stu clone The "if you're going" thing is actually grammatically correct. I can't believe I didn't put a full stop at the end of the sentence, though! BTW please call these things by their proper names, you darned Americans!

Do you think we should try to correct crushing day's spelling, punctuation, grammar, syntax and just his english in general for him, or would that be pointless and merely cause much stress to all involved?

jelly man Remember about my brother's encounter with ACOS in his music lesson? I've just been to my old school's "monsters of rock" event, and they had on the band with the guy who brough the cd into the music lesson. They were excellent, rather thrashy for my tastes, but really cool. Their lead guitarist (a different person who doesn't do music AS) did the paul gilbert/four seasons tapping thing which I'm learning currently, so that was rather cool too, I thought.

Oh well, some of the guys I saw totally put me to shame (the abovementioned ones in particular) so I'd better go and do some guitar practice!

electro momo If you don't want to buy a guitar, don't buy it. Ther reason why the js900 exists is for people like yourself who can't quite afford a js1000.

Ya Yo - Independent drive? I don't know about that. Is is driven along with an Limited Slip diff? That'd be a pretty simple answer in that case. If there is a transaxle in the front and a diff in the rear, it's AWD.

Fusion5000 - Yngwie is king of soloing? Hm, I guess I can't argue against that because he's played the same one so many times, he must be getting pretty good at it.

you certainly do not need me to tell you this but -

what is the rolling stone thinking of when they deliberately omit you/eric johnson from not on the top 100 but from the top 10 guitarists of all time? was it something personal.

keith richards-as a lead guitarist-quite possibly as a song writer-but lead guitarist??? bb king??? jimi hendrix-correct-i saw your show in houston and when you were setting up-all along the watch tower was played over the monitors-a respectful but wooful silence came over the 5,000 or so in attendance-that is when you realize the magnitude of someones genius 30 years his passing. but chuck berry??

you and johnson have taken the art of instrumental rock and have consistently improved upon it relative to the foundation that jeff beck established w/his blow by blow production.

even duane allman-although his instrumental work was significant -the sum total of his work did not have the variety nor the polarity of arrangeing and technical expertise tha t you have clearly have evidenced since '87.

something appears to be amiss here

In regards to Joe having one chrome boy with Dimarzio pickups and another with Seymour Duncan....in what way do they change his sound? Is one better for getting a bluesy tone?

I can never understand it when people say Yngwie only plays one solo over and over again. Sure he has his favourite phrases, but I own every song he's ever recorded, and with the exception of two sections that he's repeated, none of the solos even sound remotely "the same" to me.

Mind you, I'm not a musician, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

As for the speed thing, I don't care how fast anyone plays, I just care about how good I find the music to be. Yngwie, Joe and Steve can all play fast, but it's what they play that sets them on a different level for me. I can't stand the likes of Impellitteri and especially Michael Angelo. They can play really fast, but I don't find anything musically appealing about what they play.

greg m,
"if you're going" would only have been correct if you were using it for purposes of generalization and comparison. for the purposes of my own arguments, i always assume people aren't arguing what it sounds like they are arguing ;)
heh heh

enough of that from me now... i'll run out of loopholes soon.

also, another quote from a reading i liked:
It can never be satisfied, the mind, never.
The mind wants to live forever, or to learn a very good reason why not.  The mind wants to the world to return its love, or its awareness; the mind wants to know all the
world, and all eternity, and God.  The mind's sidekick,
however, will settle for two eggs over easy."

DEATH CUBE K ..thanks for the info..I think the LUKE guitar looks great in Blue..I'm considering getting it..but of course..I also like a certain guitar callled the JS1000...do you prefer one over the other?

Also, I remember Joe saying something about new colors being available at somepoint for the JS series..but I haven't seen anything new at this point...I'm afraid to buy the JS 1000 in black pearl (which is basically the only color Guitar Center has)..and then find out that have come out with a whole new bunch of cool colors......I also heard that the 2003 JS1000 has a Floyd Rose tre..but the Ibanez website still lists it as a Edge Pro...does anyone know which is accurate?..and which tremolo system is better?

Hi Joe and crew, nice site you have here. I've been a fan since "Surfing with the Alien" but I am new here. I have a couple of questions;

1. Is this site likely to feature a shop in the future? I used to own a copy of "Joe Satriani Guitar Secrets" which unfortunately got lost when I moved, and I'm having trouble tracking down a new copy. Really wanted to master those exercises... plus, I'm just a sucker for merchandise.

2. Is there any possibility that G3 or the Satriani band will play in Australia in the near future? Sydney opera house would be such a cool venue, too.

Meanwhile, hope everything is going well...Joe, did you ever find out where "pearly" went? That sucks, man- you can always get a new guitar, but each one has sentimental value after a little while. Anyway, all the best... purge

btw Ethn...
your car starts off of your battery, once the alternator starts turning (engine running), your car is essentially recharging the battery so it won't run low. If your alternator sucks, the battery can't get recharged, so your car can't start.

As far as that "voltage test"... that does no good (the mech might'of had a special tool for this though)... The potential difference will still be 9 volts, but by the time your battery is "drained" the internal resistance is so high, the your battery just isn't pushing the electric current through. Hope that clears it up some, or at least gives you enough to sound like a smart ass next time you have to deal with it ;)

mmmm... time for dinner. Think I'll get chicken strips and onion rings -- and a salad. A drink, too. Won't look at a thing in a bag, though, I'll get the drink fair and square.

purge bs - Welcome to the site...

1.) You should be able to find the Guitar Secrets book at Amazon.

2.) Joe isn't planning on visiting Australia in the near future. There was a slight possibility of it earlier this summer after his Asian tour that ended up being cancelled due to SARS.

Well, it is the alternator apparently.I took off the - side and it dies when the car is idling, which my uncle said means its the alternator. ( speaking of bad grammar)

Weird thing is, the car starts fine now, but Im too nervous to go anywhere with it.Bleh.

Anyone tried using a computer and playing a guitar? When my hand hovers above the keyboard of my laptop and I touch a metal part on my guitar it hums! funny funny... when I take my hand away from the computer, everything is quiet again. When I lift my guitar over my head right under the flourecent light, there's a slight hum. When the TV is on, there's a slight hum... this is fun... hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm~

ah the joys of ground loops

really though, they suck. careful with those!

ethn, if you're car's starting alright, rev the engine a bunch... it'll charge the battery.
of course, ya still gotta give it some time just to be sure about that alternator (was it replaced and now it's working fine or what?).

No,Ill have to get up early on tuesday and get the part somewhere.I dont even know for sure how to put one in, hopefully my roommate will help me do it.

My uncle claims that I will find a new alternator for 30 bucks or less, but so far everyone has said around 100$

It just sucks, I was ON MY WAY to get the money order to get my new amp, but with car trouble I couldn't possibly spend all my money, if this alternator turns out to be 100$+, it would really suck to have spent all my bones, know what I mean?

Even with this problem, I am SO tempted to try to go see a movie, Im bored! But, if the car wont start once I get out of the movie, I would be screwed.
