What the hell is IMHO?

Sorry, don't know how I spoiled it with my second post. I'm not looking to exploit JS. Just pass along some vintage stuff, and if I could make a buck, so be it. Not a big deal.

Most of the lessons I have are Jazz type rythm progressions, because Joe was trying to teach me Chord Structure, Modulation, and Rythm progressions.

Be Cool & Rgds,

Berkely Boy

phrydom, invigor - great :) it's looking number one. Have either of you connected it up to a midi footboard thing like the one they suggest, to use wah etc? It's just that I can't find details on this and what it can add. I've downloadd the manual and seen the midi function sheet type thing but I have no idea what it means to be honest in practical terms- any help would be appreciated.

matt- just d/loading celesetial love song, ok done, listening now. That sounds really good, thoroughly listenable to :)

jelly type person ) ;-) )... yes I have the BCB FCB 1010 remote thingy whotsit... and the wah's great (although I just got a Boss V-Wah which is da bizniss)... I programmed delay time into one of the real time controllers and it's pretty weird (if you like weird!)... for me it's great to be able to select patches from more than a selection of five (the included footswitch only goes up and down in one group) - now I can select my Fripp bank, by Joe bank, my Dave bank, my NIN bank, etc, and it's really cool! HTH

Berkeley man IMHO is (looooooong standing) internet short "hand" for "in my humble opinion". I won't argue with you about making money (we all need to, I guess), but personallly I was upset by your suggestion. I've never even met Joe, but he is one of the people I respect the most.... to make "a few bucks" (or whatever you said) from your *wondrous lucky enviable don't-realise-what-it-was life-changing" experience seems (more than) a little shallow to me. If you need money get a job. I can't put it any plainer than that.

Later, Dave

phrydom - excellent stuff. So I assume you can use it for nice simple things like volume, and drive as well. Controlling rates of choruses/flangers etc. could make some weird noises. And believe me, I'm into weird. As one of these days, everyone on here will testify- and not just from my name.

greg m - Sounds like a deal to me. But wait! I'm only using a Laney Linebacker (50wt) amp so I'll need to do another deal with Joe and make him see the light tht I'm worthy of his amp's' ;)

See, if I have his amps, then I'll get the true sound from his - MY guitar. Of course that still leaves my Ibanez Gio. Who will have that?

Cleetus - Valentine's Day is to me as the 4th of July is to a Austrailian. It means nothing. I've never had a girlfriend... so I just kinda ignore this day and lust for the hott ass girls i see everyday.

and to you my friend. V-Amp 2 users/ other modelling device users - ever tried putting a bass through it? The bass amp at church is really quite poo, and picks up ENORMOUS feedback from the hearing loop when DIed so it would be immensly useful to have a DI able bass which sounds decent without cranking up.

Not really trying to make any money. Other musicians told me I ought to put my original JS lessons into book format and sell them. I just asked "Stu not Boo" if he thought the original lessons would be worth some cash.

Phrydom, thinks I'm a geek or something. Either that or everytime I mention a Drum Machine for recording purposes, people think I'm an idiot. Does anyone use a friggin' DM for anything anymore. Maybe I'm just too old and technically challenged.

I'm playin' thru a Digitech RP14D guitar processor, Fender Deville 212. Axe: 91' Fender American Standard Strat. Among others.

I hope that's O.K. with Phrydom!

Beserk out!

Sorry Dude. I didn't see your response before I posted again. I've got plenty of money, so don't want or need to sell the lessons. I've held on to and re-studied those lessons for about twenty four years now and wouldn't want to lessen the experience by selling them off. It's like owning a classic work of art. Wouldn't you be curious to know it's worth. Obviously, no amount of money could cover the intrinsic value they have to me. Sorry I threw it out there. Didn't mean to offend the Purists.

Brgds,

Hugh

Master Yoda - I guess you could search for LA-area housing over the internet. Maybe do a search at Google. I did a quick search and came up with this site that might help you.

michelle - You're very welcome. :-)
crispin - Go to your friend's gig...you made that commitment first, right?

And what kind of question is "Have you ever heard of Yes?"...? ;-) I saw them in December. Rick Wakeman is back in the band...they sound absolutely phenominal.

PhryDom - "The dog's danglies"...LMAO! I've never heard that expression before.
Ph Neutro - Look through the pictures of the recent gig at The Fillmore and you can see Joe's live gear.
tyrantduke - Make sure you read everything...there will be a quiz at the end of the day.
Berkeley Boy - Yeah, the lessons are probably worth some money. I can't imagine why you would want to sell them, though. I think the cool thing to do would be to scan them and send them to fans that would like to see them for free. You could also email them to webmaster@satriani.com for possible inclusion on this site, or maybe make copies and snail-mail them to Joe's management office so he can see them again.

It's Stu not Boo

Sounds like a good idea. Gotta get a scanner though.

I was'nt planning on getting into all this interactive chat, because I haven't ever been into the chat thing. It's pretty cool talking to other Satch Fans though. I was just trying see if I could "Talk to Joe" and reconnect.

Have a good one, and if anybody is interested, I'll e-mail the lessons to the management office for posting.

Late.

matt king - I just downloaded your newest version of Celestial Love Song. Here are some of my comments...all IMHO, of course.

The oceany intro is cool. I think the bass (Or is it rhythm guitar?) from about 0:17-0:25 is nice, but I think it might sound better if it wasn't as high in the mix. Yeah, it's already subtle, but a little more subtlety might be better.

I agree with someone else (I think it was JSC1) that said the overall lead guitar tone in this song was too "harsh"/"rough"/"gritty" (I don't know the best way to describe that). The "smoother" sound you had on the earlier demos seemed to fit this song much better, IMHO.

I love the chord at 1:40, and the break from 3:20-3:25 is a nice touch.

EDIT - I forgot the ... at the end of my name. ;-)

JSclone1: Do you think I should enter that guitar competition that DCK posted? I have songs ready to go, but it's just melodic stuff. The compositions I've recorded so far didn't lend them selves to an overwellming ammount of technicality. If I decide to, I guess I'll send "Funky Munky" "Darkness" and "Sonic Anarchy" What do you think?

Like the new version Matt... Is this one in E or D? Too lazy to check : P

Personally, I think the tone fits for what you were doin in the song... The way I see it, if you had tried to do the same licks at a softer setting, you woulda had to change around the whole feel of the song.
