crushing day I think he is doing that, isn't he. Not having heard anything of JP outside of DT, my opinion is that it's good for him to be in a big band, otherwise he may just shred. Listening to LSFNY, though, he is a very fine guitarist, and his solo with Theresa Tomasen is extremely tastful.

alexandre I want one of those!

clarky Nice bio. I may get around to buying some crimson stuff sometime (My mum has an old lp of Islands, which is in parts great and boring. Did you have those duncan humbuckers in the strat at the time of the photo? Ooh yeah, do you think it would be easier to adapt to 7 stringers if you've spent most of your time playing a classical with a big fat neck?

crispin The only live Joe stuff I have is G3, and I reckon that Cool#9 is 100 mllion times better than the original (which is a very good song in itself) and Summer Song is amazing too. Sadly, my local shop hasn't had time machine or lisf in for months.

Hands up if you think Gibson guitars are overpriced Someone at school seems to think he's better than me 'cos he's got an SG. He's one of those really thick people, who only just realised I play guitar, and who'se never heard of satch or vai (I mean, you've at least got to be aware of them, haven't you?)

Who here thinks that the double pointy headstocks on bc rich warlocks are form over function and pointless?

ovation - I have the package... thanx bro... I took a look through the pics of Okinawa... so your job 'makes' you live there... a sub-tropical island in the Pacific, gorgious beaches, great climate, amazing scenery, rich in history and culture, full of babes and an indigenous lager at 5.0%.... you total bastard... lol lol... this is just not fair... lol lol

I checked out the CD... like all Japanese art.. very minimal but very beautiful too.. my problem is that I can hear too many ways of handling this track... I have way too many options.. having thought on it though, I think I'll go for the atmosphere vibes [as you suggested]. I prefer the very slow staff to the fast... I like the space.. it's very interesting that although the over-riding tonality is major, it has a quality that is almost slightly sad.. maybe that's my western ears... I can reporduce the vocal ornamentaion on the whammie bar.. it sounds very nice indeed... the most interesting part is the way the melody is phrased.. I really would like to try to maintain this when I write the track... to be completely authentic wouldn't sound right on the guitar so I'll not try... I will however try to capture the essence of the Ryukyu islands..

I already have my mental images to write to....
I see a master kneeling on soft grass at the top of a high rocky cliff overlooking the ocean. He sits in the shade of a tree in blossom.. the sun is raising so the sky is yellow and orange.. the ocean is calm and still.. the master is deep in meditation.. the picture is very calm and very soft.. but never frail for there is an underlying strength - which does not need to be demonstrated, but it is there none the less, well known and understood too... the mood is atmosperic and relective to depict the state of meditation. The melody is largely in Okinawan style. The tone will be strong but used in a delicate manner to try to capture the underlying strength.

This I can hear in my head.... and if I can capture it I'll be very happy.. it's very very beautiful... not too sure how to get this to tape yet but I'll try to find a way....

Awesome stuff....

Hi Satch!
I am waiting with much expectation its show here in Rio de Janeiro.
When we will be together in aftershow (I believe thus), I want to be able to give a hand shake. Also to take off some photos.
Ah, if it does not forget the guitar that asked for to it, ok? It will not be difficult for you.

God bless you!

Nice new name, Akikolovekiss Do you like vai as well, then?

To anyone who may be viewing this forum who doesn't have Steve Vai's Passion and Warfare: Get it now. No other instrumental rock album even comes close to this one. I'm not sure about any other rock album full stop. Get it.

Yeah, well, on finding I played guitar he said, "I bet you'e s***" (because I don't like rubbishy stuff on the radio and the poo which passes for rn'b which gets played in my electronics class. He then asks what guitar I've got and how much did it cost, and I say a classical Yamaha cg100msa for 150 and an electric esp ltd h302 for 700 (both were slight reductions) and he says "I win, because I've got an SG". This sort of thing can happen quite a bit at my school, seeing as loads of people are posh. An electronics teacher who is a fantstic guitarist (used to be a session musician) runs a blues club on fridays (I would go but I've just been dropping everything I used to do because of A levels) and he told me that all the other guitarists have better guitars than he does, but a lot of them are s***. C'est la vie.

Nick Damn, I'm in a boat on the Broads on Easter Sunday - no telly for me.

The question I have to ask myself is, will 5 more weeks of maths lessons prepare me to take an A level in the stuff?

Crispin Oh well, How about just when I've finished my exams at the end of June, I learn a Vai song by then, and email it to him (I'll find out his adress) and he can dwell on it and look at his own miserable playing. With those people, it helps me to think of playing the crap out of them one day with a rubbish, and see what they feel like then with their prs or whatever.

One story I like is of a tramp playing violin on the street, and he wasn't making any money, and then this other guy comes up to him, asks to borrow his violin, and starts playing for him. More and more people gather around, because this new guy is really good, and they all start putting money in the tramp's hat. THe other guy finishes playing, gives the tramp his violin back, and walks off. Only then do the people realise the violinist's striking resemblance to Paganini..............
