CLARKY - The Plek Profile system scans your guitar neck whilst it is strung up and tuned to pitch, whilst scanning it records the height of each individual fret in relationship to each individual string, this information is recorded with a 1/100th mm accuracy. The system then shows a graphical representation of the guitars action and fret heights, with the required adjustments needed shown according to the action type you require, if nescessary we will adjust the truss rod and rescan the guitar to ensure the minimum amount is removed from the frets. Once we are happy everything is adjusted correctly the strings are removed from the guitar and the profiling process is started. Using a stste of the art computer controlled grinding wheel the system removes the required amount from each fret so that the neck has the optimum relief for the gauge of strings chosen and reprofiles them one at a time. When the grinding process has finished the guitar is restrung and rescanned and the system then shows the correct string height at nut and bridge and we adjust these as nescessary. The result is a guitar that is easy to play with very little rattling and even clear intonated notes. (reproduced without permission from Chandlerguitars.co.uk)

They are based in Richmond so not too far from you, tel no 020 8940 5874.

btw - mine of information on the harmonics and modulation stuff as ever but what's this crap about 'playing around London' ? I've told you about that before! ;-)

Clarky - I was actually trying to work out how to do that ad realised i was playing a 50-50 harmonic. I grip the pick so my thumb and index finger are at right angles. This means that my tip o my finger is just behing the pick so i can play harmonics like that but it's quite tricky #. What i want to know is how Joe goes from a low harmonic to a high one (ICe 9, the part where he makes all the weird sounds) Does he do a pinch harmonic on the lower strings? I tried that. It sounded crap. Please help.

NICK, about your search for backing tracks, you may find DTs Christmas CDs useful. I don't actually have any of these, but they release one each year, and some of them I believe are "making of" cds with all the different parts on separately, and so on. Check out their site to find out if these are any good to you, and then you could probably find the cds on ebay.

this is my name - the harmonics with the index finger work in the same way as using your thumb. You have to ajust your pick grip slightly... holding it between the middle finger and thumb so that you can extend the index finger forwards. Fret the 1st string at the 12th fret. When you pluck the string make the index finger make contact with the string at the same time as the pick. If the index finger touches the string over the 24th fret [or where it would be if you have a shorter neck]. You should now be hearing the note E but as though it was played on the 24th fret. If you now fret the 1st string at the 14th [F#] and move your picking hand a little closer to the bridge and play the harmonic you should now hear F# as if it was played on an imaginary 26th fret.... and so on... dont forget that as the notes get higher the frets get closer together... you'll find that the spacings between the points where you place the index finger get closer too... Use 'landmarks' as a reference [i.e. front edge of neck pick up, the front pole piece, etc...] You'll obviously not be able to play these notes very quickly so it's not a shredder thing... but then, not everything you do on a guitar should be at 100MPH....

tyrant duke - click on the blue 'xx posts total' thing under my name. This will show you all of my posts.... Scan through until you find anything marked 'theory posse'... this is a complete series of theory tutorials right from scratch 'what is a scale?'.... Cut 'n' paste them into Word or something like that and go through them slowly... make sure you are happy that you understand everything before you move on... If you get stuck yell and I'll try to help you in more detail.... the latest 'theory posse' post is something like the 18th so far.... alternatively... I have them all in Word and can mail them to you one at a time....

you choose..

punk dude - steady on ... lol
ovation - funnily enough, I love Requiem deeply mostly due to what it represents... but it's an animal to play just right and so dissappointing to get wrong...
why the surprise about sex and music??? they are deeply related.... dont tell me you've never had a BJ from a Gibson??? .... lol
mowlie - modulating a babe into the sack... lol... I'm sure that my playing has greatly assisted me many times with the ladies... it makes you a little different. I woman was telling me once that I seemed so fired up, determined, passionate and when you play you can show a sensitive aspect along with aggression or just pure skill... and I think the ladies quite like that... she was trying to find out more about my hiden depths.... "I think you're so deep..." and she went on... a little while later she says "you've been pretty quiet, have you not been listening to anything I've been saying?"... I say "sorry.... I been looking at your tits..."
r6r - totally awesome... I want plekking........ I need it now.... even if my neck is perfect, I don't care... I just want it done...

on the live front... my biggest problem will be forming a band that can do it... I need a drummer that can play real tight to a click because I'll be using sequencers to play the orchestral and choral parts... I have a drummer, bassist and keyboard player in mind - and I know that they are very interested in doing this... I also need a rhythm guitarist that plays 7-string..

the flobb - the low to high harmonic is a 'natural' harmonic... this means that it is applied on an open string [usually the G string].. you pre-bend it low by slackening the strings with the whammy bar. Play the note / harmonic and allow the whammy to slowly return to its natural 'floating' position.

I bought Joes Live DVD yesterday, and i must say, FANTASTIC. It's a masterpiece, form the songs, to the band, to the extras, right down to the playing (which is rather good too). Thanks to Joe im fitting a floyd rose onto my Ibanez Iceman so i can do all the great effects they enable me to do. I got the Surfgin with the Alien music book the toher day, and i learnt Allways with me Allways with You on the first night, but sadly i've got another 4 weeks until i can learn the rest of them, as my guitar aint back unitl then :'( Good work Joe, and please tour England

The Young Ones ruled. "What a complete bastard!" Haven't seen those since MTV had them on back in the days of Hall & Oates and Diamond Dave.

Watched Spiderman last night and have to agree it sucked. That two hours felt like two years in purgatory.

Crispin: That's the Superbowl I want to see as well but Philly has got me nervous. As long as Oakland takes it, it's all good though.

I think Power Cosmic 2000 Pt. 1 is one of the most beautiful Joe songs;-)
Ethn-LOL. The Mummy 1 was much better than the 2nd, but the 2nd was good because it filled in some of the blanks. Well for me anyways.
Clarky-What in the world are you talking about?
Michelle-Today it's supposed to hit a low of 17 degrees here in Atlanta!! I hate cold. The only time I like cold is when it snows, but I don't see snow anywhere:(
I know this is late but, Happy 500th MrNick! Gosh you're old;-D

I had a dream about Joe and Jeff. We were somewhere in North Dakota and Jeff ended up going on a hike with these kids. It was really weird. Plus I had a deja-vu dream. Then I had a dream of where we were in this restaurant and then we ended up being in this train and we slid off the tracks and jumped about 20 ft. down to another railway. I could actually feel my stomach jumping LOL. The guy that was driving assured us that the train was magnetic. Weird
