invigor and mowlie..i have him still on my msn still....he's always still there for me.

harryDan..compose music in a way you like the best. for me, its good old pen and paper, cant beat it, write what you like how you want. although having a recorder of some kind is usfull to put down riffs or phrases to help you remember them. Guitarists in general use Tab...its alot easier to read than standard notation. standard notation only gives you the notes, not where those nores are on the guitar, which tab does. tab is short for tablature in case you dont know.

Well, sorry about the Nick sandwich, but I just wanted to report a bug in the t2j site:

When you click a name in the "tracks" list, it takes you to bios.html instead of bios.php, which means you are transported to the old version of the site where there's no shop and no updates etc.

AVARICE How's that old Woolworths strat getting on?

trutina Wow, looking at that old t2j, and realising ow many of the people around now were on it then, makes me feel like the internet virgin I really am. Just think, all those people with seemingly low post totals were posting loads of stuff way before I was on here. I see that AVARICE got a bit of a pasting when he first turned up, though. I see we've learned to live with him now. So just a sec, AVARICE is a friend of clarky's, and he used to be called vai's brother in law, and he suggested that paul name his guitars after the 7 deadly sins, and then he changed his username to avarice? Right, have I got it now?

Harrydan Learning standard notation is not hard and really useful. If you read a tab, you can end up trying to learn something which is really technically hard and then find out afterwards there is some much easier way of playing it which you would have noticed if you had looked at the standard notation and worked it out yourself. Also, learning using standard notaton can give you a better understanding of the fretboard and of the structure of music, instead of just calling stuff, "that note there". And learning about how music works is really useful f ever you want to write something, or else for learning something by ear, for instance, if you hear someone playing something, you can say, "well, they're using this chord, so they're likely to be usign these notes", as you know more about how the chord is built, instead of just learning the shape of the chord. Finally, if you want to play something on another instrument, the structure of standard notation can be carried across, although be warned, if you play something on a piano, piano music (most music, in fact) is written an octave lower than guitar music is written, but this is just a case of rewriting the notes an octave down.) Has that helped?

Wow, that was a bit of a long post.

Harrydan I know lots of guitarists only read tab, but then lots of guitarists hold their guitar way too low, lots of guitarists fret notes with their thumb without ever giving classical position a try - basically, lots of self taught guys get into bad habbits which they never realise are hindering their playing somewhat. I have lots of bad habbits, but the role of a teacher is to point these out and help you to correct them, and when I try to do stuff properly, I always find afterwards that stuff is much easier than it was before.

Polish International Airways sent it's inaugural 747 flight to JFK under the command of it's two best pilots. Approach Control tells 'em they're cleared onto final and hands 'em off to the tower, but they're sorta struggling with English and sorta missed a word or two, but it was a nice flying day and they decide to just land the airplane.

They get in close to the runway and the left seat hollers "lookit that runway! It's 'way too short! Flaps, gimmee full flaps, reverse thrust, drop the anchor!" and he dumps it on the numbers.

The airplane comes to a screeching halt two feet before the end of the concrete amidst billowing clouds of burning tire and brake smoke. Left seat sez "I don't believe how short this runway is, it's only a cupple hunnert feet long!" Right seat muses, "Yeah, but jeez boss look, it's gotta be 12,000 feet wide".

Dave I thought that Kenny Wayne Sheperd was in the Dukes of Hazard ................. ;-)

JSC1 What does it mean............ In my opinion Rich, it probably means that you've been pushing yourself way to hard and setting unreasonable targets. I know that your hands have given you a real downer, but that's probably a by-product of the targets that you've been setting as well. In short man you've taken all the fun out of it and at the same time probably reached a plateau. You can find the motivation to play live because you enjoy doing that and also because you don't want to show yourself in anything but the best light. Relax man, take sometime away and don't say 'I'm going to play in X weeks'. You'll go back to it when you're ready / you're life is more settled / you've got more time, or whatever. If you don't play for a couple of months it don't matter, when you go back again you'll be relearning what you already know, but maybe from a fresh angle. The important thing is that you will have busted that plateau. I haven't really played for a couple of months 'cos my life's up in the air, and i didn't play for 4 years once. If you can't enjoy it it's not worth doing it. btw you seriously kick my ass already so you can afford to take some time off ! ;-)

Martina I'm sure that you'll do fine in your exams ;-) Good Luck !

Hiram – yep… my Avarice is VBIL, my guitar is called Vim and Alan’s mum’s dead.. lol
Avarice is not a member of my band. The band name was Avarice before VBIL turned up and swiped it for his own mischief. However, over that last two years or so, the connection between Avarice and I has become pretty unbreakable to the point where the are many still to this day believe that I am Avarice and therefore VBIL… I know that I’m not VBIL because I’ve spoken to him on the phone.. So, if VBIL/Avarice is to be my nemesis, then he may as well remain associated to the band - kind of like a ‘bad robot us’… lmao.. From what I know of VBIL, he makes an unusual and interesting friend and a pretty ruthless and relentless enemy

My official site is not yet open.. when it is, I’ll let everyone know the address.

trutina – the whole Avarice scam lasted something like 6 months in total.. the whole string of posts is so worth while reading.. some of the funniest stuff I’ve ever seen..
r6r – FG is a very cool name… I used to be in a band called Hanging Salad… and that’s the truth… So think a little on Vanilla Fudge… lol and those guys made it pretty big too.. lol lol lol
VBIL – bro, there is definitely some mileage to be had from publishing “The Great T2J Swindle”..
