OCPS470 - Yeah man, I seriously dig your tunes. The melodies are so damn good and the backings are very textured and well produced. You're like the melodic, more chord progressive version of Christian Alsing. Alsing seriously rocks too, he's gotta be my top 5 guitarists of all time.

Everyone should check out Oliver Chris Peters (OCPS470) when they get the chance.

Man I gotta start writing some full songs and find a way to record them because my demos are just becoming disgraceful. So is my playing. Eugh.

Hey Joe, you did a show in Tuscon, AZ a day or so ago and you stopped off at a radio station and played "Stary Night". My friend Tim was there and met you along with his brother-in-law who was a D-jock at the station. QUESTION: What guitar was that you had? Its a JS, but I've never seen that finish on any of your guitars before. Is it new or one that's been sitting in your vault for a long time? Did one of your sisters paint it?

Matt- I see where your going but, the thing I think your missing is that a Gibson "Les Paul" or "Les Paul"SG is a Sig. model of the man who started it all when it comes to SOLID-BODY GUITARS, which BTW is what SG stands for.

Back in the 50's nobody believed in Les Pauls vision that a guitar didn't have to have a hollow body to sound good so he came up with this idea of building a guitar that had removeable hollow body wings, with the center portion of the guitar being a solid chunk of wood with two pick-ups.

Les would play this guitar having the listeners believing that he or she was hearing what looked to be a f-hole hollow body guitar, then to their surprise he would pull the wings off this guitar revealing what Les called "the Log". When everyone heard how good "the Log" sounded it convinced the Gibson people to give Les's idea a shot.

Even though the idea of a solid body guitar didin't catch on right away and Gibson stopped major production of the Les Paul Signature model after only two years '58 and '59 because of poor sales, it wasn't long before peolple like Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, and Joe Walsh discovered the monster tone and sustain of this new style of guitar and the rest is history.

So what I'm trying to say here Matt(along with a little bit of history) is anybody elses signature model of a "Les Paul" or "Les Paul" SG, is a signature model of a guitar that is already a signature model.

Now if someone other than Joe were to play a JS-series Ibanez and they were to become real famous maybe they could get their own signature model of a JS-series guitar?

death cube -- heh you're diggin deep to justify yourself. as we know it today, a lespaul is more like a style of a guitar...not a signature model :) just like a fender strat is a strat...but a js...is a js...nothing else by Ibanez has the exact same shape and has a different name exists...thus it's an exclusive signature model..like the jem...can't get them brand new with otu the grip...sure, body looks like an RG..but the grip and vine fretboard make it a jem....using those guitars in live shows will automatically link you up...this doesnt mean it's impossible...just means it's impossible to be TOTALLY original when using a guitar that someone else already made famous....a SIGNATURE guitar that somenoe already made famous :)

To add to the comment above...I HIGHLY doubt Ibanez would ever branch off a signature of a signature...

BUFFY20:

Nice to hear you'll be coming to NC. I'm guessing your fiancee is going to be stationed at Seymour Johnson? Anyway, Joe has, in the past played at the Ritz in Raleigh (which is where I'm at-lived here all of my 23 years). He played there during the CP tour, and more recently, the G3 2000 tour. He also played the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach on the EOC tour, a show which I caught. HOB is a far better venue to see a show at if you have the chance, but I'll take a Joe show anywhere, even at a less-than-perfect venue.

If you have any other questions about Joe shows or NC in general, feel free to email me at paclifto@unity.ncsu.edu. We'll be glad to have you here in NC.

Mr.King in 50 years from now(thats about how old the Les Paul is) I HIGHLY doubt there won't be 2 or 3 signature model's of a JS-series guitar if indeed Ibanez is still around. Now quit being hard headed about the whole thing and adimt that a Les Paul standard is a Signature model.

matt king: "do you see where i'm going with this?!"

hey man, not all of us get sponsered by a guitar company so we can eventually have them make us our own guitar..if we wanna play a signature series guitar, whip fucking dee, by all means let's play one...you can't tell me you're just going to toss your js gutiar aside and play your bmc and forget you own a js guitar...the only reason people have signature series guitars is because they've used company x's guitar for a whole wack number of years...

sure it'd look funny..but i think it'd be cool if say vai came out on stage with an angus young sg..that'd rule...signature series are just made by the company to get more money..that's all, it's not a law that you can't use one to become famous...

and just remember, joe never had an ibanez js when he started tearin it up...

so in regards to your comment "do you know where i'm going with this?!" (i don't mean to be rude) but i think you're just being an ass like me and raising hell out of boredom because you're tired of playing guitar

Matt-I am with you on a lot of things, but I have to chime in.No 2 ways about it, the Les Paul is a signature model.Pretty much since I started guitar, I have seen this mentioned many a time.I have even read it said "Lots of people forget, Les Paul is a person, and A les paul guitar is his signature model.", and I believe Eddie Van Halen has laughed about the same thing in an interview many moons ago.

