Musicians - Haven't been here for a while, so excuse me if I missed the answer to this question somewhere...Does anyone have any CDs available to buy via online? I have a hard time actually downloading a lot of songs, since my pc is well, sh*t. If not I guess I will have to wait for the boxed set of the T2J album ;).

Speaking of T2J, I was going to contribute something a while back, but was unable to produce my idea....well just yesterday I spent about 4 hours tweaking this idea that just came into my head. It should be ready for the next T2J album if there is one :). I just need to buy myself a better sound card.

I'd actually have to thank people here like Matt King and Clarky for all the little tips and music theory they talk about. I always had problems creating good solos over a rhythm track, because I felt limited. Both of you guys (and possibly others here at T2J) had said something along the lines of, "Don't play chords to go with a scale, play scales that go over the chords". It has helped me a lot, especially with the piece that I just mentioned. (For pure self indulgence I am going to type the chord progressions I used, let me know if anything is musically incorrect).

At first I used a small classical guitar piece, that I made up about three months ago, which uses the chords (in this order)

Am, G --> G / C , F#m --> F#m add D (whatever chord that is, I guess it is a D since when I play it I neglect to play the C#), E ---> Esus4. All these chords I played arpeggiated into a sort of rhythm track.

Now to me this progression could fit no scale that I could think of, except maybe D or A Major. But I could not explain the A minor. Anyhow, the solo over that progression ended up being modes that stemmed from A Major, sounded pretty good at the end of it all (I purposely did not play a G# over the G major chord)

After this progression I was in a freaky mood and decided to use a diminished scale, while still using A minor, so I went with this progression.

Am, F#dim, G#dim. I got this from the melodic minor scale, and actually ended up playing the G#diminished scale, with my root being A, over the whole thing. From here I went to Am natural, using this progression:

Am, F, G, C. I just arpeggiated these chords and didn't use a solo, since the thing had enough in there as is and I just needed a connector between my diminished mood and the end theme (which is the same as the beginning).

All in all I am pretty proud of myself, it was almost a musical revelation to me, since I actually used what I learned here it made a lot more sense than just reading the words.

ovation - dude when I get around to it, maybe I shoud send you a full set of compositional footnotes to accompany each track.. what everything means and all of the creational ideas blow by blow... mowlie - to confirm.. if this works then I owe you beers up to and including being sick... lol

greg - so all of a sudden I owe everyone beer???... shit this is like a virus... lol
Lyz - this is an awesome thing to find out... it's so nice when enlightenment suddenly hits you.. like all of a sudden being able to see through the fog...

If ever you get to a section where there is a key / chord change and you are unsure of how to handle it... isolate it.. make a little backing track of just that change... nice and slow too... first put pen to paper, do the math and work out the options.. then find out where everything is on the neck... noodle with it until you are comfotable and then add it to the rest of the track and play it as a whole...

This way you are not distracted by the complete song and can focus your attention to a specific detail...

Hi Joe! I just came across this site & had to join it! Very nicely done, and plenty of cool info & areas to explore here. I caught you on the Rockline internet broadcast, on 3/12, that was AWESOME!!!! Can you go into more detail about your inclusion in that mix? The song Vertigo was mesmirizing, to say the least. I see that on July 19th Sammy Hagar & Journey are playing a festival in Chicago IL. I was curious as to whether Planet US might do anything there, since Sammy, Deen & Neil will already be there that night? You guys sounded like you've been playing together for a long time already, I can't wait to get another listen! Thankx, RedRandy

Plum Loco and JS Clone 1

Hey guys and thanks for the help!! I managed to get it working this morning (uk time). I've been away from the board for a bit, could you tell me if the T2J tracks are still being accepted? It's just that now I have the capability (and sorely needed drum loops :)), I'm finally able to contribute with hopefully a half decent track. Thanks again.

Blow by Blow and Blue Dream are both really excellent albums, but Blue Dream is better. The title track is my favourite Joe song.

PhryDom - Okay, cool. I'll get one or two from my school and then maybe I can try to get one from Hollywood this weekend. I'll let you know.

kell - That is an awesome car. I love Corvettes, so I usually have to have a dislike for Fords because they make the Mustang. ;-) But the one you posted looks cool...actually very similar to a Corvette in some ways.

This should be a fun topic. Everyone post a link to a picture of your favorite car. This is mine.

brymstone - I think the T2J deadline is March 31st, so you still have a few days.
GroupTherapy2 - As far as I know, there won't be a G3 2001 DVD. I think some of JP's G3 stuff is on the DVD version of his Rock Discipline instructional video, though.
