joe- I have been a big fan for a while and recently I found out that you are a relative! I was so excited to know that you are cousin to my Uncle Dennis, from New York! I never knew his last name because he was always just Uncle Dennis to me, and my mother Carol Brancati and my grandmother Rita told me all about you- Rita even brought old guitar magazines from the 80s with you on the cover to my house over the summer. I am so happy to know there's someone else in our family somewhere that listens to my kind of music- and plays it too! Awesome music, I really hope you come by New York sometime and visit! Much love, Jackie

Anyone hear whatever happened to Planet US, which was going to be (as far as I know) - Satch and Neal Schon on guitar, Sammy Hagar on vocals and Michael Anthony on bass?? I forget who was on drums...but I thought they appeared on Rockline at some point. Anyone know if that Rockline episode is downloadable somewhere? Thanks.

For Sale: Ibanez P-540

I hate to spam the list, but obviously there are lots of guitar players here, and I really need to sell this guitar. It's the same model Ibanez (but different color) that Joe is pictured with on the new cover of "Not of This Earth". Please email me if you are interested and want to see pics. The guitar is in very good shape. email: jcshirke@midway.uchicago.edu

Also FS: Mega Boogie MK II C+ combo. Hey, you never know who might want one...can't hurt to mention it here also.

Thanks.

one jug of coffee, half a packet of Marlbro and a few hours later..... Clarky cracked Erotomania...... wooooohoooooo ! ! !

I haven't quite got it note perfect from start to finish as there's just too much to remember..... but at least the mistakes I make never occur in the same places which tells me that I basically have it down.... I'm sure that if I scurtinised it closer that I'd find that I'd made a few errors here and there.. but then some of it is very very quick some I'm just making my best guess at what's going on.. maybe some day I'll rip the track to bits with a sampler and find out 100% what's really going on in there... and see if Clarky's ear'oles are as good as he thinks they are.. lol lol

so what's the verdicit???

it's really hard.... playable, but really tough none the less...

if you've never screwed your tendons then this track is a great candidate to do so...

eye protection and a safety harness must be worn....

DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME KIDZ ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !... lmao

clarky,
personally, erotomania isn't that hard... course I'm speaking from a bassists perspective, but the stuff isn't THAT tough to get... i bet i could pinpoint the spots you're having trouble with though ;)

stu - hhhmmmmm vastly unfair comment...

I didn't really struggle with any of it technically - although it's a very advanced piece and quite challenging in places [especially towards the end]... it's just a whole lot to take in at a single sitting....

yes the riffs and time changes are a piece of piss... but the chord voicings are surprisingly tricky in places....

and the bass don't exactly go charging around the neck at mach 2.2 like the lead guitar now does it..... lol lol

so.... slap on the wrist to you matey boy for stating the obvious.. "well the bass bits ain't that bad.." roflmao

now where's that beer

Clarky,
I meant no challenge to your technical ability, I just mean that parts of it are REALLY annoying to memorize note for note!
I'm also learning that in as little time as possible (bad idea), and there's just certain parts that have rather counter-intuitive note patterns.

Obviously the guitar parts are gonna be harder than the bass parts for a song like that, but I didn't mean for any technical skill to come into the equation, I meant memorization, and ONLY memorization.

Clarky - Lol... Yeah, I can see how that would freak you out... I spoke to the guys you met today at ACM. Turns out it was Adam, Sam and Danny. Danny's a scary fucker on the axe, man. Holy shit... Erotomania, huh? I did a full analysis of that track for Composition and Arrangement Studies. We were meant to pick "any contemporary top 40 hit", but I wanted to challenge myself. Have a beer on me. Kronenbourg is it?

Aarren Nice cover of Surfing, it's one of my fav Satch songs to cover. Again, I like that you don't regurgitate Satch note for note when you cover him - I play that song note for note except on the fast passages where I play my own variation (cuz I didn't feel like memorizing those parts!!). Keep 'em rollin!

Cubasis - looks good on paper but most users who've bought it seem to have major things to complain about (4.0)...

Does anyone here have it? Any comments? I'm considering the Magix Deluxe package, which I have an older version of.

And Neal Morse - Testimony - a truly great album guys, if you were ever into Spock's Beard, this walks all over Snow (which itself is superb). Really worth a buy.

mick87 I thought cubase was originally for mac anyway?

clarky It really depresses me when people post back after a few hours saying "I've learned erotomania" or something like that. " Wow," I think, "I am so bad."

matt king I've downloaded your SB cover. Now I just need to put it on cd and transfer it onto my computer to listen before the uni ban me for downloading mp3s.

Its way too hard to keep up in here now I don't have an internet computer I don't share with squillions of other people anymore.
