I'll go for Little Wing. LW 3 - HJ 1

rockthechasbar - Hi...welcome to the site. Tell us a little bit about yourself. Have you seen Joe live before? What are your favorite JS songs? What's your favorite album?

I don't think the G3 tour will be making another stop in Toronto. You'll just have to catch the show when/if the CD and DVD are released.

The Prez - We're all speculating that we'll see a seven-string JS for sale in 2004.

Ibanez released a few chrome guitars a few years ago...they're the JS 10th series.

tomjr - Joe yelled at a security guard? Cool! ;-)
Grandmaster Ramrod - Welcome to the site! I don't think the G3 tour will make its way to Europe, but Joe will without a doubt go there on his next solo tour.
achoo - Phil Keaggy is awesome.
Jake 49ers - Thanks for the info.
Do2222 - Thanks for that link...LOL.

Filesharing Stuff - I've bought around 60 CDs in the past six months. So yeah...I don't steal music. Being in the dorms at college, I hear ALL KINDS of excuses from people who download music all the time. Some of the excuses are pretty pathetic.

"I'm just downloading songs that I wouldn't buy anyway." - Well, of course you won't buy them because you're stealing them for free! I guess there's a fine line between liking a song enough to steal it and liking a song enough to buy it. Give me a break.

"Music is too expensive." - What kind of argument is that? Cars are expensive...is it okay to steal them? No it's not. Yes, some places are charging around $20 for new CDs, but you can always find good prices if you shop around.

"I sometimes only like one song by a band, so I just download that one. I don't want to buy the whole CD." - Interesting... I guess these people haven't heard of CD singles. Oh, wait...those disappeared a few years ago because people chose to download songs instead of buying the singles.

"I don't like buying a CD when there is only one or two good songs on it." - This is probably my favorite argument. The "one or two good songs" are ALWAYS the singles that are played on the radio. People who make this argument are basically admitting that they can't listen to music and appreciate it for what it is...they have to hear it on the radio so they know that it's a good song (or a "cool" song) before they say that they like it.

In my media ethics class yesterday we briefly talked about the internet and filesharing. In fact, this weekend's homework assignment for this class is to find an illegal copy of the movie Shattered Glass on the internet, download it, burn it onto a CD, and bring it to class on Monday. I hope we get deeper into this topic on Monday too...I didn't get much of a chance to mention any of the above arguments yesterday...LOL. Anyway...

i suppose i'm only a little unethical. hahahaha. but yeah... i've stopped now. so i guess i'm conveniently righteous since the campus doesn't allow it.

Hey Joe: I know you probably get a lot of these, But just listen please. I'm 52 years old, I'm not out to become a star, But I've been playing guitar for about 35 years, and I've written a song that you have to do. Just let me send it to you. I would love to get songwriting credits and royalties. I've never tried this before. 5 minutes is all I ask.

PS. Saw you in Fresno with stuart hamm, I could'nt decide who to watch, you or him. I tried both. Thanks

Yeah, Phil Keaggy and Steve Morse are my top 2 for the G3 tour. I noticed something, with my tone, whenever I play something, it feels weak, how can you have sustain without too much feeback or other crap fuzz.

tomjr: JOE is definately the man!!....Glad you got your JEM signed, and did you take it in with you at the start of the show??....(This will help people who are wondering whether to carry their git's in at the start of the gigs)....

Ethn Hayabusa: BUT I expected to see him go out and play his ass off....lol man, I see your point, but I cant feel sorry for ya....As other's have stated, I would have loved to see G3 in my neck of the Globe, so you should be glad just to have seen it....And you saw it twice!!.... ;-)

fused9: a diamond cut steel garbage can 6in floor tom would be appropriate....hehe, you know, not a bad idea.... Although, for Lars, it should be cubic zirconia (or whatever the heck they call it), LMAO....

Clarky: lol on sharing that David Cross story and the outcome after the gig, hehe, fine line between clever and stupid.... Reminds me of the fine line Were only human, but were still Aneemals....BTW, I like: 1 - Grand Master Clarkytsu's Dojo.. a place of meditation, study, discipline and extreme violence.... lol, you can be soft, but yet at the same time, be heavy as thunder, lol!!....

