Merry Christmas again! Woah! I can't believe the temperature dropped by 10 degrees celcius over night! It's crazy!
chrisb14: Yes, I am here to help out on your whammy bar problems! The JS100 uses a Lo-Trs II trem, right? Well, here's how u tighten the arm so it doesn't swing like crazy: Turn the 'arm torque adjustment' nut 1-2 turns clockwise. There you go! Have fun!

Ovation, that was me saying that,my cousin was just saying thanks for saying hi,lol.

Phrygian dom-Economy picking isn't exactly sweeping, they are NOT the same thing.Sweeping is referring to using the same direction of attack for every note.(Like a sweep arpeggio)

Economy is about the odd-even rule.odd number of notes per string until you want to change direction, then it has to be even number.I.e- E 8 10 12 / A 8 10 12 then to change direction D 8 10 and then back to odd.

The economy is in reference to the number of pick strokes you save on the same licks you can alternate pick.

In all actuality, economy picking is a combination of Sweeping and Alternate picking.

I know you know the difference between the two, phrygdom,I just think the unitiated will be confused.

But they are not technically called the same thing(at least not by any exponents of the Technique that I can think of,Gambale for instance.)

PhryDom - hehehe... sadd-o! . Thanks for the clarification anyway :)

It is stu... thanks for the recommendation- I ended up ordering metropolis 2000 scenes from new york dvd. i thought it would be great to see them playing, and i saw it pretty cheap :) And it's pretty much the same as that boxed set but with videos, and an audio commentary but minus some tracks like acid rain... am i right? Oh well, should be awesome whatever :)

Matt King - Of course I would definitely record with that kind of equipment if I only had the money. Direct recording is just a lot cheaper way to record for a home musician like me...

So, I listened to your songs.

Your music is very innovative, I mean I always get furstrated when I can't come up with any new chord progressions, melodies etc. You seem to have no problem with that :)
I liked especially the songs "Days Gone Bye" and "Celestial Love Song". The harmony and the relaxing groove just suck you in, you know :)
I really like your guitar tone(although on "A Walk Amongst the Stars" it's maybe too "Marshall-ish" for me), and your technique is also very good. A lot of Satriani's influence can be heard in your playing, dunno whether it's a good or bad thing, at least it sounds great!
Your music is really great, I hope I'll someday reach that level too. You also have a really great band behind you! So, Keep on rocking, dude!

BTW I'd like to know what effects you used to get the guitar tone on "Dreams' Creation" and "Days gone bye". It doesn't sound like a plain Marshall tone to me, It sounds way better!.

lieb Yes, Blackmore has to be one of my favourite guitarists!

the local person I'd recommend that you start with Awake, which DT released in 93 or 94 (though having said that, your taste in satch albums isn't exactly the same as mine, so watch out.)

Lihis Great song mate... well done!

I have a quick question.... my JS1's (made in 1990) 1st string always breaks at about 1 cm from the bridge.... always the same place and usually it happens after a few days and a bit of trem usage... anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it? Merry xmas and a great new year to you all!

Chriso89 - Thanks!

I've had the problem with a couple of guitars, too. Most likely the string has worn the metal under it in the bridge so that when the string moves around it gets worn and finally it snaps. You can of course buy new tailpiece(or what's that little piece called under the string?). I'm not sure if this helps(good if you understand what I'm talking about :).

ChrisB - Your problem is arm socket torque? Haha I have the same problem with my cosmo black Edge on my 7V (Lo Pro is sitting off to the side, it gobbled strings). Frickin thing comes loose with nothing. I even installed a washer with the nut. Comes loose with nothing.

You have to take the whole trem off. You need a straight head screwdriver, I think 5/12. And a 10mm nut socket, I THINK. You have to hold and tighten the arm socket ring on the surface of the baseplate and tighten the nut on the flipside of the trem. I have no clue why it loosens. I may just glue mine.

