sweep pick - I get that all the time. you get stuck in a rut and your world colapses. fear not though i find that learning a new piece of music can help get out of the rut. It takes a couple of dayspractice then after that you start to get inspiration again - hope this helps

cheers crispin - i''ll try that - try ebay for the pedal - having ssaid that i do keep an eye out myself as I want one but they do come and go at good prices! otherwise try www.guitar-mania.com for a rough price - I would personally not go for a signiture model due to the extra money or lesser quality product just for the name thats attatched if you get what i mean

ollyno1uk: First plug your guitar into your compressor for a clean signal throughout the chain. Then distortion because it's better to distort a clean signal than a processed one. When wah, chorus, flange or other coloring effects followed by an eq. The order on the coloring effects matters little. Then you can put in a delay to use the chorus or flange on repeats. Then reverb followed by your noise compressor.

Sweep pick: I go through that more often than not it seems. What I do is just trudge through it. Sometimes I just play everything I know how to play backwards or turn off all the lights and play wherever my fingers want to go. Every once in a while you stumble across something cool. Also, change whatever you've been listening to for a couple days.

anyone here know either of the following?
- the beginning part of the fast guitar on flying in a blue dream?
- why satch uses his left hand for the wammy on those crazy harmonics?
- how I can get rid of some of the buzz whilst using a power supply for my pedals?

h302-I love KID A,and don't like the Bends and their previous work.I like Amnesiac, but not as much as kid A or OK computer.
:D
sweep-Yeah,I feel that way some times. You need an outside critique of your playing,if you want to know if you are progressing.
I recommend learning some things that are different for you, like some folk or country songs, some Zappa, play only without a pick,or play with the blunt end of the pic(like pat metheny),play left handed, tune the guitar to a random tuning and just play with out figuring out exactly what it is,study harmony and theory a bit.
Unorthodox things like this that are not a part of your routine will help you get out of your rut.
Sometimes I feel like I haven't progressed much since I was 17(6 years ago) but if I think about it,I have learned a lot of new stuff.True,I can't move my fingers any faster now,and I don't sound like a completely different player or anything, but I have diversified a little. My friends and dad are the ones who pointed it out to me,whenever I would whine about my playing status.

Olly-Stu Not Boo already answered that 2nd question a page or two back.
As for the Flying solo, you can find the tab in many different places on the net.
Try www.powertabs.net for one.

ok he uses his left hand because he does a pinch harmonic with his right and if u try to use the same hand to deprees and lift the bar at the same time not only is it very hard it sounds messy! to do a satch screem do a pinch harmonic ona n open string (G OR B WORK BEST) whilst depressing the bar and then raise it up. it tales sum practise but is v cool
the noise. try arranging in a different order. rule of thumb is:
guitar-gain effects-pitch effects-echo-then amp.i usualy put the waa and the very begging or end depending on pedals. this isnt always the case but mess around and see

Ollyno1uk...someone already answered your question about why satch uses his left hand to control the whammy bar whilst he uses his right hand to pinch the harmonic....on the fast legato at the the start of flying: It took me a while to learn this but just take your time and try and learn it in bars or phrases or for the dim 'chunks' :D Do you have any knoledge of reading music? It makes getting the phrasing and timing correct on fast legato passages easier i think if you have an at least small grasp of music reading so you can tell how long each phrase etc lasts for...Its much easier than just reading the tab....Joe Rules.....

thanks ethn but what I dont understand about the left hand thing is if he has done a pinch harmonic on 1or 2 strings assumably on the open then surely as soon as he administers the harmonic his right hand is free to move the wammy?
also with flying in ablue dream - I have 2 tab books with 2 different versions. I have slowed down flying... and they are both incorrect and even slowed down it is too fast for me to hear.
What Ineed is someone who can advise me a way that they play which they know is right!

Olly with fast flowwing legarto phrases like that as long as u learn them and play them clear the order or a few discrepinces dont matter. foe example with surfing the final fast solo after the samples i p-lay it sliightly differently every time but as long as the melodic contenet is there u dont need to get ur knickers in a twist!lol

Hey guys.... I found a *little* time to post.... so... who wants to be "chewed out" (not my words)? Anybody know that all American presidents have been American? And so if anybody says "your own Bill Clinton (not my words)" to someone from BritaIn really oughtta be talking to someone from the USA? He's not our own cos he doesn't come from here. I guess Xth grade ain't what it oughta be these days!!!!!!! Bring on the underage punches.... I'm so fat I wouldn't feel them even if this virtual existence was real.... wtg... talk about your kiddie movies and your (understandably) immature crushes on drummers... but I have better things to do, starting with my life!
Sorry guys.... even if it comes back I'll try real hard not to retaliate... but you know how it is.... anyway... something important just came up and I gotta go..... if any immature people want to talk some more (hell, if anybody wants to talk some more), email me... it saves the normal mature people in here from reading it!
Thanks Kell/Kelly for the email... it's all coming back to me now.... mp3.com want your information for resale purposes... I'll see what I can do.....

Hi everyone... I was shuffling through the Satch MP3s that I put on my computer (I have a lot of my CDs on here so I can shuffle songs around like a jukebox). I was listening to Crystal Planet from LISF, and at the very end of the track you hear Joe playing some of the chords from Love Thing. He then introduces that song, and then the track ends before Love Thing starts (obviously). The next song on my playlist was Devil's Slide. So it was funny hearing him say "This next one is called Love Thing..." and then having something heavy like Devil's Slide kick in. So that's my funny story for today. ;-)
