Yeah Clarky!

It's funny you should mention the Low Blood Pressure thing... blood is the key to this issue I'm sure...

11 years ago I was diagnosed with a rare form of Hipoglycemia(spelling!?)... at times I would have real low blood sugar to the point that I'd Black Out... my heart would actually stop for a split second, enough for me to lose consiousness and then at other times it's as if I had so much energy that I could hardly control myself & my actions... like a diabetic shock (almost drukin state)... my family doctor accused me of being on drugs, drinking too much alcohol (that's silly because I can barely handle one beer).

For the record I've never smoked up, shot up, sniffed, swallowed, and I've been drunk maybe enough to hold 4 fingers up to count the times...

I knew I hadn't done anything wrong but unfortunately the doctor and I don't get along anymore, and I decided to find another doctor but never got around to it and again; unfortunately there are no doctors in my city taking patients anymore, and I haven't been to one for 6 years now... This thing has been a real kicker to me over the years... But I haven't had any serious problems for many years now...

Yeah I guess it's time to go, my girlfriend luckily has a doctor and gets along with him really good, so she's going to try to get me in with him as soon as her next appointment comes along... I'm crossing my fingers!

Diabetes runs all in the family as well, an extreme case of it actually, the whole family has it... Mother, Father, Grandmothers had it etc... it's only inevitable that I should get it too... I've never been one to go gung ho on the sweets but sometimes a little is all it can take and there you have it, you're taking shots of insulin for the rest of your life...

about signature guitars, I totally agree with Matt King. To me, a signature guitar is a collector's item. Not something you would use to perform with. Well, unless you customize it your way. I don't like to copy an artist, I will only be influenced. I think it's a natural thing. I play with my band, and we were experimenting with a bit of speed metal, but I kept slipping these bluesy Satch-like licks into it and I was like, "what the hell am I doing?" Ha!

But it does annoy me when another artist is using a signature series guitar. There's this local artist here, and he is quite a good guitarist, but on one of his albums, he had a picture of a JSY2K!!! I mean, who does he think he is? Korn used Vai's Universe in the early days, but it's because they could not find anything that plays that well. Also, it was only a temporary guitar, they got their own signature models later.

I'm not saying people should not be getting signature models. I just want people to find their own voice in their music. Whenever I pick up a signature guitar, I feel pressured because I think people will expect me to be able to play like someone else. That's why I got the RG570EXCPK. Mine came with a lo-pro. Special guitar, cuz it comes with an edge in later models. That's my special guitar.

NARFACE...

I know how you feel man... the only thing about Ibanez is that you imediately think that it's a SATCH or VAI instrument, at least that's how I felt about Ibanez anyway... and then with Fender Strat that's a Gilmour, Clapton, Hendrix, Malmsteen, Vaughn instrument... with Gibson Les Pauls, that's a Page, Slash, Wylde, instrument...

I felt that in order for me to feel "myself" on a guitar, it had to be something that I put together myself! "Here's My Guitar"

It looks professional, and I had a hand in building it... I think truely if you really want to understand the instrument more then; take the time, be patient, and build one yourself! whether it's from scratch or from prefabricated parts, I say TRY IT!!!

these are the guys that helped me out http://www.warmoth.com

Hope this helps some of you understand the big picture out there... there's alot of fine instruments out there I must admit, but I say there's nothing more "gratifying" than to put your heart into something you made and are able to play a song on it for the 1st time... when I put this guitar together & played it for the 1st time, it brought tears to my eyes...

Clarky... I have a random question for you. I'm not really expecting you to know the answer, but I guess I'll ask anyway. If you don't know, maybe someone else can help me...

There were a few times between a year and year and a half ago where I was calling the AOL customer service department. They put me on hold (LOL), and the music that they played in the background was really cool. I don't remember much about it, but it had a really cool piano part (it was mostly piano). There might've been some symphonic stuff in the background as well.

There was a certain piano part that was repeated every so often...it sounded very much like the harmonic intro to Summer Song (the thing around the 4th and 5th frets on the A, D, and G strings).

Do you have any idea what piece of music this might be? Your earlier comments about Summer Song reminded me of this question. And with your recent posts about different orchestral stuff I thought I should ask the question again... LOL. Thanks for reading this far. ;-) I'm sorry for being completely random.

Hey all, I was just listening to a cd my dad gave me. The guitarist is Larry McCray. Every one should try to look this guy up online, he is one of the most briliant blues guitaristts I've heard in a long time. JSClone1: thanks again for the recent post you put up about "Darkness." That song is my most recent so far, and I was trying to be bluesy. I'm glad you can appreciate what I've been attempting to do in my music. I'm back to recording a new song that is going to be very much of the format where the vocal is replaced with the guitar. It should be very melodic. If that doesn't work out, maybe I'll just go nuts a record some 64th note legato speed runs. HAHA.

Funny news everyone!!! I checked out the 2003 Ibanez catalogue and found something weird. We all read from websites saying that the JS1000WH is not in production anymore. But when I looked at Satch's guitars, there it is! The lovely classy white JS!!! I think the discontinued model is the burnt blue. So is it good news or bad news? You decide!! Oh, all Satch and Vai guitars have the Edge-pro trem.

