In the United States, at the age of 18 a person can go to war and fight for AND possibly die for their country, but that same person in Medina, MN can't get in to see Joe Satriani play his guitar.

21+ shows suck for the kids who are 17 & under with adult supervision, but they REALLY suck for the kids who are between 18 & 20!! These are the same kids who, when arrested on a misdemeanor charge, can be put in jail with hardened criminals ~ but they can't get into a show and see Joe Satriani play his guitar. Go to war ~ go to jail ~ but CAN'T go to see Joe. It boggles my mind.

BIZARRE, isn't it?

I know Joe & the band don't like 21+ shows, but why do they come up every tour? I guess Joe does what he can to stay out of these places, but sometimes it's not in his control, and that sucks too!

Those shows are 21 and over because the venues believe they will make more money selling booze.....it's a shame.

js clone 1yes the dreaded string breakage issue!! mine still break strings, but less than before i had it set up, but still more the a trs lo-pro, or a floyd its weird but oh well. the bsb sounds diffrent than a dbk but they are both cool, the fp was just to feminine for me,lol. yep i understand. i am playing out tomorrow night and will be using the bsb and my les paul as aback up in case i break a string on the jem....oh well it will be fun.take it easy

Since we're takin' bout wood/pickup combos I'll give my two cents. I think the best combo is mohog body, maple neck/rosewood fingerboard, dimarzio pu's (Air norton in the neck, Air zone in the bridge). Of couse you can't get any mohog guitar. The shape of a mohog body seems to make a HUGE difference (Gibson SG's sound like nasal p.o.s. while Ibanez S series sound round and warm). This combo has given me a great range of sound, I highly recommend those pickups, the Airzone is the most fluid (with definition) lead bridge pick up available, and the Air norton is great for speed picking(ala Petrucci) and is also very bluesy with lower gain. What do you guys think of neck through body construction? I've hated any neck through guitar I've heard. They all sound really shrill and translate way too much finger noise to the amp. I think bolt on necks in combo with a good sustaining body always sound the best.

ocps470 as for the sg being nasal, i dont think angus young sounds nasal, i dont think tony iommi sounds nasal.i dont think max calvera sounds nasal(i know he plays an esp , but it is still an sg shape and mahog) my favorite wood has been basswood even over mahog. i like my basswood guitars over the alder, mahog, maple,plywood..........oh wait plywood is not a tone wood, haha. it all comes down to personal preference. here is a new question..... how much does the wood contribute to the overall sound, compared to pickups is the wood even a factor with some pick ups, ie emg.lace.seymour duncan.dimarzio, is most of the tone from the wood or the pick ups? as for the neck thru i am not a huge fan but theRGT3120 is pretty damn cool!!!! just my thoughts

I just heard that Jam Master Jay (of Run D.M.C.) was murdered today...shot in the head. I know most people here don't like rap (I can't stand most of it myself), but Run D.M.C. were actually pretty cool. I'm a huge Aerosmith fan, as most people here know, and Run D.M.C.'s remake of Walk This Way in 1986 helped Aerosmith get back into the spotlight. This really sucks.

Evil E - Yes, those are the shades that Joe was wearing.

michelle - Don't forget the LA and LV House Of Blues shows...they're 21+ as well. Blah...

Although I don't have quite so much experience with woods and stuff for guitars, Coco Bolo tends to be a fantastic wood for basses,
I would assume that carries over into the realm of guitars...

MICHELLE- i agree 100000%, the genius of joe satriani should not be exclusive to those being 21+ only....everyone should be able to experience joe live no matter the age, if i was joe i would mandate that all of my shows be all ages....if it's an alcohol serving venue i would say dont serve alcohol! sure some alcohol dependant drunks would be pissed, but i think the benefits outweigh the drunks when a 10 year old kid walks away from a satriani show with a whole new inspiration.....the greatest gift is the gift of music, joe has this gift...and he gives it in every show.

ETHN- he broke the straps cause he was launching the guitar around his neck like a helicopter blade....those cheap nylon straps don't hold up well to centrifical force.

Ya yo-I know. It's still pretty gnarly,Ive never broken a strap.

He does break a ton of strings. Most will say because of his whammy abuse, but he usually breaks one on the carvin acoustic too.Well,He did on a couple of recordings I have heard him on,and the show I saw him.(ultra zone,99)

naso - I think I have a pretty good / interesting dialogue going with some of the muso's in here.. If I start throttling the post and the content then I may not be able to help these folks out so effectively... if you don't like the theory posts then don't read them... I always tag them 'theory posse' so that the uninterested majority can instantly identify it and skip over... you can do the same... no big deal....
jsc - thanx for the support.. I agree with you completely.. doing this in 'public' is much better because on occasion points are raised [as you did with suspension] which leads to further clarification - to the greater benefit of all interested parties... on your basswood / PAF thing - this is the combination I have on my RG and I quite like it..... although from a tone point of view I do prefer my Strat - Ash body / Seymore Duncan Hotrails [punchy / full-bodied and bags of sustain]
ethn - I agree with your sentiment - appart from me ruling... lol lol
phryd 3 - Friday Night in SF is just increadable... a 'must have' in the CD collection..
Stu Clone - absolutely... and you never really appreciate just how amazing these composers are until you disect their work... for Sonata form, orchestration and just general all-over coolness look at the 1st movement of Schuberts unfinished Symph in Bm - may take is that he didn't finish it because he thought "man this is awesome... where do I go from here...."... lol
tapper - thanx bro... I'll keep postin' for y'all
phryg dom - do Dyson make trems - did Leo Fender design hoovers.... well.. I guess so... lol lol
Michelle - that must mean that the US gov would rather see folks die young than go to a Satch gig....

About Vai and his guitar stunts. Uh, well, he did that in the Astoria on December the 6th last year! He also played behind his head, with his teeth and lots of cool music. But he still and never will be able to match the axe madness of Satch. Vai's also releasing the DVD that he filmed in London where I went to see him soon! I'll be the first one in the que for that one. Can't wait. I think that Joe should make live albums for every tour. I would if I was as good as him! Here are my top five favourite axe slingers:-

1. Joe Satriani 2. Steve Vai 3. Eddie Van Halen 4. Yngwie Malmsteen 5. Marty Friedman

Oh yeah, and what's happened to Jonathan Mover in the world of music?

Send Joe your top five guitarists!

TheLocalPerson : Indeed. but France is not the original producer of that kind of hard cheese. In France, mimolette, despite its french sounding name, is considered and regarded as a dutch cheese; same as edam and gouda. Btw, I'm French.

No cheese war.... peace
