What's so special about 484? I agree, Jems can look rather pointy (although what are you talking about with your big long horns on your bass? (oh go on then, those are long but round instead of pointy like on the jem.)) BTW you say you play some upright double bass. Can you pluck, bow or both?

hey joe ~ i just emailed your opening quote on "the satch tapes" to a bunch of friends of mine in honor of todays anniversary. it really empancipates the idea of "when a door shuts, a window opens". i was just wondering - if hendrix hadn't died (33 years ago today), do you think your passion for music would've still drawn you into the spotlight? or was his passing an event that overwhelmingly enflamed your desire to carry on the torch?
for those who didn't know, there's a new jimi release out - do yourselves a favor and go pick up "live at berkeley" on CD and DVD. i have had the soundboard recording for a few years, but this is wonderfully remastered by eddie kramer - absolute clarity and power. one of his best live performances. joe, i still think you should do an album of his music - god knows you'd be the man for the job!

Fusion - Hehe, I swear on my amazing vibrato! lol, good to see you understand!

greg m - While I was reading your post, I said to myself: "Yeah, but bass horns are round...they're not pointy!"...and then I go on to see you say that very thing...LOL.
I like the JS over the JEM no matter what...the body is just too cool.
crushingday62 - You should buy Pocket Full Of Kryptonite by the Spin Doctors. LOL...sorry, but that's the first disc that popped into my head. ;-)

NARFACE- i dunno but the 3000gt is a slick looking monster, i think it's 4WD if i'm not mistaken, not sure why though...
on another note the UK magazine "classic rock" says on their site "Guitarist EDWARD VAN HALEN and his drummer brother ALEX are close to finishing a new album. It has been reported that they have parted company with VAN HALEN bassist MICHAEL ANTHONY with the material being recorded as a vocal-less duo..."
sounds like good news, an instrumental album, which could mean G3 in a number of years...but of course we have heard the old "close to finishing..." like 40 times so far.

for example >>>> 4/4 , 6/8 . 8/8... how do you determine the beat? top # represents? lower # representd? hope this makes sense... peaceeeeeee everyone... also is there a good way to learn the notes across the strings... still frustrated... help would be much appreciated...

tapper5 - In a time signature, the top number tells you how many beats are in a measure and the bottom number tells you what kind of note (quarter note, eighth note, etc.) equals one beat. So a 4/4 time signature would mean that 4 beats are in a measure, and one quarter note equals one beat. In a 6/8 time signature, there are 6 beats in a measure, and one eighth note equals one beat.
It's easiest to determine the beat by listening to the drummer. Listen to the bass drum, snare drum, and high hat, and try to find a pattern that repeats. The number of beats in the pattern will give you the time signature. A few examples:
Flying In A Blue Dream: 4/4 Once the drums come in, count along with the "bass, snare, bass, snare" pattern. Count a measure by going "one and two and three and four and" over and over... Counting the bass drum would be: ONE and two and THREE and four and... Counting the snare drum would be: one and TWO and three and FOUR and... The high hat plays on every beat, so counting it would be: ONE AND TWO AND THREE AND FOUR AND... This same basic pattern repeats (with a few variations) throughout the entire song.
Always With Me, Always With You: 6/8 Count a measure here by going one and two and three and four and five and six and... The shaker that starts at the beginning of this song is heard on every beat, so it's: ONE AND TWO AND THREE AND FOUR AND FIVE AND SIX AND... The "clap" in the background is heard on the fourth beat: one and two and three and FOUR and five and six and...
Does this make sense? Let me know if you have any questions and I'll give you a few more examples...or maybe someone else will chime in...
...Austin...
