LGU89 Welcome back. I was wondering where you'd gone, just about to post to ask if anyone knew. COmputers are annoying.
Clarky SU37s are cool. I saw one on telly at Farnborough airshow, and it can do a back somersault on it's own axis in midair!

Clarky I'd have thought that would have been an SR-71 (or maybe the americans would never reveal stats about them.) BTW, all our tornadoes are knackered and can't fly as fast as when they first came out. A guy working on one told me on a visit to conningsbe with the ATC. Also, when you eject, you experience forces or either 23 or 27 G (I can't remember) and after 3 ejections, the RAF don't allow you to fly again.

It's raining right now...I love that sound.
Mr Nick - Learning about EQ stuff isn't that hard. It's probably very intimidating at first, but you should still try to learn it.
guitarcake - Happy Birthday. Let us know what guitar you get.
The Nose of Sauron - There aren't too many bassists here. At the moment, I can only think of Stu Clone, MegaBoyd, and myself. I'm sure most guitarists here play bass...I just don't know who they are right now. ;-)
LGU89 - Welcome back...I was wondering what happened to you...hehe.

Hello Joe, first of all i`d like to say i`m a big fan of your music, I was introduced to your music by hearing the Top Gun Anthem. A lot of years passed and I didn`t even knew it was you playing the guitar until one day a friend of mine was hearing the C.D where that song is included and he said: " That sounds like Joe Satriani, after that I looked for your music and bought the live concert in San Francisco and I was in awe of all the fabulous techniques you use in the guitar.
I wanted to ask you, I have been assembling a set of BOSS effect pedals and I just love that one you use that has a very Hendrix sound, which pedal is that? does BOSS manufacture it?

Nick - here's what I hear:
key - this is something you need to take a good look at... when you break into some improvised licks it is as though you are not fully aware of the key that you're supposed to be in at the time.... learn the chord proggressions to the backing track first... work out the key of the chord proggression.. when you are fully aware of this then make sure that you have the fingerings down for the scales that you'll be using...
This way, when you play a note, it'll be a good one every time... in many places you drifted from key pretty seriously... dont worry... with a little work this is easily repaired.....
timing - appart from the tapping which is mostly ok, the timing is ragged in places... learn the track slower first... pay attention to detail... if you make too many errors then it is still too fast.... when it goes well, increase the tempo little by little... your technique will grow much healthier this way....
Sorry dude.... I will not lie to you... but I will always offer you ideas which can help you to improve...
I know this dont sound encouraging... but stick with it....

Nick - that's a top attitude bro.... think of tempo as a weight lifter thinks of kilo's... you start with something you can manage easily.. when you are happy that everything is just so and within your ability, you add a little more to the bar and start again... often, you dont really notice things improving... but then when you listen to old reordings of yourself, you can get quite startled as to how much you've improved... dont erase old recordings... they are your 'benchmark' against which you can measure your progress.....

Happy Birthday to the birthday people!
The studio should be up and running within a fornight guitarcake... any time after that mate :-)
thanks /\/\ike ;-)
guitarman08 Joe didn't play the Top Gun anthem, that's Steve Stevens. And the Hendrix sound pedal is a Fulltone Ultimate Octave. Hope this helps!
Hope you're all having a good weekend... later! Dave

Joe "does it" by having "extreme" patience... I'm sure when Joe is working out ideas it might not be perfect (to him anyway) but that doesn't stop him from attaining his goal...
I think what happens to you is that you sometimes are too critical to the task at hand at too early a development as a guitar player... learn to relax at what you are doing and let the good vibes flow... a more relaxed approach can make a recording work much better... if you're excited it might cause you to make more mistakes than normal... & you get down on yourself because of it... don't think of deadlines, or what the people around you think... just play and be free with it... The creative process goes at a different pace for everyone...
Take a look at Tom Scholz of Boston, amazing guitar player but the life that guy has had through his music is enough for anyone to pack it in... so many delays, freak accidents, legal issues, band members quiting, ruined recordings...
but patience prevailed...
Boston just came out with their official 5th album and the 1st one came out back in 1976 so there you have it, it's not how fast you create... music creation is ageless... Patience...
I've been playing guitar for 13 years now (there's that number again, sorry Joe... it's my fault) & I still FUBAR things, but I don't let it bother me... I play for the sheer enjoyment of it... I know darn well I'm not going anywhere special with it... maybe 10 years ago I wanted to but regardless if I'm a better player now, I have fun jamming, recording, and just simply making some noise with it...

clarkly and mick87..i have kept all my recordings (apart from 1 or 2 maybe). i think thats where i fell down on when i recorded summer song for the ACM. when i play along to the track, i think yeah its going well, but then, record it, eugh...sounds horrible. with always, its better, but not as good. i think with the acm,. they would of picked up on that, and thats why they put me on the diploma course, and not the higher diploma. so.
i will work at always next week, starting slowly on monday, and hopefuly be friday, i should of improved in timing and acuracy, but tomorow, i'll look at the song since i wont be online.
thanks for the advice, i really need it :)