Ethn - Dude, i'm pretty sure i've heard Yngwie play the same, exact same licks on different occasions. Even if not, he has like 5 licks that he uses over and over. Not really worth listening to anyways.

Mr Nick - I got that Dream Theater live scenes from new york cd too! That was a cool gift...

I must say that Spock's Beard is a pretty good band. TransAtlantic is also incredible. As soon as I get the money, I go to the local record shop and buy SNOW and SMPTe. (In case if you're interested ;)

Hey,

Hope everyone had a great Christmas. Um I have a question that I hope some one can answer. Right now I have an Ibanez SCA220 (Ibanez Site) (Note: go to guitars, s series, and then SCA/SC Models), and I wanted to get a tail piece or something so I could get a whammy bar on mine. Now going to the above link shows you something called a Short Stop II Tailpiece which seems would do the job, but when I go to the parts catalogue under that model of guitar, it only shows the original bridge that came with it. So I was just wondering if it was possible or not to rig somekind of tailpiece on my guitar so I can get a whammy bar? Thanks...

Mick

lihis: Great stuff you have there. Impressive.

mick87: I'm not sure I would recommend that. It can be a pretty expensive endeaver and quite time consuming. I'm not saying it's impossible or anything but it would be quite a bit cheaper to buy a guitar with a whammy bar already on it. Not to mention it would ruin your current guitar.

all: I hope everyone had a great Christmas. And now New Years looms infront of us like a bad dream. Time for all those resolutions to quit smoking, start excercising and all that jazz. No more decadence, a clean slate for a clean year. Anyone here have any resolutions yet. I plan to quit smoking and play more guitar. Well at least one is easy.

JS Clone --- I know I'm probably a day late and a dollar short with this one, but... THE SNIPER RETURNS!!! Sniping elves? Man, that's sick! :) Those little guys worked hard to put that stuff under your tree! :) Which reminds me, I wonder what the sniper got for Christmas? Um...well...wait a minute. Considering he's in jail, maybe I really don't want to know. Yep, in jail and away from access to guns where the idiots should have been in the first place.

Speaking of elves, I have this theory. It is my true belief that elves no longer participate in the creation of the toys that you receive for Christmas. Sure, it was good business in the beginning, when parts were plentiful and everyone wanted something simple, like baby dolls and spinning tops and choo-choo trains. However, as better and more efficient technologies manifested themselves, and the means to make toys no longer justified the cost of doing so, the entire operation at the North Pole turned into one big warehouse franchise and distribution center for third-party toy manufacturers. (Let's face it, no elf has the intelligence to build a working Nintendo Gamecube!) Get this...the guy we think is Santa Claus...FOURTH in command!! He's the delivery manager...

Jesus, I've got to get out more. Think I had too much egg nog...

Here's wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I'll be spending New Year's Eve at work. Food distribution center...gotta stay open. If we don't people in the nursing homes don't eat. Just the way it is... (Yes, it blows!)

And remember, Ritchie Blackmore WAS Rainbow. :)

Kudos!

Wow, after spending an ungodly amount of time learning and using MIDI on my computer to make a drum beat and a bass line, I'm finally realizing how utterly useless MIDI is...it sounds like sh%t. I mean it might even be worthwhile if it sounded believable!

On the subject of Yngwie, yeah he's fast...but fast doesn't necessarily mean good. I like to be able to hear an individual note at least once in a while. The only thing I like about Yngwie is his vibrato, that is, when there's enough time in between notes for one.

I'm off to get ready for work - have a great day everybody!

We had no electricity from 1:30 yesterday till a little more than an hour ago. Mac & Cheese for the kids for xmas dinner. Roads were to bad to travel to Grandma's for dinner. We finally have heat again. woohoo! We had a great Christmas eve & xmas morning, but from then on, it was all downhill. LOL! I did get some good video of how stupid everyone can get when their bored out of their skulls.....
