LegolasfromMirkwood is such a cool name. What about FrodofromtheShire? Or GandalffromValinor? Ah, maybe not. By the way, on the Satch/Vai tribute album, the plyers are spot on. The best track has to be George Lynch's version of "Shy Boy". He was and probably still is a monster player. Great vibrato and picking technique. I bought it 6 months ago. Some time in April. Great record. Are any Satch fanatics any Lord of the Rings fanatics like LegolasfromMirkwood and me? The film f&£king kicks @ss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just been listening to Slayer's "Decade of Aggression" album. Kerry King and Jeff Hannemann are a master line up. Can't believe that it's nearly five years since Marty Friedman left Megadeth.

Dragonchild: The other white meat!!! How about this one:

Every morning Michael Jackson picks his nose...

and in the afternoon he gets it fitted.

McDave: Aye, what about the Matt Clones? What about Matt not Stu? After all, Matt has recorded more CDs with Satch than Stu has. (The Extremist & SBM vs Crystal Planet). Obviously I'm not talking about cameos or live performances, considering I've never been to one...

Clarky: gotcha, but what is the purpose of such a (seemingly) stupid chord? You don't have to answer that if you don't want.

Well guys, gotta go. I've got an exam in 2 hours (Saturday arvo - what is the deal?!?)

BEN

LegolasFromMirkwood I am a fan of both the great Joe Satriani and Lord of the Rings - I read the book a couple years ago before I found out that it was going to be a movie. Did you know that Middle-Earth is a REAL PLACE? Tolkien based it on an area he grew up near somewhere in England - I forgot exactly where. Just a little bit of information for you! SATCH ROCKS!

Joe, I am a young guitarist set to become something, I believe. I can't exactly see how one attains virtuoso status. I have enough money to pursue guitar to a good extent, but there's only so far that I can go that way. Do you have any suggestions as to how I may be able to get into Berkley School of Music in Boston or somewhere else I can learn the technical elements of the guitar as well as the modern approaches people are taking to record et cetra given my limited financial background and my isolation in the mountains of Colorado. The whole process seems quite mind boggling right now, and I can't see how it's going to work, but I'm putting very many hours into it. There is nowere to get professional lessons, so I've spent many hours basically just playing. I need the fundamentals to even consider becoming as they say (about you) a virtuoso or even a mediocre musician. Any suggestions that you may have would be appreciated as I am going into this heart and soul. Thanks

To all the loyal Satriani fans on this board, sorry about this. It's been a late night of looking around the internet for options, and asking questions. I may be completely off base asking this question here, but It's my only chance.

Get a Loaf - Yes! That is one of the best songs I have ever heard in my life. (Thinking of You)

Absolutely breathtaking. And the solo........... P-E-R-F-E-C-T

Fretboard Lighter - Sure Malmsteen practiced but he's a B.S. guitarist. It was cool in the 80's when he released the revolutionary, Alchemy full shred album but every album is the same B.S. Malmsteen just isn't versatile at all. His music lacks depth.

OCPS470 - Every string change or broken string, I sand and buff my saddles. Still break.

Fretboard / Legolas - Greatest movie I have ever seen. Tolkien is a genius and Peter Jackson was brilliant in the recreation. There's nothing like reading a book and envisioning it in your head, then seeing it with your eyes on a screen. It's breathtaking, it really really is.

Ya Yo - That's a stupid thing to say man. First of all, there's 3 Lord of the Ring books: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, The Return of the King. Watching the movie was like reading the first book only.

There are many little things in the movie that couldn't be explained in words but have to be looked out for carefully. It would probably explain a lot to you. I saw the movie 4 times in theaters alone. 3 times on video. I find something new everytime.

Tapper5 - My hands are to the point where I can play for about 3 - 4 hours every second. It's not as much as i'd like but it's a start. I took the time to learn both versions of Hordes of Locusts (NOTE, Dreaming #11) by ear. I got them both and am running through them constantly plus the set i'm playing at my school's xmas assembly come december.

Death Cube - So on average, after setting up your edge (I assume sanding the saddles), what's your string breakage like on regular practice hours daily?

js clone 1 my edge , i had it set up and saddles smoothed out, then tilted as all edges are susposed to. yeah its weird but the edge sits at a lsay 15% angle from the top because of how the edge tapers ...i am not explaining this well. on an average now i can go all the way between string changes with out breaking a string(3 weeks if no gigs,on the day of for gigs, and after the gigs)so not a whole lot. it is good to hear that your hand is doing better!!!!!!!! video tape locust so ican see it!

Death Cube - About 3 weeks, sounds about right. To me, ideally it should be, with whammy, a full month. You want me to video locusts before my show you mean?