I have seen countless players, from Kirk Hammet(a petrucci model) to Jerry Cantrell(a Ernie Ball gold top EVH model) using different signature models. What about the Chet Atkins Nylon?TONS of people use that one.Brian Setzer owned and played a Chet atkins Gretsch for many moons, proudly.I have read that Joe used Al Dimeola model Pickups long ago, and that some girl guitarist(Shannon...Curfmen?something like that) uses a Vai Bad horsie wah.Try naming in one post how many pros play either a 5150 or a Carvin Legacy amp.Try :D

using a signature guitar is no different then a pro athlete using someone elses signature Bike, Snowboard, or whatever.

I have seen people playing a Jem at a gig, and afterwards when I talk to them, they have no idea who Vai is.Ive seen performances for awards shows, or r&b type music, and often notice that the guitar player, usually barely visible on the stage, is playing some sort of signature model.

I personally laugh when people dismiss signature models as a serious choice for an instrument.

If someone begins playing a stratocaster because Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, or Eric Clapton play one, how is that better than someone playing a Petrucci guitar because petrucci plays it?

My uncle almost bought a Holdsworth Carvin. He has never, and probably will never, heard holdsworth, and cant even seem to pronounce his name right.

Chris Brooks, a sick player, and very much a Pro level player, plays a Petrucci guitar.Petrucci isn't even a huge influence of his, he just likes the guitar, and he got a good deal on it.

i am not trying to come down on you Matt, I like your work, and I don't want this to burn a bridge, cool?

I just really, really disagree :D

....and I play a Jem, lol.I don't play it because Vai is my favorite player(because he isn't, as much as I like him), I play it because I like the guitar, and haven't found anything else that suits me.BELIEVE ME, I have tried. If a PRS, or Anderson, or Brian Moore did it for me, that is what I would play, in a second.Because pink pickups look STUPID. :D

MegaBoyd: Does this help.... JOE is intense!!

matt king: The whole thing about this Sig. Series issue....Is there really a guitar that you can "design" with IBY or another Manufacturer that hasn't already been made?? Sure it's cool to get an RG and hotrod it with SD pup's etc., but everyone is doing that already....As with Brian Moore....They are trying to get some big names using them and then they will have a Sig. Series (if they don't already)....You used the JS to get as close to JOE's sound as you could....Nothing is wrong with that, and I can see why you wanted to change guitar's to seperate you from "looking" too much like JOE....That's kuul, but, I also see nothing wrong with "looking" too much like JOE either....That being said, maybe like Korn and the Universe, you can modify the JS with your own "personal touch", as in a unique paint job or something like that....IBY has too many Sig's, and it's easier to go looking for other companies to find your own look.... Nothing is wrong with that either....People tend to be more worried about their image than what they are actually portraying anyway....I care more about someones playing ability and tone than do I care about what he/she play's.... And if they play IBY, then that's even cooler, lol, no disrespect bro.... ;-)

Hi Naty....All fine on the home front :-)

Later and Peace all, /\/\ike

"Because pink pickups look stupid" That's awesome Ethn. lmao. I, again, concur on the sig series guitars. If Joe played my Les Paul, he'd still sound like Joe. If I played Joe's guitar, I'd still sound like me. And of all the sig series guitars out there, I can't think of a better choice for someone to play than a JS. I mean, it's as versatile a guitar as I'd ever want. If I had my own "Trutina Series of Balance Guitar" it would be a JS1000 with extras. Like a piezo, a Roland synth pickup, Fernandes Sustainer, natural walnut finish, telescoping back scratcher, drink holder and water bong. Ibanez has yet to get back with me on this though.

If you talking about guitars makinng people sound like each other, then you are right, no matter what guitar you play you will sound like yourself, remember when joe played Brian May's rig, " to be Brian May", but no he sounded like himself, you will always aound like yourself no matter what,

I do know that Matt King is considered a joe Clone, & has been told by many people that his songs sound like joes, well yeah when he was a bit younger he messed around with Dive bombs & alot of other "Joe" techniques, but hey the dude has put out, many songs that sound nothing like joe, & people still call him a joe clone, I mean please are these people really listening to the music here, I know Matt has great Tunes that Are his, own, & I will respect Him for wanting to be Himself, he is working hard to be MAtt & some people don't see it, but I wish Him Luck in being himself, I wish Everyone Luck In being themselves no matter what they play, I mean in this world of music it, Is about music anways, not image, So I don't care what your using, I just wanna hear what your fingers are doing, no matter what Gear you got, Some Things Never Change, But Hey I respect people For Being themSelves no matter What.............
