r6rocker, I just started experimenting with dropped D tuning, since my band wanted to have a few heavy riffs. I figured that drop-tuning would be helpful so I can play heavy power chords, as opposed to just single note riffs (which are still cool!). However, on a song that I wrote, the music moves from a basic melodic segment into a heavy segment. I didn't want to tune a certain way because the melodic segment calls for standard tuning, while the heavy segment calls for a drop-D tuning (is any of this making sense!?!). so I figured that maybe the d-tuna would be helpful to play both parts without having just one set tuning. I was just hoping that there wouldnt be a problem with tuning when you switch from drop-d to regular.

DEATH CUBE: do you have a favorite key to solo in? I like C#.
GREG M. who or what is "hiram abif?" Is that an anagram or a philosipher or some sort of concious state?
Simon manzer: What kind of pick do you use?
I like a 3mm big stubby:-
Axmanjr: Have you ever considered a seven string? You may be surprised at how easy it is to get use to; and you can still find those ball-breaking chords without the d-tuna.

Slave to the sound:- I have two favorite guitars. One is a fender strat, maplewood board,21 frets; and the other is a 24
fret washburn, rosewood neck w/ floyd rose and it's much more high maintainence. I don't think i've played a maverick, however my floyd has a tendancy to sink a little. Have you tried intonating with a different gauge string? It is a bitch to intonate a floyd rose; do you know how?

pizza man, hiram was a poster here on the boards, no one's seen him/her for a while though... we think he left with avarice, but has probably rejoined as wolf2, and apparently me too, according to what greg was saying. lol

What's the neck scale on a JS 1000? I believe I probably need to find a shorter neck or smaller frets to avoid injuries in the future. Any ideas?

Narface - The box is kinda expensive, I know. But the box comes with the first three CDs as well as a bonus interview disc. It's well worth the money, I promise you.
It is only available through Steve Vai's website.

Tonecapone:- are you right handed? if so keep your fingernails on your left hand short. Do you use your pinky?
if so good, if not you need to really work on it because utilizing all your fingers will allow you to have less movement, more notes, faster notes, and it will make moving around the fretboard more dynamic and relaxed. you don't want to end up like kirk hammet, and be stuck in the same box for 20 years
not using your pinky, and being doomed to have a limit on what you can do.

Stu Clone: Fizzy Lime Jello for G3 lol
Narface: You can catch them on ebay a lot of times, but be careful, I've seen a lot of them sold as empty boxes with no discs at all.
OCPS470: That confirms my "Harder to play slow" theory. I can't play really slow, expressional stuff at all. Way too much time to screw up inbetween notes for me lol. Of course I can't play really fast either, so I just set the cruise on groove lol.
pizza man: You are so right about using the pinky. Mine is basically useless. I really need to work on it, but it's so frustrating to start over again like that.
Ovation: Today I was checking out PG's site, in the discography section and learned to my horror that he had the Japanese bonus track for the first Merry Axemas CD! How have I gone this long and not known about this? Dammit! I'm assuming you probably have it. Is it cool enough to buy an import for?

Trutina:- You've already played for 8 yrs. Have you done any two-handed tapping? Also, do you know how to practice at a steady, slow and consistent speed? How's your alternate picking? All you need to do is add a new regimine of routine to what you already do. Try doing an Aminor arppeggio like so: 7-12 on the A,10 on the D, 9 on the G, 10 on the B, 8-12 on the high E. This requires index, middle and pinky fingers to pivot on the fretboard. Do it very slowly and perfect: see where you're going next: later move it around. Then after about 8-10 hours of practice spread out over several weeks
you will remain relaxed with less movement playing faster. And after repetition, you will have incorperated something new into what you already have.

Long live John "Bonzo" Bonham......no one has ever pounded the piss out of a drum kit as he......
I read years ago that shortly before he passed, he drank four quadruple vodka's.....four !!! Exactly how many shots is that? You could try it and find out, but you'd probably die of a stroke.
Edit: I was told that it's sixteen shots....all within 10 or 15 minutes. I mean absolutely no disrespect to JB, just thought you all might like to know exactly why he perished...
