R6ROCKER: I have to agree with you about Chet Atkins. He was one of the most gifted players with a truly unique sound.

Dear Joe Satriani:
I love the way you play your guitar. I am 10 years old and have a guitar that someday I might play as good as you. I am a fan of your's. I saw in concert at Bone Bash.

Tom Sr Right on man ;-) One of the great things about Chet is that he could play some lightening licks when the music called for it but his melody lines were pure, clean and well orchestrated but simple - all about the song, not the guitar. Thinking about it he probably had some influence on me picking up a guitar, my Dad used to listen to his stuff when i was a kid, along with Sabbath and Purple - lol ;-)
Clarky Good advice dude - think vibes !
Have a good weekend all, I'll try and catch up again next week ;-)

Stu and Greg I believe he has his delays set to different times, so the looping isn't predictable. One might be 70 seconds ( :-O! lol) another might be 40 seconds, and another at say 33, etc. It sounds to me that most are on a pretty high feedback level, but he's constantly chuffing about with things too, with realtime foot controllers. All Frippertronics tracks you listen to tend to start gradually because of the time taken for the first repeats to appear. He plays notes, chords, etc, but none of it sounds like a guitar to me - I guess that's the influence of the Whammy & the GR??? guitar synth. The stuff he did on Sleep Walk sounds slightly different - I don't hear that much use of the looping delays, and just more of the "doesn't sound like a guitar" tones. Either way, it's totally unique and sounds amazing!

Hey Joe I was just at the concert at the Keswick theater in Pennsylvania. It was one of the best shows I have ever seen. The energy was just great. You as always put on a great performance, but I have to admit Steve was really on that night. Yngwie was really great also. I had never seen him before and I really enjoyed his act. My friends and I also had a chance to meet you and Steve, I won the tickets on this sight so thanks very much, and you guys were both very nice. I was not sure what to expect but it was definately my pleasure. My friends and I have been fans of yours for years and I have caught your performance everytime you were in Philly. I hope to meet you again and thanks for everything. You are not only a great player but you appear to be a great guy too. P.S. can you stat to sell the JS sweatshirt as it was not available at the show.

The Prez, I have been lucky enough to have the pleasure to "meet" Stu several times... I guess it'd be up somewhere around the 20s for times that I've "met" him. Don't remember for sure.
Yes, he has a super slick signature series bass. You can see a lame representation of it (frickin fender website. harumph!) here ---> yes, right here

Was at G3 last night in Toronto... as compared to other G3s, I have to say that the sound was surprisingly good, very clear & crisp. Mixing could have been a tad better but still great overall. I liked Yngwie's set -- his stuff gets repetitive after a bit, but he was still great to listen to and didn't seem trashed this time, unlike the last time I saw him play! Steve & Joe were phenomenal as always.
I didn't have a backstage pass and was part of the crowd that waited 1-1.5 hrs in the cold to meet them and get stuff signed... Yngwie ran to the bus, but did sign stuff -- you had to give it to a security guy, who sent it into the bus, then you'd get it back. Was debating whether to get an Yngwie signature on my Jem BSB, since it is a Vai guitar after all... I sent it into the bus, it comes back with his signature, and underneath he wrote "Play Fender!"...! He did that to another guy's Jem 10th anniversary. I didn't mind too much, it is sort of funny. Vai signed "Play Anything" in response to that, on the other guys Jem 10th (he just signed his name on mine).
Steve and Joe signed the guitar as well. Steve seemed to be mobbed by more people than Joe for whatever reason, which was great because it gave me the opportunity to shake Joe's hand....!! After listening to their music for so long, and attending so many of their shows, it's really an indescribable feeling to have them standing right there in front of you.
Joe -- thanks again for all the music and for the G3 tours!!!!!!!!

Ovation - Thank for checking out my tunes:) There are a couple of chormatic lines in Changes part 2 which sound a little "out" on purpose. More tunes will come soon.
Fretslayer - Jennifer Batten does have a new cd in the works for favoured nations. She played a couple of tunes of it at a clinic this year.

Funny, I just saw the cover of this magazine today, it has a review about a new restaurant here in Rio. Much to my surprise, one of its walls has a painting that was inspired by someone we all know and love... check it out.

G3 Toronto - Was a lot of fun. Actually bought a Joe Shirt! Thought those things didn't exist.
I have to admit, I had never heard Yngwie's playing before, and I liked it. But I have to say that I can totally see the "unleashing of the fury"! The scales/sweeps etc got a little old, I don't think I could have all Yngwie CD's in the stereo like I can do with Joe. After a while it felt like I was constantly in the final battle stage of Final Fantasy game, or playing Fantasia in fast forward.
Vai was a welcome relief from the classical era, but still nothing compared to Joe. I didn't particularly like that new "slow" song he had, can't remember the name. It sort of sounded like most of those "free the whales, world peace for all!" songs. It was lacking...something.
Joe was great. I loved those new guitars! I had a perfect view of his fretboard from my balcony seat. What I like about Joe is that there is never any emotion lacking in his work. And I love how he improvised in the songs rather than drawing out his Jams at the end. Joe is the best. I particularly like this quote from the November issue of Guitar World:
"A head shorter than the other two, his clean-shaven pate shrouded in a crazy quilted hat, Satch is like the wise, patriarchal monk in kung-fu movies--the tranquil master who could kick the crap out of everybody if he felt like it."
Sorry if that has been posted already, I've been without a pc for close to two months! :)
Rock on, Joe!

Thank you Joe.
In Toronto at the meet and greet I was having a picture taken with you and of course the camera acted up. You said take a couple more just in case. Well the first one didnt show up but the next two did. Thank you Mr. Satriani for showing you usual class and grace, it comes through your music and as you are in person. It was a class show and worth every penny.
All the best
Greg

jimi fender bender - but of course... twice. And it's beautiful.
the whole filesharing thing - i don't do it at all apart from very limited checking out of bands - it is after all how i got into both JS and LTE. But I then delete the files - in my opinion, if the music's not good enough to make want to support the artist behind it, it's not good enough to pollute my musical ear- extreme I know, but bathe in filth and you're going to end up muddy.
I also have no illegally copied programs on my computer. I think that's even more of a problem. If you look at Sibelius, it's so massively overpriced that no-one buys it, even with student discounts, and virtually every music student at my uni has an illegal copy (apart from me) since it is so useful. That's just unrealistic stupidity from the company involved.
