I just got my DiMarzio catalogue in the mail!! I'm gonna look through them and decide the best lineup! So far, I'm considering (bridge, mid, neck) Tone Zone, Fast Track 1 & Super Distortion. All high output pickups.
BTW, I had the best physics class today!! We were talking about sound waves, then I suggested that we plug my guitar into an oscilloscope and see how different effects change the wave patterns! It was SO COOL!!! My teacher then explained how distortion changes the sound of a guitar!

Hi everyone in T2J land, I would like to post some of my music & I was wondering if anyone out there had some advice on how to format it (wav or mp3), & is IUMA a good place to post. TO JOE - how do you feel about using a 7 string guitar, I just recently got my 1st 7 string & love it.
Later, Danny K

Akreepish - signs like Ib... IVb are not figured bass... as you point out 6 4, 6 3 etc are figured bass markings but you'd expect to see those below a bass note on a score to indicate to the player [usually an organist in a church] the content of the rest of the chord... I'll not really go into figured bass in detail in here as I'm not convinced that it'll be of great use to a 21st century shredder...lol
writing chords like 'G' and 'Gm' are perfectly well accepted as they are a standard representation of chord names... if there is a letter 'm' it means minor, if there is no 'm' it means major and there is no such marking as 'M'... some guitar mags have tried to apply their own standards to this kind of thing and have a lot to answer for as the 'theory' they pump out can at times be misleading or contrary to convention... like any other kind of musician, guitar players are not stupid.. so why do they need a different convention to everyone else? is that not an insult to a guitar players intelligence...... if you know the standards, then there is no need to write MIN and MAJ everywhere....
'x' alone = major chord, 'xm' = minor chord
in my next post I'll go through basic chord extensions and naming conventions
the intention of my theory posts is not to take everyone to the rocket science side of music.... I'm just trying to provide a nice solid foundation for the players in here so that they can understand how it works.. the basic nuts'n'bolt if you like... and if some want to 'head yonder' into the realms of 'total serialism' or 'klang faben melodie' etc... then they should have a solid platform from which to continue their delevelopment....
whojack - I actually find typing pretty tedious and don't enjoy it at all........ no diss taken # : )
Matt - I've seen this written as, xm add13, xm6, xm add6
My Nick - nice one bro....
Ovation - so you're looking after me and Satch's guitars.... now you have your hands full.... lol
phryg dom - ouch!!!!!!!!!! Lydian Chromatics??? do you know what you're in for here?? lol lol.. tricky stuff [so I've heard].. to be really honest, I know very little about this as it is really a jazzer thing [which is not my strongest area]... I do know that it is a very modern series of improvisational theories based around 9 or 10 [I think] pretty odd scales pioneered by a very well known [in jazz circles] composer / theorist [who's name write now escapes me].... there are books and books writen about this stuff.... to be honest I don't know enough detail about this to be a great help to you... maybe when I get some free time I'll take a look but it is not high on my list right now..... I do look at jazz from time to time [and enjoy it too] but I never devote huge amounts of time to it because it's not totally my thing....
kinger - you're perfectly welcome...

Clarky: I found out a little about it....
The Lydian Chromatic Concept establishes the second
degree of a Lydian scale as being the primary location for dominant seventh chords. So the scales will all have C as their second degree.
Bb Lydian (Bb, C, D, E, F, G, A, Bb)
Bb Lydian Augmented (Bb, C, D, E, F#, G, A, Bb)
Bb Lydian Diminished (Bb, C, Db, E, F, G, A, Bb)
Bb Auxiliary Diminished (Bb, C, Db, Eb, E, F#, G, A, Bb)
Bb Auxiliary Augmented (Bb, C, D, E, F#, G#, Bb)
It sounds really cool! But the book's really expensive :( I think I'll see if my local library can get a copy, and then maybe order one of the previous editions used Cheers, Dave PS It was George Russell :-)

Joe,
Am a new member, from India. Just love the way your guitar talks to the heart. Have a small request. Since you are an expert in making twists between the song that really, REALLY appeal, why dont you try a song just full of such twists, and name it TWISTS OF ECSTASY
see ya later

phryg dom - ah yes... Russell that's the guy... I hear that he is to Jazz improv as Steven Hawking is to physics... cutting edge, inovative forward thinker.....etc.. I think that there was a total of nine scales... I'll try to dig them up... maybe as a joint effort, we can try to track down some more info... internet, library, etc..... I know that it is way too big a thing for me to tackle alone right now purely because the time involved... ifnishing my album, an up coming tour with DC... etc... you've gone and got me all curious now though... lol... and that's dangerous... lol lol
My Nick - if I understand you post correctly, it seems that you're getting your head around this... or I'm totally confused and posting the wrong thing to the wrong person [which is also a pretty good possibility.. lol]

man, eric sardinas is cool.
I'm so excited about going to university. I really want to be challenged. Nothing that I have tried to learn academically has been a problem up to now, and I can't see anything coming up this year which is particularly going to change that. Maybe some Maths I guess.
But doing Music at university. Learning how to write for so many different instruments.... I can manage a band, or a piano and something, but even getting into duets, trios, quartets is mindboggling let alone a romantic symphony orchestra. Just started an A2 composition for flute and piano. I like it :)

local person - sounds fun... but when they give you the opening 4 bars of a piano score out of Mikro Kosmos [Bartok] and say... "write the next 'x number' of bars continuing the the style"... your head explodes...... lol..lol.. studying 'form' [especially Sonata form] is mega mega cool from the origins to a full blown 19th C Symph.. counter point and fugue writing is great fun [I really enjoyed that stuff..but then I'm a great fan of music within 1650 - 1880.....]... As a creative musician, the stuff I learned in my studies that has been of greatest use was how to mess with melody / chords / modulation / structure and orchestration...
