Hi everyone. The answer to the guitar debate is 42.

Narface - What website are you looking at? The BTB is only available in some countries, so it won't show up on a website if it's not available in that area.

Jstrat57 - I have a Fender Stu Hamm Urge II bass and it's not too "custom" at all. It can do everything. It has 24 frets and a J/P/J pickup combination, with a knob and a switch so you can come up with any sound that you can dream of. I love it. I bought it because I love Stu's style of music, yes, but I also bought it because I'll be able to create all kinds of spiffy tones with it.
gleed - No hard feelings... :-)
ovation1 - That's a cool picture.

...Austin...

Austin: 42?!? I had 38.5 dammit. I will never understand this new math.

Jamming a little Beck right now. Got inspired and started playing my Strat. Haven't really played it for 2 years now. I think the songs I've been recording have been missing that single coil tone, now that I hear it again. Gonna have to write a new tune.

death cube K: The God of Boldness evidently has deemed your words worthy. You should be proud.

phew!! that was a lot of posts to go through! i had to read over 20 pages!

I missed the Joe chat at guitar-guitar.com but i'm not too pissed about it, particularly since everyone has had such negative comments concerning it. hope Joe does something like that again soon and it works out well.

the great debate--- signature guitars eh? I feel that I have to throw in my own 2 cents. I myself play a JS1000 and have no qualms playing one. It's a great guitar and I don't see how it would affect me if i was a professional musician. I'm sure you'll be able to make it big as long as you have talent.

Look at how many modern day bands use PRS guitars into Mesa/Boogie amps and have this heavy, scooped-mids sound? they sound really similar and this hasn't affected their popularity. So even if you sound anything like Joe it probably won't matter. Also, most people listening to your music probably don't know and don't care what equipment you are using. just because i have the same taste as someone famous doesn't mean i'm not original.

just my own opinion.

p.s. i also use a jap DS-1 and a marshall amp.. really guilty of being a joe clone :) but i like what i do.

Hey did y'all know Les Paul invented multitrack recording? Where would music be if it wasn't for him?

DCK email me your address and I'll stick some sample CDs in the mail... you too Matt (plugins for Sonar)

anuj - yeah I agree that Shine don't sound like an LP... I wondered if anyone in here would have known to confirm or refute this... Also, I'm really not that familiar with the sound of an LP with soap-bars.. I have a rough idea of how they sound but I couldn't just hear one on a record and know it straight away... lack of familiarity I guess...

Plum - My youngest son is insulin dependent and has been since the age of 2 so I'm pretty familiar with hypers and hypo's.. sounds to me like you have exactly the opposite of diabetes... which is I should imagine more dangerous as your body creates too much insulin.. As a wild guess, I wonder if a side effect of this that the lack of glucose thins out the blood a little.. Could this 'thinner blood' be making the blood pressure lower?.. Diabetics get the reverse where too much glucose in the blood stream makes it real thik.. this triggers the thirst mechanism and makes them drink like crazy... I don't know I'm not a doctor... I think you should go see one...

Eating sweets does not cause diabetes....

Sig Model Debate - my biggest and only beef is that many sig models are way over priced.. why avoid sig models for fear of sounding like someone else... if it's a great guitar then it is a great guitar... real tone is in the fingers and the soul...

If Vai played through an ES335 he'd sound exactly like Vai...

If I played through one of Satch's Chromeboys I'd just exactly like me..

The reason for me not to buy any JS model is because I don't like any of them...

This argument is bizaar... If I played the Ibanez 'Geezer Down the Pub' sig and it turned out to be the finest thing I've played then I'd have no prob getting one... so that I can play just like me on a real nice guitar....

Stu not Boo - Sorry dude... without actually hearing it I've no idea....
ovation - I got Angra - Hunters and Prey... I've only heard a few tracks so far... very cool band indeed... there are even a few little moments that wouldn't be out of place in early 70's prog.. now that is very cool....

I think that the essence of prog has been lost... a riff in an unusual time sig is not prog to me... neither is it prog because it is ultra complex... Angra seem to have something closer to the real thing that many of their modern peers... including DT

Clarky: Yo' man you have ANGRA!! lol, I knew you'd like it.... There are many moment's of brilliance in their music, and it is a shame that a group like that has not been in the mainstream like DT has....The thing that I like most in their music is their power ballads!! I have yet to hear a group make better ones.. Their new singer is awesome and they deserve some credit!! BTW, when I pickup MegaBoyd's "SBM", I will look around for some trad. Oki. music to send your way for inspiration :-)

SILMARIEN - Roll with the punches. If you don't bend with the wind you break ;-)

DRAGONCHILD - lmao.

DCK - Can't argue with the Les Paul debate dude.

ETHN - Hey, I like my pink pickups, it show's i'm in touch with my feminine side 8-)

OVATION - ROFL, If it's an Iby it's DEFINITELY cooler (no offence)

TRUTINA & CLARKY - A long time ago, when i hadn't been playing too long but already had the Jem, we had just finished band practise when a friend of the vocalist walked in. Now i'd been playing all evening with a shit sound (as usual) despite a Jem, a JCM 800 and a Boss ME5 (that dates it for you). This guy says mind if i play your Jem, no attitude about it, picks it up and starts blasting out Malmsteen type shreds. Before he started he tweaked some effect on the ME5 and it sound great, like i never could. For years i thought that it was in the effects but later when i could actually play a bit better i realised exactly what you two were saying. It's amazing just how much player input does effect the guitar sound really, and i think that is one of the hardest things to get over when you first start playing.

MEGABOYD - Right on man, be yourself! I know that some of Matt's stuff sounds like Joe but that's got to happen to anyone. There is so much access to music and so many people playing that you can't help but be influenced by what you listen to / understand the best. CLARKY's backing is so classical in places but nobody slates him for sounding like Beethoven (no offence paul). And on the other hand, while i think that DCK and PHRYDOM both have really 'original' sounds that's only my perspective, original is only in the ear of the beholder. What it really means is that you haven't been subjected to the same influences. Everybody is influenced by everything around them, that's why we are all different and therefore all ourselves. I AM BECOME ME ! ;-)

lol woa!! :) people, I'm not trying to flame up wwIII here on t2j haha I do understand that fact that the les paul is indeed a signature model, but more these days, it's more a standard model, that's the only point I was making!! :) As for other signature models, I agree...play what is comfortable!! BUT, would you really wanna be promoted with it? That's just the point I was trying to make lol my own opinion on it...and my own advice!! hehe I'm not going to force feed it on anyone!!

Invigor, heh that was just a dumb comment...ANYONE can get a custom guitar from Brain Moore guitars...

Sorry Matt, just got the wires crossed :D

Just a friendly(pseudo, hehe) debate, that's all.No hard feelings, right?

I think I understand where you are coming from.

And actually, I plan on begging Vai to let me have my own variation on the Jem produced.I like the neck, hehe.I suppose I would have the monkey grip drilled in my own copy of my signature guitar anyways if he didn't give me the go ahead, hehe.Just so used to that stupid grip.

He has said he would like the Jem to have it's own life apart from being associated with him (Im paraphrasing here), so I see it being possible. It makes sense, the guitar doesn't say Vai anywhere on it, unless you get the 10th. I might have to wait till he dies though.

JUST KIDDING, btw!

I don't want Vai to ever die, lol.
