Nick - song writing and composition in general is a subject that interests me greatly... there are so many different ways of going about it and there are no rules [unless you're sitting in a composition class at university].

I managed to get the first rhythm guitar cut on the Baptist last night... three more to go before I can start cutting the sredz...

hi this is priyam from calcutta, india. i am a big fan of satriani.i have one important question to ask. joe how do you compose instrumentals. do you follow any methodology while composing those soulful tunes? how much are you influenced by other people's tunes. IMPORTANT: JOE PLEASE LET ME KNOW ABOUT MUSICIANS WHO HAVE INSPIRED YOUR STYLE.ALSO YOUR LIST OF 10 GREAT GUITARISTS OF ALL TIME.

ALSO PLEASE COME TO CALCUTTA.THIS IS THE ONLY INDIAN city which has a SPECIAL liking for performing arts.

one more question: have you guys ever heard of A.R.RAHMAN the GREAT INDIAN COMPOSER.ACCORDING TO MANY HE IS ONE OF THE BEST COMPOSERS THE WORLD HAS EVER PRODUCED. PEOPLE INTERESTED IN INDIAN MUSIC SHOULD LISTEN TO A.R.RAHMAN.

MICK87 - I totally agree with Stu Not Boo, never to early to learn about modes (or too late in my case!) But my advice (imho, and somebody elses) is don't go out and and buy a book with the scale shapes in, try to learn how the modes are formed and then you can work them out for yourself ;-)

YMOB - Stanley Jordan, tapping too much ? Your havin' a larf aren't you ? The guy only has to tap his foot and he's a band!

CRUSHING DAY - Looks like there's no hope you man, taken out by drugs at such an early age (shame, shame), never mind dude you'd better just forget about it and chill out ;-)

TYRANTDUKE - Yeah i'm with you man AP kicks ass, i bought the Megadeth DVD just the other day. btw he also played on one of Randy Coven's solo albums, Sammy Says Ouch! i think, i believe it was him that covered Little Wing - 'kin awesome !

EXTREMIST - Great positive message to me there man and good recommendations on the DVD's. Are you in the UK then dude ? Have you got an iuma site or similar ?

PHRYDOM - You're very welcome man, patience though i'm working on it, just don't raise your expectations too much ;-)

CLARKY - 'And the Lord said 'Let there be shred' and there was shred, and the sound of shred was heard around the valley' (Don Valley that is!) ;-)

If anyone is interested, or even bothered, I have some quicktime movies of Clarky ready for distribution. As it is also nearing the time for people to show their interest in the "Shredz at an exhibition" cd, please drop me a line so I can start to build a data base ready for the cd release later this year. Who knows. There may even be t-shirts too.

Armaments Chapter Two Verses Nine To Twenty One:

And St. Attila raised the hand grenade up on high saying, "O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade that with it thou mayest blow thine enemies to tiny bits in thy mercy..."...And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the holy pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shalt be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being nasty in my sight, shall snuff it. Amen."

Sorry, couldn't resist a little Python this morning, good day everyone.
