hmmm.....no doubt G3 will be awesome......it's all a part of Joe's plan dont'cha see???....keepin quiet, laid back.....sure malmsteen is the fastest, but remember, speed kills...and Malmsteen and Vai will break their necks tryin to outplay the other while joe wows everybody with music that makes sense, has feeling and a sense of direction..

I got a kick out of Yngwie talking about the fact that his webiste was a "dot org" site and not a "dot com" site... Yngwie obviously has a sense of humour!

He went on by saying in a voice that kind of sounds like Winston Churchill's "I have made my living Playing with a Piece of Wood, that's what I do" or something like that, and knows nothing about computers... His fans deal with all that for him...

sorry clarky... I know you're a Vai fan... but in all honesty, I really think the tour will be cut short, I just don't think Vai and Malmsteen can get along with each other for very long...

too much ego there I think...

What is going on every one? I'm getting more excited about the show I am going to everyday, it is only two weeks away now. What up with the DVD I'm hearing about? I don't even have the DVD with Eric Johnson yet from one of the other G3 tours, I do'nt even have a DVD player, Christma, lol. I will get it though and the Live in SF DVD. I've seen it and the Satch Tapes and they are cool. Seen the old G3 DVD too. Anyway, the show is closer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Sammy you never know... if all guitar players could put their egos aside for their fan's sake it would be an extremely happy world...

Obviously there could be some tension there between Vai and Malmsteen because they both played for Alcatrazz and one replaced the other... And it seems that they were jabbing a little at each other when they were talking about the most favourite bands they were in and it mostly pretained to Steve. Yngwie made it quite clear that some of Vai's choices were probably not the best... but hey that's all part of it... scoping out the situation and seeing what's out there... I'm sure Vai knows all that, but Yngwie felt that he had to say something about it... I think Steve was wise in saying that his favourite band was the one when he was in High School, and mentioned Joe was teaching him then and was able to take what he just learned and applied it to the band...

JS Clone, Stu Clone explained the Spinal Tap reference pretty well. Check out his previous post before yours - if that's what you were asking...

Trutina, some customers are prety funny. I had to make an appointment for my daughter at a hair salon we've never been to before. I wanted someone who could work with my daughters hair. She has a punkish cut, so I don't want no old gas bag trying to figure out what the dilly is. I told the woman I want someone who's hip with the kids and down with the funk. She laughed and said she thinks she has the right girl for the job. lol! We'll see on Saturday. lol!

Stuvation (that name just kills me!), did you mention the one and only Captain Morgan?? I'm having at it as I speak. The Capt. & ginger ale. It doesn't get any better than that! lol! Cheers mate!

As for Steve and Yngwie getting along on the tour...Steve seems like the kind of guy who is cool tempered and can shrug off a bad vibe. I'm not a BIG fan of Steve's music, but I think he rocks as an artist and a person. He seems like a very cool guy. Maybe the guys will get along great? I think Joe said the tour was only for 6 weeks or something like that, and besides, I think they give each other plenty of space between gigs.

Electric_Guitarist: Marshall 100 watt on a limited budget? Just what do you consider limited? lol Silmarien: It was a pretty bad movie, but I enjoyed it because I studied in Mexico this summer and lived in the city where a lot of it was filmed...remember the steps that everything was blown up on? I went to school there...Guanajuato University. The capital building's also downtown right next to a club that we went to at least twice a week (fittingly named "El Capitolio")

Is there going to be a show in Cleveland,or at least Ohio somewhere, I haven't seen Yngwie since the mid 80's when he opened for AC/DC. just wondering why you would skip the state with the rockinroll hall o fame. I have been watching and am still waiting for the G3 tour to post a Cleveland show.

What are the odds of seeing Vai, Satch and Petrucci together again, I didn't get to see it last time, and I would kill to see that. Those are my three favorite guitarists....but not in that particular order.

