DANNY K - I'm glad somebody remembers SM, i was starting to think that i'd dreamt it ;-) Great tone don'tya think ?
ARTANIS - I think that a certain 'Deadly Sin' might have been lifting my leg with that Natsa business, but i can assure you that i always look over my shoulder before adjusting my truss rod - lol
H302- 'play something good on the guitar man' -lmao
OVATION - Yes! At last something thats not so good about Oki, mind you Ovation Promotions does have a ring to it, great pic of JS btw. As for your arm, dude Mr Miagi said use both arms - lol For my 2 cents on the floating bridge, i can live with it, but big stretches definitely put any open strings right out.
MR NICK - I want a shrubbery !
2TON - The one good song conundrum, man i'm still trying do do one good one. I know exactly what you mean, i think that it must be harder to write as a solo artist and be consistent, at least in a band set up if someone offers an idea (be it drummer, bassist, keys) then it gives others a starting point to stamp their own mark on. I think it's down to right time, right mood, right place or maybe just in some cases a fortunate accident. That's my take on it anyway ;-)
SMITHERS - Jeff Healy - it shouldn't suprise you that he is good despite being blind, in musical terms that's a plus, his sense of hearing will be more acute than a sighted person. His style is what blows me away, that over hand business. He has always been into serious music, i read somewhere that he's got over 10,000 old jazz records. On the tuning front, one thing that CLARKY didn't mention was the locking nuts - some of them have a ridge down the middle, this is so that the lock nut can pivot between the two strings and grip them both, if it's put on the wrong way (with the ridge running in the same direction as the frets) it will not function in the way it was designed.
MICHELLE - Do you cast spells when you wrinkle your nose ;-)
MICK87 - Dr Feelgood wouldn't have sounded the same with ....... 'got me on milk and lic.. licqour' lol
STU CLONE - Perhaps you can't drink like your Aunt can then ? :-)
PHRYDOM - One track done ! Although i think i prefer to call it a sketch, i just can't be arsed with the re takes............... now who was it that said 'That's good enough for jazz' ?

What guitar would I buy? GIBSON LES PAUL Not because it's better than my current guitar, but because the one thing I'm lacking is a good, rounded double humbucker sound.
JSCLONE1 - Yeah, Yamaha Pacifica was my first guitar. They've got great diversity of sound and are quite good as an entry level guitar, but eventually the poor sustain and whammy action started letting me down.
The Yamaha RGX420 is better. I swear, hook this baby up to a POD effects unit and a Marshall amp, and you can do ANYTHING!
I often find myself wondering who does the playing on various video game soundtracks. Some driving and shooting games have some really quality shredding in them.

CLARKY - i'm suprised that you can remember anything on the tech side with all that music theory banging round your head.................................. any chance of a masterclass on effects useage to create the perfect tone ? I always just play around with the various parameters on my RP2000 but i wouldn't mind betting that there is a methodical approach to acheived better results ?

Ovation1 - PGM300 with fixed Edge? Never knew anyone else took on the fixed Edge. I might like a PGM10th but the PGM neck or almost identical to the JEM neck. I don't like Jem necks. The only diff between JEM and PGM necks are that the PGM fretboard have 400mm radius as opposed to 430mm. Means a little more curved. Yeah, I just don't want my 7V anymore. I only ever use it for live performances where I need a whammy. Eg. Hordes of Locusts, For the Love of God. Ok damnit, I want that Yamaha Pacifica. There was this other guitar I was considering that is very similar to the Pacifica. It is a Fender Texas Hot Rod Strat with a hardtail bridge. Man, beautiful. Seymour Duncan rear humb. 2 strat single coils. I think was alder body. It costs almost as much as a 7V so, that kinda put me off. The Pacifica I think I liked just as much anyways for something that cost 65% less. Some things I liked more, some not as much.
tommy1977 - Nick Lee from this site has the backing track. I have the Satriani version. Drop me a line.
Narface - Where'd you hear about that from?
LGU - WHOA, that one is cool too!
Hi Gain - Sustain? You must've had a lower end one. Alder/maple, man, the sustain had nowhere to hide. The bridge was standard. Wilkinson too. That's high quality stuff.

Austin, I'm going for the Raiders. My favorite player, Rod Woodson, is there (been a fan of his since he was with the Steelers), plus Jerry Rice** & Romanowski (ex-49er's) - they have a good team. The fans in Raider Nation are the most fun to watch too. I actually fell asleep for part of the Eagles game. I figured the first big play was gonna be their last. lol!
edit : It's Martin Luther King jr day. Do something nice for somebody today :)

mowlie - you'll struggle with the riffs without either playing a 7-string or a B drop tuned 6. I like the heaviness of sub-E keys so most of the riffing is in the B to D range...... I have messed with a C# tuning where the 6th is dropped to B... it makes some of the parts much easier and others become a real handfull... The 7-string is the best choice but they are quite tiring to play for long periods.... However, a 6 string dropped to B with a very heavy string guage to compensate for the loss of tension sounds very cool... that would be great for my riffer but bad for me because I'd loose all of the top notes...
the confiuriation I'm looking for is:
5-string bassist [which I have found]
B Dropped 6 or 7 string player for the rhythm
Concert tuned 6 and 7 string for me [which I have]...
If you have a spare 6 then there is no reason not to drop it and mess around....
r6r - now there's a great idea.... I do have a pretty sound grasp of how effects work in terms of what they do to the input waveform... yes there is a systematic approach as to 'what effects do I need / what sort of settings should they have' so that you can get to a pretty close starting point... you then fine tune the settings allowing your personal taste and ears to be the judge....
Something that many folks don't realise.... your live and studio settings should not be exactly the same..... with my 2120 I have one bank of patches for studio and another bank configured exactly the same but the eq and effect depths changed to allow for my Marshalls and big volumes.....
JSC1 - judging by what you've been saying I think you'd quite like my Strat..both in the way it handles and the tone.. but as I've said before, the down side is it's weight and a 22 fret neck..
jeez.... I should play it more often....

Mr NickNope, I don't have any of those messenger thingys.
r6r What does Imao mean? (No, I still haven't figured it out.)
Whoever a guitarists wishes to be must answer me these questions three:
What is your name?
Joe Satriani
What is your quest?
To play some cool licks on a shiny guitar.
What is the main purpose of barre-ing the neck of a guitar?
Well, do you mean a normal left hand barre, or do you mean when I use my right hand and then tap with my left hand, as demonstrated on "the mystical potato head groove thing?"
Er, um, AAARRRRGGHHH
So much for my attempt to adapt Monty Python, See y'all.

mr nick ... I know the philosopher's song by heart and I will sing it nonstop at a moments notice much to the dismay of anyone nearby and by dismay I don't mean because I have a bad voice I don't but simply because some people find it annoying and that's exactly why I do it and also because it's so dang funny
John Stuart Mill of his own free will .......

Immanuel Kant was a real pissant
Who was very rarely stable.
Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar
Who could think you under the table.
David Hume could out-consume
Schopenhauer and Hegel,
And Wittgenstein was a beery swine
Who was just as schloshed as Schlegel.
There's nothing Nietzsche couldn't teach ya
'Bout the raising of the wrist.
John Stuart Mill, of his own free will,
On half a pint of shandy was particularly ill.
Plato, they say, could stick it away
Half a crate of whiskey every day.
Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle,
Hobbes was fond of his dram,
And Rene Descartes was a drunken fart:
"I drink, therefore I am"
Yes, Socrates, himself, is particularly missed;
A lovely little thinker but a bugger when he's pissed!
Long live the Monty Python!
smooches,
