Mick, - thanks for the 'happy anni'... did the usual... got waffie a card and flowers, took her out, ate too much, drank too much... no need to make another fuss over her 'till Xmas... job done.... now where's my guitar... lmao

OCSP - I play with the guitar reasonably high up... the only time I play standing is on stage or when rehearsing... I have a pretty standard playing position when sitting with the guitar - even if that means that I have to place my feet on something to raise them... when I set the strap length, I did it when I was in my optimal seated position so that I can more or less recreate this 'feeling' in the standing position... so for me, sitting and standing are more or less the same playing experience...
ovation - so who are you working for these days, Ibanez or DiMarzio.... lol or maybe a store that sells both... lmao...

No worrie on the Ninja vibes CD... I'm not yet in a position where I need the source material... probably won't be for a few months at least... jeez it'll take take long for me to learn how to play the Raft... I was pretty good back then... lol.. don't you just hate it when you write stuff you can't play, somehow manage to play it, and then have to take it on stage...

"come on guys let's go and see Clarky's gig tonight, it'll be great.. in fact it'll be a real hoot watching him struggle to play his own tunes... you won't have laughed so much since grandma died or auntie Mable caught her left tit in the mangle".... etc...

TheBob - you lose your 'reach' when standing because you wear the guitar too low.

Slash wears his guitar real low to look cool... Led Zep kinda cool... but watch when he needs to shred it a little... he squats low and swings the guitar around so the the neck is almost 90 degress to the floor - like vertical. The effect of this is to straighten the angle between the back to the hand the the upper part of the forearm so the tendons are less extended... he now has a better playing position..

Me? I'd rather wear the guitar at the correct height and not have to worry about my stance... so I have access to everything all the time..

Plum - why dont you make an extra long strap then ----- out of wood ... lol

Michelle - No I am Mick... No denying that allowed ;)... which Mick I am is up to you to decide...

Austin - Funny Stuff...

Jayjo - Steves Music? That's where I bought my guitar... Tell Mike McAvin thanks... even though I bought that thing almost two years ago...

Joe - Um... Hi, anything new?

Edit: Clarky - Miss read your post there... thought you thought you should get a new guitar for taking the misses out to dinner :p... But truthfully, ladies... nothing says "I Love You" more than a brand spankin' new Ibanez, right? lol...

Clarky LOL!!

I got a strap off my dad, he's a real big guy too about 270 pounds and when he played guitar alot he managed to find this one strap that was really long, but that was way back in 1966, he got it with his Harmony guitar... he needed it because the guitar was a hollow body electric, about the size of an acoustic and was probably 4" deep so to accomodate he needed an extra long strap and this one was just long enough when adjusted all the way out... it's the one I still use to this day...

My guitar with the old vintage strap

I try to take real good care of it... it's got a leather backing which helps, the fabric is pretty funky... I like it because you can't find anything like it, and I like old vintage stuff... My Pop used to have one of those curly cords too... wish I still had that... LOL!!

CURLY CORDS FOR G3!!!

My strap annoys me. It is 2 inches thick, so it soryt of makes it a bit harder to have the guitar naturally sit at a steep angle. I've gotta get a thinner strap with shoulder padding sometime. I prefer my standing to sitting position, though. I can have the guitar at a steeper angle. Also, when sitting, the contouring on my guitar is a bit wierd, so my neck points further out in front of my body than I would like.

barry Is the main photo on your iuma site where you are playing guitar taken with your strap at max length?

greg m: yep...

Also... keep that wide strap... the wider the better... you don't want your guitar digging into your shoulder because of a narrower strap regardless of padding or not... it'll cause bruising or worse... it can cause your playing hand to fall asleep and ruin a perfectly good set... it sucks when you are just jamming away and suddenly your left hand just up and kicks the bucket on you... this used to happen to me quite often, I had one narrow one with iguanas all over it embroidered... and all it did was give me aches and pain the whole time I was playing it...

Hey guys I need your help! For the past few day, i've been trying to tackle cool #9. And now, I've got everthing down accept for the part where Joe uses his picking hand and a capo or whatnot(correct me if i'm wrong). I've seen Joe do this in other songs, also, I know Vai is a fan of that little trick. I cant seem to get it down, what exactly are they doing. Thanks for your time.

you mean using it 'as' a capo rather than 'and' a capo?

Yeah it's a string muting thing. Jennifer Batten (for example) uses a string damper for all her double tapping solos so the open strings don't make dumb noises. If you cross your arms over and damp with the picking hand, you can tap a bunch of scales with the other hand, or just make a crazy noise by tapping random triplets up and down the neck, like Joe does on Cool #9.