Michelle: It sounds wonderfull!! Yeah I complain about the Summer being over but I do love Autumn the smell of partially decaying leaves and the colours of the trees...it's really the months of January, February and March that suck big time, especially this year as I turn the dread 3...0.... in January that sucks bigger!! Well I live in a nice place too...a 600 year old farmhouse built way before Christopher Columbus said "Shall we go on this trip then or what?" ;-D lol! It's got a ceilaing beam of Oak that dates from Robin Hood's time! 1100's Glad you're enjoying it over there, I don't know much about the states, I've only been twice and all last year, sounds lovely though!!

Narface - Happy 600! OCPS470 - Happy 300!

r6r Classical music being what was popular at the time, well, most of what we regard as "classical" was art music, as opposed to what we would now label folk music, which was the pop of the day. Earlier on (Renaissance), most art music was written for the church, or else for the court of a king. Moving into the Baroque period, a lot of it still was. Bach wrote loads and loads of church music (he composed a new kantata for each sunday), Purcell was made organist in Westminster Abbey at age 18, Handel is best remembered for the Messiah, but he wrote other stuff like operas, and the fireworks music is well known. Purcell also wrote stuff like Dido and Aeneas (roman legend), adn even Bach wrote plenty of instrumental stuff which wasn't for the church. Moving into the LCassical period, they were generally writing for secular performance, but this was mostly for "the chattering classes" so to speak, and some people were very popular among this social sector (Mozart made a lot of money and then wasted it all) whereas some were too ahead of their time, weren't listened to and fulfil the "lonely genius" stereotype, ie Bethoven was sort of in that direction. In the romantic age, this sort of thing continues. My mum assures me that Liszt was "the darling of Europ" but again, I presume this was amongst the concert going classes, your average washer woman may not even have heard of him (obviously, nothing's changed in the past 100 years). So, that's art music. As fot the popular side of things, there was folk, then there was pop, and now we seem to have folk as a form of art music (alfred deller) and then, occasionally, folk as a form of pop (fairport convention). Songs would probably have been more local in the past, whereas now the pop industry has taken off, grown and crossed borders in this century because of the recording studio. Any queries?

achoo: I wouldn't worry too much about not knowing pitch axis theory or even all that much theory. I realize Joe says to learn theory then forget it and can explain everything he does. I've been playing for a ton of years and am self taught also and my knowledge of theory is limited too but I don't worry. In the latest interview I read with Jeff Beck he said he can't explain a thing he does, he just does it. I can't argue with that since he's one of the pioneers of rock guitar to the point that he was doing some of Hendrix's tricks before Jimi ever did them. So I guess what I'm saying is...if you really want to know some item of theory, learn it but don't fret (pun intended) if you don't know it all.

Cube funnily enough I've been doing one-take stuff since the conversation started too! If your track's anything to go by then I reckon we're all onto a winner ;-)

R6R I hijacked the swf file and emailed it to your Hotmail ;-)

Sammy Andrews I agree @ too much ego... the last thing anybody needs is Joe becoming a referee and taking his focus away from his playing...

Watched the second Harry PotHead film last night (for the second time)... not as impressed as with the first, but I reckon a few more watches and I'll probably like it some more.... Later peeps, D

r6rocker - vivaldi's 4 seasons was only relatively recently discovered, for example. I think the whole subject is too deep to discuss in full over T2J, when you've got to consider the fact that classical composers were to a large extent writing to please the audiences (though not totally, there was a balance between writing for the audience and not getting totally bored out of their brains).

This is actually good revision for me, since this is all the kind of stuff that my first "understanding music" lecture was going on about. I have too much reading to do.

Greg... uni's good fun. Nothing too mindblowing in terms of understanding yet, though a fair bit of work (particularly reading) to do. Today I only had one lesson, a seminar on harmony which was the most dull, simple lesson I have been to in a *very* long time. But the guy was nice...

I'm really looking forward to any chance to meet up with the guys from ACM so if you're out there, let us know! There are way too many guitarists/bassists here at the university and nowhere near enough drummers!
