njbeast...don't worry, hehehe...i am always too modest about myself, hehehe....i never like copying satch or whatever other player...i am a freak about personal styles, i will stand out some day with my own style....i am always more interested in people who try to come out with their own style, in stead of people who only copy copy copy and try to show how good they are, while they just play someone else's style.............that book i allready own, along with other tab books.....i can play, don't worry....i am just never satisfied enough.....that's a good thing, makes me practise more...
but thanks for your concern anyway, heheehe...
wish my working day was over.....want to play my js1000wh now.....

Hey everyone! Just thought of an interesting question today. What makes a handfull of guitar players, namely Petrucci and Malmsteen be able to play faster than anyone, even players like Satch, Vai, and Eric Johnson don't pick as fast as Petrucci (even though they practice just as hard), they mainly rely on legato to pull off speed. Do you think genetics, how loose your hand muscles/tendons are determines how fast you can pick to some degree?

wow....even though I am new to the site, I have to say it is pretty awesome. I've been a fan for a long time but sadly have only seen Joe live once (Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC) To date it was the best show I have EVER seen.

OCPS:I don't think you are Born with speed persay.Speed takes alot of work.Anybody can be fast with enough practice.Natural born Talent,Yes!...Maybe some people can think faster than others. There is a need to anticapate your next move.I have that problem.I can play pretty damn fast but my noggin can't keep up with my finger speed & changes. No,I am not saying I am faster than anybody else so nobody get any ideas...lol...but accuracy is very important along with your speed.Petrucci has a "Rock Discipline " video.Check it out.He explaines how both can be achieved.Well, thats my Nickels worth....inflation you know?!.......lol
Have a nice day everyone!:)

iblaze1------- you are so right good comments, i would say timeing and accuracy are the 2 most inportant things to achive, like you say speed develops over time.
Cheers

Hi everyone. Had a few things to do recently, sorry if I don't reply to anything you asked me - I'm not ignoring you, honest! Martina: there's something you can get at the post office called an International Reply Coupon. You send that to Joe's management and it's prepaid to get back to you. r6r: I'm here, been busy. Nothing exciting, but the doctor's yesterday was life-changing! I'll probably email you tomorrow. Clarky: If I play G on the bottom E, D on the A and A on the D, is that an add 9 or a sus2? I've seen it described as both - what's your take?
Later everyone, Dave

OCPS470 - developing speed & dexterity like John Petrucci's can be achieved with a metronome & alot of woodshedding. I've be through his rock disipline lesson book & have benifitted greatly. If you have power tab editor software I can send some lessons that I use for my students. A warning as stated by Paul Gilbert on studying this type of playing, it will ruin your blues/rock playing.
visitdanny k to check out some of my demos. I'm currently recording new stuff + revamping changes & shazam.
Talk to you later Danny K

Yo Joe,
Sorry to hear about pearly, whoever nicked it needs locking up. Anyway I play guitar and I've got a Washburn MG34. I'm thinking of getting some kind of Digitech Multi FX unit but I don't know which one to get, if you have any advice on the best one to get I'd be more than happy if you could post back.
Cheers 'n' Keep Rockin'
