r6rocker - the theorists that changed the names of the modes to Greek believed that the modes themselves originated in ancient Greece... this however does not mean that it is true.. only that these Greek names 'stuck'.

modes don't = positions... they are scales in their own right that are derived from a 'parent' scale [the major scale].

example: if you are playing in the key of G, you apply the 'template' that determines the series of intervals for a major scale to the tonic note of G. This means that you can then calculate the rest of the notes [and therefore chords] for the scale... in this case G, A, B, C, D, E, F#.. If you are playing in the key of Em, you apply the template for a series of intervals for a minor scale using the note E as the 1st note [the tonic]. The gives you E, F#, G, A, B, C, D. Although the notes are essentially the same, the scale is completely different. This is due to the relationship between the notes of the scale [in terms of intervals] and the tonic [in this case E]. The modes work in exactly the same way. If you are playing a I, IV, V progession in A Dorian, the result is Am, D, C and the notes available are A, B, C, D, E, F#, G. Again the same notes that are available in G but the scale is completely different. The fingerings for G major and all modes associated are therefore identical all over the neck [because these scale / modes all contain the same pitches]. However, their tonality is completely different.

this is to joe.......if ever you ask yourself ...what is it all for? i would like you to remember this...besides all of us fans on this site ......there is one person , somone who has been dealt extremely bad hands in this life...someone who should have given up by now...he has lived through things that i could never have stood up to.....a good friend to all.... He was ready to throw in the towel some years back and then he heard , what he said to be the most odd sounding guitar music...it put him in what i call the satriani trance, and found a positive way to deal with all his woes....your music inspired him to pick up a guitar on his own , and since then, i have watched him really smile and enjoy life a little more than i thought was possible for him....whenever he feels he cant deal with the now....he picks up that guitar and makes it over that hill.... thank you.......

Hi everyone. Happy Friday the 13th.

njbeast - I've answered your first question a few times. It is cheaper for Japanese people to buy CDs imported from the US than to buy locally produced Japanese CDs. To encourage people to buy the Japanese discs, record companies include bonus tracks on them.

PhyrgianDominant - LOL...but I think that name is just a little too long. ;-)
jamoon - Look through my old posts from the day or two after the Amsterdam webcast. I list the set list for that show. The England set lists were 99% similar.
Naty - I don't drink either. It's still illegal for me (I'm only 19), but everyone here at school does it all the time anyway. Man, people are stupid sometimes.

Joe, how the hell are you? This is SFO, YOUR premier Satriani Tribute band. I sent a package to 107.7 the bone to hopefully play for the sideshow at bone bash III. I hope you get a chance to listen to the demo and put in a good word for us to play there. Either way, were going to see you, and of course, Neil Schon, my other guitar hero. I would love to get the opportunity to meet you and your band sometime. Thanks, and webmaster, if you see this and Joe doesn't, could you please forward this to him?

AW, i'm kinda put off tonight. If anyone remembers myself or Clone 2 mentioning that we were going to be playing Mystical Potato Head and The Attitude Song at our school show in May, I got the tape. It had our intro, skipped Clone 2's little brother's drum solo (mid set) and didn't record any of The Attitude Song.

How does one express extreme disappointment in words without resorting to anger?

PhrygianDominant - A freewill choice can be stupid. Just because someone does something completely for their own reasons doesn't excuse them from the fact that it might not be a smart thing to do. When I made my original comment I was referring mostly to people at my school. Most people here drink just to get drunk. And I think it's dumb to put your body through that kind of stuff...freewill choice or not.

Ovation, I have a brother and a cousin named Michael McCarthy...lol, but I'm sure neither of them grew up next door to you. There are a lot of "Micks" out on the east coast...lol. Besides Framingham, I also lived in Worcester and Southboro. A good majority of the thousand concerts I went to were in Worcester, Boston, Great Woods and Sulllivan Stadium..you know where I'm talking about :)

Phrygian Dominant, Happy Birthday to you !!!!

Clarky, I ALMOST understood exactly what you were talking about as far as modes, but then I lost you. It's not you, it me. I wonder if there is a book out there called "Scales, Modes and Theory for Dummies" 'cause that's the book for me. I want so much to know those things by heart like you and "it seems like" everyone else.

Happy Friday the 13th to all.......I'm giving what little "Irish luck" I have to all of you...lol. Peace, Dave.................Hi Joe :)
