Oh, and, Pete Mulas,

This guy is not only among my top 5 favourite guitarists list, but is also, probably the most intelligent person I know.

2k had some priority issues too, small things would cause winamp to skip, etc. haven't skipped at all in xp. :) I'm happy with xp..i just need a new cpu, this p3 ain't cuttin it anymore

That was discussed a coupla weeks ago. You won't find sharps and flats in the same key. F# and Gb are the same pitch not the same note.

If your "normal" third is say G# and you need to flatten it, it'll become G, and if your "normal" 6th is E and you need to flatten it, it'll become Eb.

Go back a bit to the conversation Clarky and Mr Nick had, I reckon you'll get your head round it soon enough. If not, shout again!! Good luck.

EDIT: I found it (finally!). Have a look at posts from Sep 25 onwards. Later!

Ovation - I studied Goju Ryu [from Okinawa] and Shotokan... I got to have a beer with Ricky Garcia at Jemfest UK.... said hi from you.... what a real nice guy... and jeez what a player... great note selection, control, technique, feal, style..... a real joy to see and hear him play..... we got to play together a little to in the jam session.... very cool
Ozzy - the key of G major contains a scale called G major. Each one of the notes of G major is the tonic of a chord that is built out of the notes that make up the G major scale. Did you miss some of the earlier theory posse posts? if so, go back to Sep 17th where they start and try to follow the the thread.... if you get stuck shout....
phryg dom - we all had a ball at the fest..... great day...
XCrystal - the theory posse willl be covering all of the modal in detail [and how to do the calculations - getting them on the neck in all keys etc].... I just have to cover one or two things before hand.... i.e. if you don't get your head around the minor - major key relationship then you'll struggle getting your head around modes..... we'll get there pretty soon...
Kinger - very good for you bro.... did you get all 7 fingerings down......???? if so... you've been working real hard.... so before you start playing.... do G-everywhere three times... deadslow, moderate, as quickly as you can without sounding bad...... nice little warm up.... really listen to yourself, look closely at your hands too.... great stuff

this is really funny.......switching channels..i stumbled upon this - the week music died, a hear'say tribute.. thats got to be joke of the day..lol music was already dead wheb they thought up flop idol...lol

Happy Sunday everyone!

I had a surreal dream last night, my first "Satch" dream. I was at a concert with my family, we were sitting in the nosebleed section. Actually, I was sitting with a friend whom I can't identify, and my family was a few seats over. I did'nt know who the band was, until I looked over at my family. And there was Joe playing right in front of my mom and dad and brother and sister. I ran over and joined them, all of a sudden, Joe stopped playing in the middle of the song, reached over my family, shook my hand and said "hey Dave, how ya doin'? It was awesome and it seemed so real (as most dreams do). Another funny thing was that my head was shaved bald...lol...I could'nt see myself, but I knew I did'nt have any hair. As with all dreams, it ended. But mine ended with my daughter waking me up at 6:30am shaking a box of Fruit Loops in my face yelling "wake up dad, I'm hungry" :)

Joe, you have invaded my sub-conscious mind. I would normally say "get out of my head", but you can stay as long as you like. No arguments here.......Peace, Dave

LMAO! Hey Dave, wouldn't it have been great if it was JOE shaking a box of Fruit Loops in your face at 6:30 am and yelling "wake up Dave, I'm hungry!" LOL!!

I took my kids and 2 of my daughters friends to see a laser show last night. It was "rock" music. Hendrix, Zeppelin, The Beatles, P. Floyd...anyways, at the end of the show, the guy said if we had any suggestions for another show or any songs we would like to hear, we should let him know. I HAD to go over and talk to him. I asked him if he ever heard Joe Satriani and he said YES! 2 points for him! I asked him if he could put together a show with the likes of Satriani, Vai, J. Beck, Dream Theater - like an instrumental show. He said he might be able to do that, then he said "you mean like a slow, mellow show." NOOO, I mean like a Devils Slide, The Dance Of Eternity rip your face off show! lol! I think I would have to put together a setlist or something for the guy so he knows what I mean. I sat there the whole time thinking how cool those 2 songs would be set to laser. I doubt if the guy took me all that seriously (they do what they want anyway), but I think I might try to find an email address and send a list his way. He said new shows would start in January, and wouldn't it be cool if even one Satch song made the list!

We ARE Totally Satchurated!!

edit: Anybody have suggestions for a laser show? Help me out. It can only be about an hour long. I'm thinking I could end the list woth Frankenstein by the Edgar Winter Group :)

Clarky: good to hear you had a good time! Hey earlier I tried your G everywhere thing, and was there a typo re: the top E? If I play three notes a string up to the B, the highest note I play on the B is G, not F#, and so for the turnaround I play A and B, not G and A. :-/

XCrystalPlanetX and Mr Nick: argh! I don't think you'll be mentally scarred for life if you see them as the same note, but (man this is hard)...
in the key of F there are no sharp notes and one flat note - Bb. There are no sharps in F Major so it has to be a Bb.
Let's use third fret G string for this note (yes I know there are others!)
Now then, this pitch also appears in (amongst others) the F# major scale as the 3rd degree. But now it's an A# because there are no flattened notes in F# Major. Same pitch, different name.
Is that easier? Or worse? :-(

EDIT: Oh yeah! Thanks JB!!! :-D

clarky i have got the first three down fairly comfortably, but the others need a little work still. but i can go 1st pos - 2nd pos - 3rd and back again without to much trouble now.

the whole thing just once is an exercise in itself, but i will take your advice: slow and steady to start

like i said... chuffed... thanks teach...

cheers...

Michelle, Joe would get breakfast in bed at my house....lol...but I doubt he would want to see my ugly mug first thing in the morning :) After a couple of cups of coffee maybe...

Oh yeah, I'm not sure what song was being played in my dream, but I'm positive it was in the key of G. I want to say it was "Rubina", but I'm not entirely sure.
