Phyg. Dom. - You've been a busy boy on here, are you up in Manchester today or have you had to go to work :-0 !

Clarky - (a few days late) Great story about the martial arts observations, i've taken a look at why i get pain and am experimenting with different guitar heights etc. Gotta tell ya (and no disrespect to martial artists, i appreciate the dedication required), the mental image i got from your story........... sat there pondering with a guitar, when a voice sounds in the room..........'use the force, luke' LMAO. Glad to see you had a blast at the Jemfest.

XCPX - cheap shot on the extra post front! ;-)

r6rocker LOL PhrygianDominant Damn you! You beat me to the 'when all this was fields' joke lol! I was reading about clarkys 'g everywhere' thing, but im not sure if i've got it right, i know where each of the 7 positons start but im not sure if i've got the fingering exactly correct, this may take a while to type out but i dunno any other way to explain lol, in 1st position does the exercise go: E(3rd fret) E(5thfret) E(7thfret), then, A(3rd fret) A(5thfret) A(7th fret), then, D(4th fret) D(5th fret) D (7th fret) and then, G(4th fret) G(5th fret) G(7th fret) then B(5th fret) B (7th fret) then E(5th fret) and then back down, note that i wrote the notes there for each string, not the actual note fretted, anyway is this correct? and then u simply get the 7 positions by starting from each following note in the scale (GABCDEF#) i hope i've been clear! any help will be greatly appreciated.....Joe Rules...

XCPX: I got the same thing, except on the B string I was playing 5 7 8 and then 5 and 7 on the E, cos Clarky's notes said you play three notes on each string except the top E. It sounds like I misunderstood and you got it right ;-)

Clarky!!: AWESOME MAN!! You got to meet Ricky and also jam together!! Thanks for giving a shout out from me, and it sounds like JemFest was a total success!! I'm sre you played great also dude....Any tunes from your site!?!? This should help spread the word of Clarky :-)....BTW, Goju-Ryu....Nice hard style....Many of the old (17/1800's) Masters that went to China to study Martial Arts returned to Okinawa to create their own styles...Thus, Karate was evolved into what it is today....Before WWII, Mainland (Japan) Japanese soldiers would come down to Okinawa and forbid the locals from practicing the Art....It was then "secretly" studied through Eisa Dance which is performed in the streets and at Festivals....The Art was hidden (and also studied descretely) in these dances unbeknownst to the Japanese soldiers...... Incredible....The History of Karate....(Sorry for my babbling, but Guitar talk and Karate get me going!!)

Michelle: Gotta have "Bells of Lal 2" in there!! "Warm Regards" or "Love Thing" would be a great closer....Also, about the Kirk Hammett thingy......I've had some mentally challenged people (because they actually believe this) say that Kirk is waaaaay better than JOE....Then I put in "CP" at work, and I get the Damn! Who is this, LOL!!!!

Happy 200th PhrygianDominant!! You've almost got a years worth of posts, lol, keep up the great work!! You've got a great site and great tunes also, BTW!!~~~~

jblaze1: LMAO dude!!....And great answer Michelle ;-)

r6rocker: lol, and I had to shovel my way out of the house just to walk down the front steps so I could walk to school 20 miles/40?clicks. away!! lol....

I gotta figure out XCrystal PlanetX' formula....sounds right....

Peace all, /\/\ike

Hey guys, take a lookie at this:

So between each set of notes ( except between E-F and B-C ) there will be a sharp/flat note. (e.g. the note between F and G is F# or Gb, they are the exact same note just with a different name)

I pasted this from www.cyberfret.com on the section under scales, i quote 'they are the exact same note' is this correct or are they talking bull?.....Joe Rules....

MICHELLE - 'Frankenstien' - great track and i'd far rather watch lasers while listening to it than the DVD i've got with EW and Rick Derringer in nice satin trouser suits! ;-)

XCPX - Nice to see that you are getting into it now, didn't i tell ya that you'd rock one day. Is your local guitar shop GTR or is there another one around here that i don't know about. btw i miss hear'say as well (NOT!!!!!)

PHRYG DOM - Damn it dude, if i don't get some more work soon i'm going to come down to 'the smoke' and sign on with you. ;-)

r6rocker Yeahh!! GTR is my local shop! thats where i talked about trying out that marshall avt150 head lol. Theres a good chance that i might be doing my work experience at gtr guitars towards the end of january next year so if you see a fella with spiky hair and a confused look on his face (from modes doubtably) that'll be me! lol, anyway back to figuring out the wonderful and annyoing word of scales.....Joe Rules...

XCPX - Dude, don't knock yourself out about the #/b thing, they are 'effectively' the same pitch, but they are called by a different name depending what context they are used in. When you write a scale you have to use every note once, using the TTSTTTS rule. If you write out your scales you will see what i mean (and i'm no expert!) for example in the key of C# (i.e. starting on a C#) you have C#D#E#F#G#A#B#C#, now i'm with you E# is the same pitch as F and B# is the same pitch as C but then you would have F and F# and C and C# in the same scale and how confusing would that be ? It's all about context, remember each letter has to be used once, when you've got your scales written out you will see how it works and then just take it as one of the rules. I hope this makes sense otherwise Phryg. Dom. will be kicking my ass for not paying more attention!

lol@r6rocker, PhrygianDominant is a big softy really lol. I've just spent a while with the TTSTTTS rule and had a few practice goes at making scales etc and its quite easy and i seem to be getting the hang of it. There's still a lot of things that im not exactly sure of but im sure they'll get ironed out eventually, im gonna keep at it, i've just discovered how easy it is to find notes on the neck too! lol so im quite pleased with myself. Hey maybe i'll see you in GTR sometime if i do eventually get to do my work experience there! Hehe its gonna be hard to try and keep my hands off the Ibanez JEM555 they have there lol. Anyway, back off to scale work i go.........Joe Rules....

XCPX - I think that you have already done G anywhere ? If thats the case you should have 7 'shapes' - one for each starting point ? Move these shapes up two frets (from E third fret to E fifth fret and you will be starting on an A instead of a G) You may have to work out how the open strings come into play for the last position, but you should do this for all scales - it makes them more 'user friendly'. HOWEVER, think about the notes that you are playing, use the shapes to find the notes in this instance then make sure that the notes you are playing are the ones in the scale.

/\/\ike: thanks man. It's a shame I've had to put a fee on the CD but I'm really getting low on cash being out of work etc. Thanks for the comments :-)

R6R: It sounds like you *have* been paying attention, and that minor mode stuff in your inbox should keep you out of trouble for a while!! heh heh >:-D

XCPX: Sounds like you're getting the hang of it. Stick with it. One thing you might want to combine with your X Anywhere work is to work out where all the notes in your chosen scale are on one string and then only play that string. Do that for a while then change string. Once you've done all six, play two at a time, then three, etc. Before you know you'll be all over the place and still in key :-)

Later all, Dave

For Adun- "I am become death" is a quote from the Tibetan Book of the Dead. The guy who invented the atom bomb quoted that the first time he saw the bomb tested. "I am become death--the destroyer of worlds"
