XCPX: does it have to be an amp? Did you see my post about the Behringer V-Amp2? Feel free to spread your answer over several posts ;-)

death cube k: see above ;-) I hook it straight into the mixer & computer. It's an amazing piece of kit. I don't play live, so it suits me just fine, and a cheap PA (or the house PA) would let me play live with full control over my sound :-)

Invigor: yeah, aren't they the coolest? I have quite a bit of Behringer kit here, and for the price the quality is outstanding!!! I used to have my studio go through a pair of ridiculously expensive (but on long term loan to me) Meridian speakers, and man what a sound!!!!! Everything on my CD (apart from the acoustic) went through that baby. You can have it, but you'd have to pry it from my cold dead fingers first ;-)

anibur, unfortunately, when I say Joe Satriani most ppl. say "who?", so when I say it and somebody says "yeah, I've heard of him" I get happy :) I think alot of ppl. have heard his music but don't know who the artist is. I get strange looks sometimes when I wear my Satch shirts, especially the newest S.B.M. shirt. I think at first glance, ppl. think I'm wearing a unibomber shirt. Maybe somebody else can explain better who he is. Ted Kazinski (I'm probably way off) who mailed package bombs. Not a nice guy - but we all know Joe is nothing like him (except they both wear hoodys -hooded sweatshirts- & they pee standing up). I've run into a few ppl. who remember Joe from the 80's, but didn't know he was still putting out music. HA! Not only is he putting it out, he's killin' it!! (that's a good thing).

JBlaze, my Husband 1.0 isn't running today. NASCAR 4.0 & NFL 5.0 have shut him down for the day. He's in Sleeper Mode. lol! I think I'll order Take-Out 1.0 and see if I can get the system running again :)

I think amp model direct line recording units (i.e. POD and V-amp) are really cool for the everyday musician (like me!) who probably cannot afford to spend 30k on a decent pro tools studio...or even enough to spend to record in one...I do not like the live sound of them though! :)

Matt: interesting observation. Like I said, I don't play live so I can't comment on that part, but i *do* know that no amount of ProTools (or similar) equipment will get you a good guitar sound - ProTools is a recording device / system, nothing more nothing less. OK plugins are available all over the place, but more often than not they're mastering plugins, and the amp sims suck big time. If you put crap in, you'll get crap out. All they do is record it. Granted sticking a decent mike in front of a decent amp, fired by a decent player & a decent guitar is still arguably the best way to the coolest recorded sounds, but for me (and you!) amp sims rule!!!!

EDIT - Mr Nick: that's the one! Same string same fret, but in the context different note. Like if you go shopping in your Porsche 911 it's an A to B machine. If you go cruising for birds on a Friday night in it it's a trapping / copping utility ;-) Sorry for the blatant sexism. I don't support such behaviour, I was just trying to support an idea ;-)

well matt you can always try cubase. I bought my version at a comp convention for about 200$ And about These Recording software, you just have to know how to tweek the sounds. So yes if you just record the sound and put plug ins on it,it will sound plain. But you can tweek it by putting some ambiance and adding other sounds on left and right field just slightly off set from the center. Sound recording is a complicated art so i would recommend taking some corses at school.

matt king try cubase sx it is basically nuendo it rocks, i like cubase better than protools, the transport is easier to use, also amplitube is a great amp sim plug in (sounds like real tubes(not really but closer than amp farm))

Mr Nick: you got it right when you said "same pitch..different name...Gb=F#". Pick 6th fret D string as your chosen Gb/F#. There are no flat notes in A Major, but 6th fret D string is there - as the 6th degree. It must be something sharp (there are no flats in A), and so it's G#. But if you were in Ab Major that note is there too! If you started on the 6th string it would be the 1st octave = Ab. There are no sharps in Ab, so it must be Ab (ie the root). IOW, it's the same pitch (in all its octaves) = same string, same fret, but, depending what key you're in, its place serves a completey different purpose.

HTH matey! now for some sleep.......

Not of this Earth, amazing.

Rubina, is there any better guitar solo? I've never heard one with so much depth. It's the best solo i've ever heard. Makes you wonder what practicing all the technique and fast playing is for.

'Feeling' The greatest word for the greatest solo.

I just bought a DVD player, finally. The first DVD I purchased? Satriani Live in San Francisco, of course!! Superb!! The family always gets glued to their chairs when it's playing. It's so nice to be able to see the close up shots of Joe & Stu working their magic. However, I also want to say that Strange Beautiful Music is not my favorite Satriani CD. It's too mellow. PLEASE go back to Crystal Planet-type playing!! (Sorry!!)