Hi, Joe! Haven't checked in for quite awhile! Work is nuts and I've been feeling low lately! A friend of ours has breast cancer, someone my husband works with died at 49 suddenly while watching a Nicks game, then the shuttle...I don't know. It's too much sometimes! Just wanted to let you know your music brings me comfort. Congrats on your nomination for the Grammy - if there's any justice, you'll get it! And also congrats on receiving the Governor's Award. You should be proud of your accomplishments. I'm sure they haven't come without sacrifice. Consider varying your set list with some more stuff from "Joe Satriani", "Crystal Planet" (ANY tune will do!) and some "Flying..." like Back to Shalla Bal and The Forgotten. Joe tune of the day - "If". Such a fun, fantastic song! Bring on the new stuff, Joe!

death cube...AGAIN that is a STYLE of a guitar...not a signature model so to speak. You can't buy a guitar shaped like a js from ibanez...and i mean EXACTLY shaped like a JS that is not a signature model...HOWEVER, you CAN buy an SG or a LESPAUL that isn't signature model...see where Im going with this?! ;:)

I tend to agree with Matt on this Les Paul thing. I don't see my Les Paul guitar as a Les Paul the person signature series. It's the name of the guitar that he designed. I don't think, that when the LP came out, it was being advertised as "the guitar Les Paul plays", but nearly a new style guitar that happens to be named after the man that designed it. That's where most of the companies got there first models' names I'm sure. Do people buy PRS guitars to sound like Paul Reed Smith? Do people buy Fender guitars to sound like Leo Fender?

As far as playing signature series guitars and still keeping your own sound, I think that is quite possible. Tone is in the hands, not the knobs.

matt king .. who do you think "les paul " is? he is a brilliant guitar player, yes it was a signature series. ,,, why do you think "les paul" or lester paulfus as his birth name is shaped like that, he is a human not a shape, it is a signature series he still get royalties on every les paul sold. therefore it is a signature series. any way good luck .. i mean rick neilsen is the only guitar player to have a signature guitar shaped like him.. so...

trutina les pauls were marketed as the guitar les paul played, as for the prs statment. he is a manufacturer like gibson his guitars have model names ie:dragon, custom24/ce22 singlecut ,santana, tremonti,. fender is also a manufaturer of guitars , as gibson is. so comparing a player to a builder is different brush up on you history boys..

The thing that i dont like about sig models is that most of them are WAY too custom. take for example the tom daschlonge stratocaster with a humbucker and a volume knob.. ALL you can do with that is punk 182. I love readin on HC how versatile that guitar is.. ive played one.. its either loud chank or soft chank.. single coils belong in strats.

Where as with a JS1000 (Wasnt me who started this??) I see that as a much more versatile guitar... i dont want one to sound just like satch.. Im sure it would get me there, but honestly, I think they are just real fine guitars, i like the pickups.. a little midrangy, but thats what a tone knob is for. The necks are beautiful on them.. fatter than the wizard, but thin enough to not get in the way/be uncomfortable. I first started out looking for a JS100.. just a simple guitar, humbuckers and a trem bridge, but then i decided why that? when i will want to upgrade everything anyway, i may as well hold out for a 1000. RG's and Jem's dont do it for me. Necks are too thin and the bodys are too pointy.

This s370 Im getting is real nice i bet, but its got a scribble, so im not sure if i can play it yet. believe me, it is definitely skewing my decision to buy a 1000.

In my opinion, signature models are just usually a step up from the "step after entry model"- for instance, a step above an american strat- with a more focus on tone similar to the artist.. SRV- thicker neck, hotter pickups... thats not gonna make you sound like SRV.. but its closer than a MIM with cold pickups. Which is why we will never see a eric johnson sig. strat.. because his #1 is JUST A VINTAGE STRAT! :)

rant over questions? this will be covered on the final....

death cube K, ok I did a little research and it shows and endorsement by Les Paul. I got my facts mixed up. So you have an Orville Gibson/Les Paul/Joe Perry signatures series guitar. That's a mouthful. I'll just stick with Les Paul.

trutina the les paul was never sold to epiphone.. again with history. check out this article fromgibson p.s. orville was long out of the picture by this point. he never saw the construction of one electric guitar. not even the "charlie christian", gibson was a company owned by others at this point, ted mcarty(sp) was the president of gibson in those days, any way have fun

Hey Joe,

Enjoyed your show in Albuquerque. This was the first time my fiancee and I saw you. We drove from Arizona with her parents for the event. It was well worth it. On the return home, we were detoured for six hours due to ice, snow, fog and a sixty car pile up on I-40. We are ready and willing to do it all again if you come back to the area. We hope to get to meet you someday or catch a pick to add to our Satriani music room. Thanks again for an awesome performance.

death cube K: Relax man, the Orville reference was a joke. Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers. I could have sworn that Les Paul had designed the guitar from start to finish, but apparently not. If memory serves me, he designed something for Epiphone, so that must be where I got my wires crossed. I don't know. But thanks for the link, even it was after I admitted defeat.