Cyber Alien / jayjo: Be sure to give us a review of Hammer Of The Gods!!....From what I hear, you guy's will be blown away!! :-)

LW 4 - HJ 2....I voted for Little Wing, and how did Hey Joe get 2 you ask??....I used digi's post....lol, he voted and didnt even know it, hehe.... Will this be the controversial call that cost's the team the World Series?? ;-)

^u$+||\| i agree with the downloading thing.. i mean , studio time is expensive, then you got mastering .art work.. i guess a lot of people get paid for every cd made.. ... but on the other hand if the artist has made a track available.. thenits ok. because they have authorized it... i am trying to say if you own the legal rights to a peice of music then you could file share it if you wanted . so unless you recorded it wrote it , and ripped ..
ethn i hear what you are saying . i get annoyed when i pay big bucks only to have the show not go the way i think it should.. anyhow take it easy..

OVATION1- right on bro.....the less expensive the more Lars..lol

DO THE STU- Im with you on the downloading music thing. The only time I ever downloaded music was when i wanted to hear the whole song. I go to amazon.com and listen to the samples..if I like, I'd download it...and buy it later in the month. Would you say that is fair?

MICK87- Little Wing man!!!!

Stu Clone - Yeah, I forgot about "I hardly ever do it."...although that one isn't as big anymore (at least with people who I've talked to). I get a lot of "Yeah, I know I do it a lot and I know it's wrong, but I don't care.".

I've downloaded a few things in the past, and I still do it every now and then. But when I do it, it's to get a sample of a song or a band. If I like what I hear, I delete the MP3 and buy the album. If I don't like what I hear, I delete the MP3 and that's the end of it.

I got into John Petrucci and Dream Theater because I downloaded an MP3 of Acid Rain by the Liquid Tension Experiment back before the G3 2001 tour. Someone on this very site suggested I do that to get acquainted with JP's music. I bought both LTE discs and some Dream Theater stuff as soon as I heard the song, because I absolutely loved it.

MP3s are wonderful when they're used like this. I'm willing to bet that a great majority of the people on this site use MP3s the same way I do. When we download MP3s, I'm sure we all either buy the respective CDs or immediately delete the MP3s. We're preaching to the choir when we say "Filesharing is bad!" here on T2J.

There's a huge difference between the situation I described and one person buying a CD so thousands of people can download the music for free. THAT is a big problem, and it sucks because it's ruined "filesharing" for the rest of us.

Another argument I see is "It's no different than making a tape of a friend's CD, like we all did ten years ago.". That argument doesn't work because it works out to "one purchase and one copy". The way people use MP3s today, it's more along the lines of "one purchase and thousands of copies"...it's a big problem.

Jake 49ers - Sadly, no one who has reviewed the Denver show has made mention of the complete setlist. As far as we know, Why, Crushing Day, and The Power Cosmic were last played in Concord on 10/17. They were not played at my show on 10/18. The Denver show on 10/20 was the next tour stop after my show. If Joe had intended to put the three songs mentioned above on the DVD, I'm sure he would played them at my show and then again at the Denver show...it wouldn't make sense to drop them only once the day before the show, so I think it's safe to assume that they aren't on the DVD.

If I had to guess, I'd say that Joe's Denver setlist is identical to the 10/18 setlist that I mentioned in the review of that show (posted here by me on 10/19).

T1MER1DER - I think you misunderstood me. Some people that I know have said that they don't buy CDs because they only contain one or two good songs. When I ask them what the "good" songs are, they always name the songs that are played on the radio. These people can't appreciate music for music. To them, good music is music that they hear on the radio. They can't figure out what a "good" song is on their own; they have to be told what the next "cool" thing is so they know that they are supposed to like it.
death cube K - I agree with you 100%. Artists should have the final say with how their music is distributed...
fused9 - Of course that's fair. ;-)

PhryDom: Cool wallpaper man. Prompted me to throw in "Tribute" and listen to him jam. How could I have forgotten how damn cool he was? Thanks for reminding me.

crushingday62: No problem at all with that question man, no worries here. I'll have some good news hopefully early next week.

death cube K: Haha on regular mail. No, I'm still missing a few. I don't have the list here in front of me, but I'll post the list of shame in the morning lol. Oh, and happy belated birthday to you. How's are things going with the viral infection? Improving I hope.

