That Stratocaster that Dweezil is selling does have a lot of history behind it, but the fact that it is not all original might sway some people from buying it. I know that if I had the option of buying it, I would want it because Jimi had played/owned it, but it's not the same neck that Jimi played on, which for me takes away a lot of the allure. It sounds like Dweezil is strapped for cash. If Frank Zappa was my dad, I would'nt be selling his guitar.

Hi, Joe! I had to chuckle the other day because I had Slow Down Blues playing in the car and it was one of those CRAZY days at work. Just as you said, "you got to slow down" in the song, I realized I was doing 55 mph in a 30! You may have spared me a ticket! Anyway...my song of the day must be "You Saved My Life" - what a gorgeous song. I love everything about that song, but especially all the beautiful imbellishment you put in surrounding the tune-so masterful! I rode in silence after that one for a half hour. There was just nothing else I wanted to hear! Hope your chilling out...and maybe dreaming of new stuff already! Peace!

MegaBoyd: had to watch the Show Of Hands video after that!! I was there! And it was the last time I saw em :(
NonSmoker:: reasons aside, I thought Joe might wanna know. I reckon I would :-) but news that it's partial - hmmmm pretty sad really. How can DZ be short of cash? oh, better not go there ;-) Again, pretty sad really.... to have your unquestionably iconic name tarred by such an act.... oh wait... we should be careful. It's just opinion, after all - Jimi was Jimi, and nothing can change that. Frank was Frank, and nothing can change that either. If they are house-cleaning at Zappa-Central then let em ;-) but I think I'd put my money on your opinion ;-)

Tapper5 - Ok you know the C major scale then. You could also say you know Cmaj (ionian), D Dorian, E phrygian, F Lydian, G Mixolydian, A Aeolian (minor) and B Locrian.
Say, you learn C# major and it's modes for example?
Also for example you could take the scale you already know all over the neck and try something different.
For example, I can't even count the hundreds of times i've played E minor or major or whatever all over the neck but I keep finding new ways to ascend and descend through the scale. I might run up the scale using 3 notes per string, 4 notes per string, 5 notes per string, or 3 notes on one string and 5 notes on the next. Or I may ascend by 3rds (1-3, 2-4, 3-5 etc...).

This is my knowledge of major scale stuff:
B, 5#s
E, 4#s
A, 3#s
D, 2#s
G, 1#
C, all naturals
F, 1b
Bb, 2bs (A#)
Eb, 3bs (D#)
Ab, 4bs (G#)
Db, 5bs (C#)
Gb, 6bs (F#)
But stuffed if I know where they go! Note (no pun intended sorry) there are 5 notes (or 5 frets) from one to the next.
I assume that wwhwwwh means wholewholehalfwholewholewholehalf? I always saw it written and heard it as ttsttts (tonetonesemitonetonetonetonesemitone) but who gives a fuzzynonos?

I'm sure the tab for the Top Gun theme could be found by doing a search for: "songs not by Joe Satriani but you could be one of many that thought they were"

lol there Clarky....And on the 7 little fingerings....I see what your saying :-)....I wasn't very good at math, but you are making very good sense!!
peter mulas: I know Paul uses Laney's...That's why I asked MATT: "Makes me wonder why Mr. VAI and Mr. Gilbert use them (Legacy) :-0...." Because Matt has had problems with all three of his Laney'....I'm guessing he bought them from the same store....That would explain alot......I love Legacy', and have not heard of problems with them....Matt was stating that he thinks they are the biggest pieces of crap out there....
AVARICE: Does that mean your keeping the original ;-)....
(you said you have a "copy" of SBM :-))
Peace all, /\/\ike

death cube - I spoke to the custom shop last Friday about my 7-string... apparently they used a sub-contractor to build the neck... and they are very unhappy with the result so they are going to sort it out...... so... no.. my baby is not ready yet... I said to the guys that given the amount of money I'm paying for this, I expect nothing less than a top notch instrument... don't rush it, don't cut corners..... they are replalcing the fingerboard and then taking the contractor to court over it...
JSC1 - if this system didn't work for you, how do you solve the problem of fingerings, positions, being in the right key etc... I'm interested to know ... basically, if someone else has another system then I'm always interested to look at the benefits and draw backs... never stop learning.......
tapper5 - once you've overcome the very basics... i.e. you can tune the thing, get your hands around a few chords, and a few basic scale shapes.... then start learning songs... you learn by example.... learn al the riffs first so don't get all hung up about the solos... just play all the riffs under it. This gets you moving in time with the band... timing and nice clear chord changes is the most important hurdle to over-come at this point.... in a band, even as the 'lead' player you only spend 5% to 10% of you time playing solos.... so the riffs come first... work hard on being in time with the band [being 'tight]... this is most important... if you are into rock / metal... a great place to learn simple riffs and rock solid timing is ACDC...
And like Phryg Dom says... try to find the start of my theory posts and follow it through.. there is some pretty usful stuff in there upon which we can build...
To help you find the 1st post, the start of my theory thing was on Sep 17th....
And most of all, practice is never a chore...enjoy your playing... when you've had enough just stop... never force it... don't fall out of love with the guitar because you tried too hard......
Stu - lol... there is a 'h'.... but only in German...lol...lol.
For Adun - you are refering to key signatures..... so on a score, you'll see a 'treble clef' [the funny curly thing on the left on a score] and immediately to the right of the clef you'll see a group of '#' or 'b' signs.... count them and you'll know the major key [if the piece is minor you'll know that too...]
ovation - when I get to the part about minors and modes... the math will become clear... then you'll see exactly how easy it is to unlock the entire neck with those 7 fingerings....
Avarice - jeez dude... where you been... this place is kinda quiet without you around... lol lol
