Ethn, "Michelle:That shouldnt be hard for his band....its the same song, 40 times either way. :D " - Dude, I almost spilled hot coffee on my lap laughing at that!

Templar, we moved into a very nice house in the middle of August, less than a mile from our last house. I live in Eastern Pennsylvania. I love it here. The leaves will be changing color soon and everything will have a beautiful fall hue of reds and yellows. Great state to live in :) Even though I complain when it's to hot and to cold, I love the four seasons - o.k., actually I love to of the four seasons. lol!

Quote of the day:

"Im so hungry, I could eat a Swedish Guitar hero. :D "

Hi Joe, i'm realy a die hard fan of yours... It's funny that I used to have discussions with a friend i see only 2 or 3 times a year about Steve Vai and you. I said from the beginning that you are the greatest virtuoso and that Steve can't even come close to your playing. He tells me the opposite thang... and you get the second place from him. It's always a nice friendly conversation.

What do you think about Gary Chandler from JADIS (english steve hackkett, they say alike melodic guitarplayer) i wonder if there are more like him.

I wish you the best and i am with another friend and my wife a few which like to hear you sing some songs, i mean Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler makes money with less... And your songs were like youre instrumental tracks... very different. I Believe is one of my favorite sung songs and are put between Scorpions and Marillion ballads for me.

God bles you and i hope to see (or speak/meet) ya some day/music happenings.

If you like my favorite guitarplayers top 11:

1) You, 2) Steve Rothery (Marillion) 3) Chris Oliva - R.I.P. (Savatage) 4) Gary Chandler (Jadis) 5) Alex Lifeson (not of this earth 80's 90's music from Rush) 6) Harry Sacksioni - older albums (dutch player) 7) John Norum (Europe) 8) Adrian Vandenberg (Vandenberg/Whitesnake) 9) John Petrucci (Dream Theater) 10) Tony Clarkin older albums (Magnum) 11) Edward van Halen (Van Halen)

See ya, Ronald Schakelaar (Holland)

clarky I find it funny that for all the "teenage antipop rebellion" message of punk etc etc, the pistols were a put-together band.

jelly stew What annoys me even more is people getting all excited about sume new piece of crap"wow, look at these new girls, Mis Teeq, thepre so talented" was something I remember reading in the paper. Also, the people who say "yes, some good can come out of rock music, like George Michael". Did you watch the programme on the John Lennon song "imagine"? There were the people saying "wow, this is the best pop song ever, and another guy stating the fact that it is a really simple chord progression and then some lyrics which many would view of hypocritical. He was saying that it is like a placebo, Lennon had lots of credibility as a songwriter, so people would like imagine no matter what. BTW how's life at Surrey Uni?

Sheepkiller That is one cool username you have there. Do you like Jeff Beck?

Joe: It was really good to hear you "yuck it up" with Steve and Yngwie on Rock Line. I liked the comments about improvisation, and Steves explaination of his lates few albums. mowlie stu000 No, I don't think that backstage passes should be only for longtime members of the website. They should be selected at random from everyone who attends the shows (and bothers to register, of course.) Like it is now.

Clarky - good point on the improvising, I actually totally agree with what you said & I can't wait for the first 10 minutes of improv Steve does

Stu M - Steve's live DVD will be released Oct 21st - you can preorder it at amazon.com

Sweet news about the Denver show being recorded...I'll be there for that. My bro couldn't join me for the concert, so he'll be pleasantly surprised

Just a quickie- Any South West London based T2J-ers?? Fancy getting together for a pint/jam/chat? I'm moving to Tooting Bec area as of this Sunday (4th Oct), so if any of you guys or gals fancy a get together, drop me a line! Also, I'm trying to get back in the "scene" ,so need to make some contacts! Especially if you play bass...... (I need a bassline for one of my trax and I'd like to have a "live" bass rather than programmed for this one!!!)

Greg I think that Clarky said it for me man, but I do see your point of view as well.

Jelly Stew Yeah I agree with you man. Another point about the 'old' music is how it fares over time. 'Classical' music that we listen to nowdays is most likely (certainly the older stuff) what was popular at the time. I'm not a 'classical' buff but I'm sure there are obscure manuscripts kicking around that have not been played or heard, that would blow musicians away.

Dave Damn 'net nanny' won't let me in to that link :-/

one thing to add......
melodic minor ascending contains the major 6th and major 7th alterations to the natural minor scale.
melodic minor desending only contains the major 7th alteration to the minor scale and is therefore exactly the same as the harmonic minor scale..

careful there, clarky... melodic minor descending = natural minor

About the Rockline interview-

While I have a deep respect for these gentlemans intelligence, and found many of the remarks profound and enlightening...

The quote of the night in my opinion came from Joe in response to YM's "More is more".

"And these go to eleven" pretty much summed it up, didn't it?

Love you, Joe! ;)

Stu Clone, that's right, the melodic minor sounds good in that context... if you play V5 as a dominant instead of a v5 in a minor progression, which happens in many songs; and maybe even better than an armonic minor...

But there must be something else, right? I've got a book about scales which writes down all the modes and the chords, and it says that all the modes of the melodic minor are very important...

But it could be that these modes were used in jazz, not so often in rock'n'roll or normal radio songs... The chords are quite weird, here they go (in C key) : C-maj7 D-7 Ebmaj7(#5) F7 G7 A-7b5 B-7b5

Anyway, I'll post something if I find anything else in a book. Thanks!

Any news on the T2J cd?

mowlie 2000 - Yeah, I'm sure new people sign up only to take advantage of the backstage passes, but it's only fair. My biggest problem is when passes go unused. I wish there was some way to prevent that, but I still hear about it happening at a few shows on every tour.

DXMG - Can you email me the photos? My addy is in my profile.

Well, I should get going...homework time!

well, let's look at that... are the chords really that weird?
Cmaj7, no problem there
Dmin7, fine... diatonic seventh chord
Ebmaj7(#5)... well now, what would that be? Just a Vmaj chord with an Eb on the bottom, right? It's really just a setup for that F7 coming up (the Eb)
F7. not much of a problem here. just changes the overall tonality to Cmin, but is setting up for some movement.
G7. plain and simple.
Amin7(b5). this is the only one that's kinda confusing me... but really, it's just a "color chord" as I'm looking at it. a keyboard player would put extensions on this almost instinctually, i'm betting (and that b5 is just bringing the Eb back in to play).
Bmin7(b5) diatonic seventh.

melodic minor ascending and descending are different scales, as defined by the "classics"
melodic ascending = melodic. melodic descending = natural minor.

Clarky,
I forget... for that Ebmaj7(#5) chord, is that just Ebaug7, or does the aug7 have the dom. seventh?

also, superdave. yes, the melodic minor scale has important sub scales in there that come from its modes.
you've got lydian dominant (lydian w/ b7), lydian b2, super locrian, all sorts of cool stuff. i'm always forgetting those ones though. i have to think about them if i wanna remember what the name is.
