Thanks to everyone who listened to my cover of Ceremony! its very much apreciated - hopefully I can soon start writing my own stuff to put up there!!

BeeZer - if you still have had no joy, I am more than happy to give you the working file direct via MSN? ollyno1uk@hotmail.com is my address

- that goes for anyone else who needs backing tracks or just wants my msn

Matt King - Thanks for the reply to my email! keep up the good work!

Aarren - that is a very kind offer. I will mail you the midi file tonight. It would be fantastic to have a better backing!! Then I can redo the whole thing incorpoerating your advice! - Did you get a drummer for your track? it sounds really professional - what kind of direction to you plan to take with that tune from here?

Cheers again

Olly

Joe,

I play in an instrumental rock band in Utah. Our band has learned through experience just how difficult it is to build a local fan base. It seems to us that instumental music is only appreciated by a small group of people that share our love for radical expressions of musical creativity.

I imagine you're a very busy person, but I am hoping that you can help us. We need your advice and, if at all possible, some help. We have impressed a lot of people here and ticked off a few as well (mostly other musicians), but we really want to take our guitar driven music somewhere. What do we do? How do we promote ourselves so we can get in front of the right people? How do we get the chance to impress people like yourself- people that have the experience and power to give us the direction that we need to succeed?

We are recording a CD that will include both studio work and live performances. When it is finished, we would be honored if you will be kind enough to listen to it and possibly offer us feedback and advice.

We are traveling from Utah to Arizona to come see you play in your opening show of the G3 Tour. I am very excited to see you play as well as your other friends.

Thanks Greg Page

Austin: if there was some kind of motivation other than "the love of the game" I'd do it. The Brisbane band "Regurgitator" often do animations for their own songs. The best ones I've seen are "Black Bugs" "Polyestergirl" and that frogger one (where they are actually in the game).

The code itself is not the issue, but the right tweaking and integer values are the main issue. It would take far too much time that I don't have, otherwise I would. (But I'd also record my own stuff to do it for!)

Olly - Believe it or not but the drums on my track are from a Virtual Instrument called an LM-7 which comes with Cubase SX. A little knowledge about how to play drums always helps when programming drums to get them to sound right. Im not too sure which direction I am going to take my track. All I know is that I am just going to let "it" go where it wants to.

Matt - Thanks bro.....

Mowlie - that is cool - I need to learn how to do that. using just a looping drum beat can be very demotivating when trying to compose! I will try and check it out!!

Cheers

Olly - The only way that you can get LM-7 is to buy Cubase SX (I believe) and then you need to know how to input data into the key editor and then adjust the velocities of each drum/cymbal to create a "groove". It's a pain in the arse.

When you gonna email me that midi file?

Aarren - geez why can't anything in life be simple??!! all I want is to be able to programm some simple drums!! I need to learn somehow!! I'll see if i can get a 'evaluation' version off of kazaa or something and give it a trial!!! It must have taken you ages to program !!!

I will be able to mail over the midi file tonight, I am at work at the moment!

So I see you have been playing guitar a long time! Do you teach guitar? do you need to have qualifications to legally teach guitar in the uk?

Cheers

Olly

Hi Mr. Satriani, as a great and deeply convinced fan i decided to fly around our globe from germany (berlin) just to see your G3 show in L.A. at the greek thetre. It would be a fullfillment of a dream to meet you there in person. Perhaps there is a chance at your aftershow party. I added my name in the list on this site, but perhaps there is a special contingent for long-distance travellers?

Seeing foreward to L.A. with european greets, Mathias

In regard to my previous posts, by "animation" I refer to 3D animation using object oriented programming...not Flash stuff anyone could do in 10 minutes with an editor.

Olly - If I am programming drums for a cover song then I usually set aside an afternoon to do it. As for an original song it takes as long as it takes.

I am a guitar teacher but I consider myself to still be learning. Although I have been playing a while there is still a lot to learn. As far as I am aware, you dont have to have official qualifications to teach guitar except if you plan to teach in a music school then you will be expected to have a degree in music (so I assume). I dont think there is any law to do with it as I think its more to do with the employers requiring you to have certain qualifications. Take myself, I went to the Guitar Institute and I came out with a Btec Diploma and I ended up teaching guitar in secondary schools (aswell as private). Also you need to remember that I am only 24 at the moment so ive still got a long way to go.

Hope that helps,

Aarren

Hey Zack, your trembolt is a good idea (my Parker Fly Deluxe has a similar lock) but doesn't it prevent you from doing those nice up-bends on the spur of the moment? You know, when you turn the whammy bar backwards and push down? I know Joe and Steve Vai do it a lot.

Hey, what happened to Stu Hamm? I see he doesn't play with you anymore. Stu's awesome, I love his bass solo on the live in san fransico DVD, I learned it right after I heard it. Any reason why he doesnt play with Joe anymore?

Man, another wicked storm last night. Rain & some honkin' wind gusts. Another sleepless night. Looks like the other half of the tree that fell on that womans car was blown over last night. The street crew has been out there in the rain for hours now trying to get it cut up and taken away.

Hey Jersey people, hope everyone stays safe. You folks are getting hit with it now. It ain't no joke, so be careful - and watch out for those damn trees! lol!

thanks for your feedback peeps... I guess it all boils down to a guitar being built well enough so that the trem stays in tune, the intonation's pretty decent and that there are no chokes or dead spots on the neck.... how everyone's not playing a Squier Strat then? lol

greg I can't remember, but thanks! Most of my built guitars were built from parts. One exception is Greeny (who's not green any more lol) whose body was a slab of mahogany. There's a big pice of paduak downstairs that'll hopefully become the next axe... tools-wise it's just normal stuff, like a bandsaw, router, pillar drill, sander, planer, etc, but hand tools are just as good - they just take longer!. Power tools are pretty cheap at places like Screwfix and MachineMart. All my bridges are right-handed black chrome Floyd licenced bridges from Brandoni. Pickups I really love Kent Armstrongs (even the cheaper Sky range), and I'm about to get rid of my DiMarzio Fred cos I don't like it ;-) Oh, and all necks are bolt-ons!

Laters! Dave
