Hey Joe,

I've been playing the guitar for about 9 years and have been playing in many studios in Los Angeles. I play football at the University of Memphis and I'd like to thank you for all of the cool you music you put out. You introduce a lotta cool techniques that help guitar players to get better. Keep doing what you do and hopefully you'll be coming to play at Memphis sometime so I can see you in concert.

Keep Rockin'

Bobby G.

Stu Clone - I thought the bassline was good. How come you guys didn't just use the track you overdubbed?

700? Hm, didn't notice. There's always something to talk about on T2J.

Matt - What are your practice routines like. I'm wondering cause when i'm listening to all of your latest demos, it's like your style is ready to change but isn't getting the little jump it needs. I'm not sure. It's the kind of thing that brought out some really nice instrumentals earlier on but now to my ears, it's sounding a little less fresh. I can't quite put my finger down on how to describe it. Your songs basically are written from a progression you write, then a lead you throw on, them some drums and bass are added into the mix. Not that it's a problem but as you follow the same writing process, the songs are coming out in the same way. The songs have this similar feel to all of them. Very space agey mystical kinda sounding stuff. The chords tend to have this complex articulation and the melodies are quite bouncy. It has developed your style but i'm thinking there are new boundaries you have to push with the style you will maintaining and other styles you will incorporate. I'm typing as I think here. I remember when your iuma site only had 3 or 4 mp3's on it and you sent me JS covers through AIM. I have to listen more to describe more. Maybe i've already described it? I don't know. Blah blah bllaaaah.

Austin, sorry it took me so long to reply. Just bogged through 7 pages. I still don't know who the bass player is. I don't even know if they know! lol! Oh yeah, would you please send me the chat transcript ~shelly@retardsrule.com. I'd appreciate it :)

Cleetus, glad to hear your kitty is doing better.

Peace**

js clone (rich) - I do agree with parts of what your're saying, and def do appreciate the advice and feedback! I am more of a chordal writer...and most of my melodies are the first take of improvising I do over. I then go back and do it again in a more refined fashion...and take it from there. My style is REALLY simple, but it's kinda the way I want it. Most instrumentalists these days, in my opinion, complicate songs too much! They focus more on incorporating techniques and other tools of performance...does it make a cool tune? Yes it does, but I'm more into the soulful side of it I suppose. I breathe with the music as best I can...I don't like having to catch my breath hehe :) I'm a very simple person, and i think I'm offering simple instrumental rock in a decent way! I'm sure in time, my style will evolve... ;)

btw, WOW -- we made someone's infamous song of the day lsit!! :) Now THAT is quite honorable :)

JSclone1: I've been meaning to ask you, is there something in the water in Toronto, Ontario Canada? I keep seeing all of these killer guitar players that are from that very place.

Death Cube K: I almost cried and sinaltaneously soiled myself when I saw the comment about the pod. Just kidding. I hate the pod too, but I like the podpro. I do have to say though, you have to do a lot of tweaking. I get great sounds out of it by doing weird things like mixing a Soldano with a fender 1x12 cab. If I were to get a tube amp what would you recommend? I'm contemplating a fender prosonic, Vai Legacy, a Soldano preamp, and possibly the Cornford hurricane. What do you think?

matt king: i disagree with you, you are not simple..your style is not simple.

you're complex and incorporate funny modes and stuff into your pieces...simple it up and somethin new and cool will happen...take chords of life for example..he started it off simple and look how it turned out...

i was having a discussion with clone1 about prettty much his whole post (pre posting) and i figure you should try a song starting off with just power chords and see what happens..i'm sure you could do something deadly with it, you've definately got the talent and the know how to do it...and you're 19, you can't have the style you want...you need to expannnnnnd..like you said about trancy music, you strayed from it because you didn't want all your songs to sound the same...well it's not trance but it all sounds the same...so man, do me a favor and try something simple. :) then maybe i can jam along to it without too too much difficulty

DeathCube, thanks for the info about the guitar contest, but if I'm up against guys like Matt, there's no way I'd win! lol It's nice to know you think I got the potential to compete in a competition like that though, thanks. Besides, I'm not the competitive type when it comes to my guitar, I just enjoy playing for the sake of playing :)

MATT: Does the 6100 have a good lead channel by itself(no dist pedals)? I like a lead tone that sounds fluid with no grit or buzz (especially in the bridge position) like the tone I used on "Funky Munky."

I was just listening to the clips of the finalists for the guitar competition that DCK posted, and it was really cool to hear the myrid styles that were represented. They had guys that were more legato, guys that were more tremelo picking in nature, as well as blues, progressive, and jazzy styles. That's the thing that makes guitar superior to any other instrument, there are just so many more ways to express yourself on the instrument.

JSC1, There were troubles with the initial demo... The first demo I got sent wasn't the final version of the song: it had just a few things about it that made it impossible to overdub a single bass track and let it through to subsequent versions. The idea is the same, but just a few things changed about the character of the song from one demo to the next that couldn't be ignored (like this one part where the song changed form and went to a diff. progression, later taken out. so the track couldn't be used) I'm very happy w/ how the track came out though, and I know I'll have a lot of fun putting some life into that bass track j/k matt! excellent job! : ) I think there'll be a lot of fun stuff in the future of this collaboration (I feel like I'm giving a press release where I have to make it all suspensful...!)

We're still bouncing ideas off of each other and hopefully I'll get some time over my upcoming one week break to record the hell out of my crusty old strings. ewww...

Phrydom: the closest you'll get to a true remix is the very rare ultradisk II signals master cd. these are about 25-30 bucks a pop, but they are mastered straight from the original master tapes in the studio thus each copy is an actual "master copy". private record shops usually are the best bet. just thought i'd tell ya. p.s. you can recognize these by the 24 karat gold plating of the disk. i knew i was missing something.
