far. You can't tell me it's 20,000hz DEAD STOP! So the MAXIMUM range of human is 20,000.0000000000hz. DONE! .... No I don't think so.

It can still go slightly over by another 1000hz or so.

Master Yoda: cool melodies.....

While everyone is talking about EOC and "good techno", check out anything by Talvin Singh - especially "OK". I'm not really into techno, but I love that record. Of course, it's not as favored as EOC. Joe always amazes me by being different. It's someting I've come to over the years- "expect the unexpected".

see ya's - kell
