Hey everyone. Graduated from college on Friday with a degree in Information Systems! My 'rents got me a new Ibanez RG420gx as a gift. :)
It is my first experience with a floating tremolo. And it is a bit frustrating. I'm looking for a bit of guidance.
It is only a few days old. But whenever I go way down on it or way up on it, it'll throw my guitar (specifically the g and b strings) out of tune. However, if I go way down then go way up then wiggle it around a bit, it'll be straight in tune.
It's almost like the trem isn't returning to the starting position or something. Could this be the case since it is only a few days old (less than a week)?
Thanks,
-MS

Please come to New Orleans, LA. Joe, you know you have a strong crowd here. I have never seen the House of Blues so packed as it was the last time you came around. Take care.

Matt Selph:
That could be caused by blunt knife-edges... those are the little rectangular bits of metal on either side of the trem... the have those little post things that they pivot on... If your knife edges or blunt... or more commonly, just one side is, it could mean you have to replace the whole thing... get it into a guitar repair shop and get them to check it out... if they say it needs replacing, get em to stick an Ibanez Edge/lo-pro edge trem in instead, as on the 470's its the lo-trs trem which is made out of di-cast parts as opposed to milled parts...
If you want to check the knife edges yourself, email me and Ill guide ya thru the process... its quite simple really :D

Silmarien: He mostly says 'nej, nu jävlar' och 'vad fan', which is not such bad language in Swedish, it's more the tone he uses... LOL I hope you'll enjoy your stay at home!
Invigor: Thanks for posting that link to the Vai-Furtado duet, I've been wanting to see it since I read about it.

Extremista,
Stu usually uses his four string red-sparkle bass, Mel...
His bases on LISF:
Mel, his main bass...
Obi, the black bass...
Chester, the five string (he doesn't like the spacing on most fives, which is why he doesn't use them much...)
Fred, the fretless (on Rubina)...
And I think the white one he uses is Bonehead... not sure about that one, though...
And lucky me, I can tell you from personal experience... Mel is a great bass (Stu actually let me play Mel at the lesson!!!!!)
Though he doesn't use fives much, Stu has hipshots on Obi and Mel... He uses the hipshot some on Crystal Planet, but not a whole lot through the rest of the DVD... on Friends I think -- that's about it.

Hi, Joe! I was Christmas shopping and stumbled on the video of the making of the "Joe Satriani" CD - OBVIOUSLY I grabbed it! I have one question...after all that PAIN, did "Luminous" come out the way YOU wanted it in the end?? You look pretty frustrated with some of the takes and I was thinking how hard that must be to have a vision in your head of what you created and have no one else be "getting it"! Especially when that vision revolves around a mood or feeling you're trying to convey! I think I'd have a meltdown explaining that. In my world, if you have an idea, you can draw it on the computer and show everyone exactly what you want to create (although others are not always happy with it!), but how do you manage that. Seemed like the band was really excellent but accustomed to a totally different style or something. If it's any comfort, Luminous is one of my fave tunes because it's so crazy! That whole CD rules and it's neat to see how it had to evolve! Cool!

JS Clone 1 - Happy 500!
Stu Clone - According to the Guitar.com video interview thing that Stu did during the EOC tour, the white bass is named Whitey. Bonehead does sound like a cooler name, though, so maybe he renamed it recently.

Joe you're my favorite guitar player of all time!.. The San Francisco DVD is my favorite concert DVD too. You guys did an awesome job. I wanted to go to your show at the HOB in Hollywood, but some things came up. I think I'm going to go to both your shows at the Fillmore...that way I can experience the show with 2 different groups of my friends. I've read some articles and watched some shows that have Joe's effects listed, but I was wondering if there was anyone of you guys that has a complete list of his stage rig? It would be greatly appreciated...thanks a lot!

Oh Yeah...who thinks Joe should do the soundtrack for the new Silver Surfer movie? At least if not a new cd take some songs from "SWTA". Of course I don't really know when it's coming out or even if it's been started. Later

Stu not Boo,
Yeah, that's probably it... I think bonehead is actually red (non-sparkle) if I'm remembering correctly...
And speaking of "whitey"...
At the lesson, we were playing through scales on a metronome, so of course, it didn't take long before both he and I were doing our own personal versions of "The Stu."
The Stu - of course - is:
Left foot = 1 & 3
Right foot = 2 & 4
Head = Up on the downbeats, and down on the upbeats...
So, anyway, I'm doing the head DOWN on downbeats... Stu takes one look at me, and says, "man, Graham, you're such a white boy!"
Ahhh... good times.

Stu Clone, it sounds like your both having a great time during your lessons. lol! Tell Stu he should bring his purple self back here to T2J and say hi to all of us :)
PeanutLover, that's a fantastic video, isn't it? It gives us a glimpse of what it takes to get a song on a record. LFG is also one of my favorite songs, and Joe's self-titled cd is my favorite Satch cd. Good stuff!!
HI JOE! LOVE YA!!
