Can anyone tell me how Joe hits that really high harmonic or whatever he is doing? he puts his hands above the pickups and does something with the whammy bar. what is he doing? how does he get that killer scream?

Barrie: Hey Man, yeah I'm sure I can get it fixed. Just kind of a bummer that it happened. I hadn't played the guitar in a while, and the first time I pick it up it breaks!!

Death Cube: Ya know, I'm not sure how that happened. Like I said, I was simply adjusting the action. Next thing I know, the post just snapped. Clean break, then the top two strings went limp. I hate to say this, but I don't have a case for the guitar, and I think the elements may have weakened it. That's my only guess.

EJfan,

That's a pinched harmonic/picking harmonic (the term varies from guitarist to guitarist)...

The ESSENTIAL actions going on include: a harmonic being hit, and that harmonic being bent all crazy like.

Think of a twelfth fret harmonic... you're playing it with your left hand fingers, right? Well, what if you could free up your left hand by playing that harmonic with your right hand? The most common technique involves the thumb: It's a much more aggressive picking style where your thumbs acts as that "finger" allowing a harmonic to ring out where you pick. Since the harmonics are so close together in the area where most people would pick, you have a wide choice, and can go for something really insanely high.

I'd suggest starting off with the low E and A strings just to get a handle of the concept.

Don't let what I said confuse you though, your thumb doesn't "let go" of the pick, it just brushes against the string in one motion (kind of like how you can play an open E, and put your finger on the 12th fret and the harmonic will still play).

See, bass players know it, too ;)

greg m - mountain dew was available here in the uk for a bit but then they stopped it. The normal kind's a lemon and lime fizzy drink that's just particularly good. I'm guessing they stopped doing it here cause there's already fanta and tango drinks that are highly popular.

I ONCE MORE VOTE FOR EARL GREY TEA!

Funny I should like this, considering this article which was recently in the Daily Telegraph (I'm going to York, in case people don't know):

UNIVERSITY OF DORK More amusingly odd opinions from York, where last year's freshers were branded both "the dullest in Britain" by a nationwide survey and "the dullest ever" by York Vision student newspaper. Rob Harris, the York Vision editor, tells Juice (a daily Telegraph section): "There are too many physics and leectronics students moving around the place. We need more courses in things like aromatherapy. We should also experiment with free alcohol on university open days. Earlier this year, the paper reported: "Campus bar takings are in crisis while attendance at lectures has never been higher." It went on to accuse freshers of: "Going to bed before midnight, attending more than two lectures per term and just generally consuming vast quantities of tea." At the time, the paper claimed York's lack of excitement created stale freshers: "Think about it. We have a vintage railway museum. We have a Viking Centre that smells of crap. And, of course, we have a vast quantity of ducks."

Mr Nick, thanks for that. it made total sense. linguistics is interesting.......any more where that came from? very interesting.

Mountain Dew is the Dog's Bollocks! Whereas Earl Grey Tea just tastes like the Dog's Bollocks! hehe. Assam is the king dick - can't beat a mug of Assam.

I'm gonna throw a cat among the Pigeons and vote Pepsi, simply because of Pepsi Max - it's the best thing for instant energy, and it wears a different name in the US, but I don't remember what it is.

oh, and Dr Pepper - so misunderstood! it's great!

EJfan - respect, friend. it's nice to see a fellow EJ fan! About that harmonic - it's basically a bar with the thumb around the 24th frett, a pinch harmonic around what must be the theoretical 36th, whilst using the free fingers of the barring left hand to left the trem and make it squeel.
