Matt: good luck at the Brian Moore test drive, you won't need it! And about the stuff you said about either going with music or moving on, this is the conclusion I've come to. You can always get a job teaching at a music store, or working in one while still persuing guitar. I'm 20, and being close to the end of college, that's the decision I've made. Working in that kind of environment is fun, and it leaves me open to keep playing recording sessions and produce/record other bands. Remember, producing or composing may be another avenue in the music bizz that will allow you to generate capital that will then allow you to create all the instrumental music you want.
JSClone1: thanks for the picking advice. My normal right hand technique is actually 99% thumb joint movement (it just flows for me and minimizes movement) I am however picking really fast alternate stuff from the elbow for now. I'm getting very precise with it, and it isn't givinig me any stress issues, so it should be okay, but ideally I'd like to be able to play as fast as possible using my standard pick method. btw, i might be able to record and compile so licks to send you tommorrow.

To all instrumentalists: DCK,Danny K, Clarky, JSclone1, Matt King, Sharif, Pete Mulas, and any one else I forgot. What do you guys think about collaborating to put together a compilation cd of our stuff to sell here, and else where on the web? It could be kind of like the Merry Axemas cd's but with original tunes.

OCPS470: Sounds cool to me, but if we're gonna sell 'em, I think all proceeds should go to some type of charity like Vai's Make A Noise Foundation. Maybe we could talk Favoured Nations into helping with distribution that way. Anyway, I'm up for it. Pick a song or I'll write a new one, which ever.

Chris, thanks man! Right now I'm a guitar teacher at a local shop working hard to pay the bills and all! But it's a lot of fun, and very cool to work with alot of guitar players. Passing on what you know is really a challenge when you're working with 50 different students a week that all have a different speed of comprehension and all! It's a great job, that's for sure. Music it is for me...now, what next? Fingers are crossed that someone upstairs is pullin for me over the next week or so...

Matt: 50 students?! Holy cow turds! I'm teaching at George's music, but I only plan on teaching 15 max for now, because school's my priority (I lied practicing guitar is). My target goal, if I don't get a solo guitar career (haha in my dreams!) is to be the next Angelo Ginotti. He's one of the biggest session players in Orlando. He does the music in Friends and is a Carvin endorsee. He's just a great player diverse in many styles. I'm off to a good start with sessions, but it takes a while to get lots of work around here.

chris :) hehe Im not quite at 50 yet! but that's the potential at the rate i'm goin!! haha as far as solo career...I'm more of the band type. I could never acredit myself with all of the work, mainly cause I don't play all of the instruments. I write a lot and all...but, I like being part of a team I suppose! Session work...now that would be fun too! You're def on the right track too man...keep at it!

Matt: I need to start following your recording/ writing approach, you know "keeping it simple." It's typical for me to take months to finish a song because I double track most of the rythm and do tons of layering. And yes, working with a team (I wish I could find a band) would remove the pain from my ass. Hell, my last song "Darkness" took 6 months start to finish to record as a beat my head about the details. So what are your plans for the Brian Moore demo?

hey matt I read your post about moving on to something else well I've been playing guitar for 19 years and I haven't quit actually I don't think I could quit even if I wanted to and I think your a hell of a lot better than me you have learned quite a bit but there's more to learn your just 19 I don't think joe was even famous until he was something like in his 30's I think anyway look at him ask joe when he made his first tape (back then) I never heard of him until in the late 80's or early 90's
I could be wrong about what age joe became famous but maybe you should ask him

OCPS470: Not sure about that one. Used to like it, but it is littered with countless mistakes. I'll come up with something over the next couple weeks maybe. On another note, 6 months on a song. Damn dude that takes dedication. I on the other hand have the attention span of a nat. With less than a handful of exceptions, every song I've done was written, arranged, recorded, mixed and encoded within 6 hours. Of course there is a huge quality difference in my stuff and yours so there ya go. Perhaps I'll take a little more time with the next one.

Matt King - Way to go with the endorsement, man!!!! That'll go a really long way to getting you noticed. Don't expect to hear from the record guys within a week - they get so many things like demos sent through every day that they don't listen to most of them coz there's just too damn many!!!!. Keep pestering them though - don't just try once. Also, do you have a manager? If you have, they'll be more likely to listen to your stuff. A lot of companies refuse to listen to unsolicited demos; ie. demos that haven't come from a professional source like a manager. But I'll agree with everyone else though - you got heaps of talent. Just stick at it and SOMETHING will definitely happen eventually. I have to add that I'm really annoyed that you can play like that at 19. That's the same age as me and I'm not nearly as good as you...
Clarky - A few weeks would be cool. I'll bring my new guitar!!!!!!
Attention all UK guys and gals - Frank Gambale is playing at Ronnie Scotts in Soho all of next week. Costs about 15 quid but should be worth it - he really is quite good...
Neil