Ovation: What in the hell is the world coming to? Ozzy thinks that Zakk drinks too heavily? I damn near dropped my Red Stripe on that one! I guess it would be hard to be around that when you're a recovering addict, but still, talk about the pot calling the kettle black lol

Michelle: Thanks again, things seem to be calming a bit, and we're talking again and all of that so maybe things will work out. Maybe they won't. I've written some of the strangest music in the last week due to my confused state of mind lol. How did the mission from god go? Hope all went well.

Ethn: Dude, why you always gotta be holding back on us. You can tell us how you really feel, you shouldn't keep all of that aggression bottled up inside of you, go ahead, unleash the fury!

Lyz: Hey there, long time no see. Be sure to drop in every now and then.

Stu M: Happy 900 Greg!

Migupais: It's been educational doing the T2J project, I can tell you that. I'm really interested in doing a 2nd one, and I can assure you all that it will go much quicker and smoother than this one has. We had lots to learn, but we're just about done!

Top 10 Vai songs? Geez, that's a toughie. Ok, in no particular order 1) Fuck Yourself 2) Warm Regards 3) Kill The Guy With The Ball (I wake up to that every morning!) 4) The Attitude Song 5) The Audience is Listening 6) Whispering A Prayer 7) Babuska 8) The Fire Garden Suite (with Bankok intro0 9) The Riddle 10) For The Love of God.

I'm voting Hey Joe because I like SRV's version of Little Wing better. Blasphemy you might say, but I'm in love with the Spawn of Satan so what did you expect lol

Little Wing 5 Hey Joe 3

Ok, and now for the coolest thing to happen all damn week. Yesterday I finally got around to getting Rush in Rio! Why the hell did I wait this long! I have 14 Rush cd's, every live release and I've never heard Alex play as well as he does on that one. I loved the set list with only 2 minor complaints. One, I really liked the jam on Closer to the Heart that was on Different Stages. That's in my top 10 songs list of all time and I've really gotten used to listening to that way, so the regular version doesn't do it for me as well as it could. And I was really hoping for a full version of 2112! I know, they did it for the first time live on the last live cd, but it still would have been cool. Other than that, the only thing I would have wanted added would have been In The End and Ghost of a Chance. Other than that I find it flawless. If anyone here is even the smallest bit of a Rush fan, go out and buy this dvd right now!

fused9: Right on bro on Lars ;-).... BTW, that's exactly what I do....Listen to sound samples that are provided at cd sites....It gives me a heads up on my next purchase ....I could'nt be bothered going to kaaza (never have) and the like cause it's not right (IMHO) and I'd rather get a real cd with the whole deal (the cd cover, info, etc.)....I also gladly listen to my bro's who post their music here because it's the Satch Family, and IUMA (and the like) help upcoming artists keep their dream alive while also getting their name out....

trutina: lol man, I believe it had more to do with Sharon because she's getting tired of Zakk's antics....She kinda rules the Mothership over there, lol....BTW, the RUSH DVD is sold out here till Dec!!....Have to wait, but I heard there are some tricks on there with the Easter Eggs....Let's you listen to more?!?!..../\USTI/\/ posted the key to getting there a couple of posts ago, lol ;-)....

heh heh...
still a cool track matt!

anyways, since you asked,
i think i would've stayed away from that 1/3/4/5 pattern... the "4" specifically. if i had heard that and did my own bass track it probably woulda been 1/3/5/6/5 with the last two notes in eighths givin it that shuffle feel (to start... i eventually woulda just walked it to keep it from being to much like a bouncy rockabilly). it was mostly just that 4th that kinda stuck out to me.

keep it up, man! you're more the musician each time i hear ya!

edit: another thought... come to think of it, i actually probably woulda played the line in 2, then gone to a 4 feel when you got more soloish.
