r6rocker / phryg dom - oh yes ... so true ... funny thing occured to me... I recall one time when I was in the Dojo when I was first learning Karate... I saw a black belt practicing a kata [set of moves] that was a white belts kata.... I asked my Sensei "why is he messing with the easy stuff... is he lazy or something".... My Sensei replied.. "look again... he does not execute that kata like a white belt does he"... I watched and then all became clear to me.... no matter how advanced you are, it is still a very good thing to go right back to the basics from time to time.... but each time you does this... you look at yourself with a resolution that previously did not exist... each time you make an improvement in the basics... that improvement propagates its way through to the advanced stuff..................
years later.. I screw my tnedons and miss out on a session..... one day I was day dreaming and for some reason I happened to get a flash back to this event in the Dojo....
all became even clearer.....
I applied this to my guitar playing
jsc1 - take your time, re-evaluate yourself... like me you learned the hard / painful way.... turn this into a victory... this could be a rebirth into a level you never realised existed within you.... learn from this... look at yourself... rebuild all that is wrong.... strengthen all that is good.... turn this around
Also, I've been into Beson for years... but his early stuff [70's] when he played more than he sang.... I used his scat technique when pictising scales and licks.... at first I just wanted to know how to do it.... the side effect is that I can now sing a lick and visualise the fingering.... now there is a massive aid to writing, learning .... such a great thing to be able to do... and it's not as hard as you'd think....
KhakiCoalition - thanx for the praise bro... makes me feal so very good.... cheers

jsc1- i have no problem with that, i have the problem with the actual technique ;) I was just saying singing is a very good way of learning tone recognition. If I hear a note or arpeggio or some music where I don't have a musical instrument on me, I can work out what pitch it is at by knowing where my vocal range starts and ends, and relating it to that (since i don't have perfect pitch, though I do have Psuedo-absolute pitch, meaning that certain tones I will relate straight to a note correctly.
Oten with stringed instrument players like us guitarists, we will be able to pick an e a d g b or e very easily. Play a song I know well in the wrong key and I can tell. But I can't just sing an F without thinking about it lots (and i won't always get it right)
On the other hand I have a throat infection at the moment, so singing isn't that much fun....

Plum Loco - w..w.w......wwwwhat? HAHA
Clarky - The sad thing is, I hurt my hands from lifting many heavy things at work. Had nothing to do with the picking arm really. I'm still pissed about it. Still need some healing time.
Megaboyd - Spider sense.... tingling. No, what?

Hi everyone... Since some people were talking about weird food combinations, I thought I'd mention something that I came across sometime last week. I was watching tv eating a cherry popsicle. I was thirsty after I finished it, so I drank a Mountain Dew. It was so good! I think it was the orange juice in the Mountain Dew that made the taste...LOL. Anyway, I've always wanted to try eating Cheez-Its in a bowl with milk like cereal. Weird?
Karthak - I'm sure more tour dates will be announced soon. Joe usually starts his tours on the west coast, so it makes sense for those dates to be announced first.
I am become Stu... ;-)

Cyberjoe, in your next post, start with when you open it and finally plug it in and get to play it.....I was just starting to salivate when you got to the opening it and peeking inside part, but then you had to go to work or whatever.
And then I read Austin's post about cheeze-its and milk and lost my appetite.....ha ha ha
I had a friend once who liked bologna and peanut butter sandwiches....gross!!!!

Hey, Joe! I'm checkin' in every day (if I can) looking for those 'Evening w/Joe' concert dates in NY/NJ! I was listening to Vai's "Living in an Ultra World" today again, and, apart from some songs I really love (like Great Balls of Gold!) I just kept thinking how much more inspiring your stuff is...at least to me. I read in an interview that you like to think about what styles you haven't played yet when you make a new record and experiment. I really enjoy the rock/latin fusion feel of Al Dimeola's 'Electric Rendezvous' and wondered if you ever considered some of that. I like complex music with many moods, tempos, etc. and I find much of that CD truly 'Electric'! The Spanish feel of the percussion and acoustic is awesome. You've already done some fun stuff with Banana Mango II that reminds me of a merengue (spelling?) rhythm...you know what I mean. Anyway...my song of the day...Hill Groove. It's funky, maybe a little jazzy (and I do like some jazz!) and is a definite lifter, which I could use today! Thanks!

Ovation1 : ni juu man en !!! wth ! that's quite expensive, but i saw a JS Y2K at 320 man yens here .... argh !
Typhoon left tokyo pretty fast ... yes, 60km/h, so it lost quite a bit of strength while it travelled on the land.
Last year's typhoons were much more impressive IMO.
