kevt03 Will you buy it at Record Collector? I would ask you to say hi but I think the person who knows my name is in Cambridge at the moment.

Hey guys, check out the Dream Theater site - is it slow or is it slow? Those guys must be fantastically busy right now.

remember Remembrance day Stop for a minute to think of all the people who have died or been paralysed trying to protect the free world.

Invigor Nice pics man, you looked stoked fer sure ;-)

Michelle If my memory serves me correctly BS started playing clubs young in different bands playing covers in different styles and he worked long and hard. You can read all the theory in the world but if you ain't playing you ain't connecting with the instrument- its all about the vibe ! (ask Clarky - rofl) No substitute for 'neck time' ;-)

Stu Clone - EADG goin' down! Did he say sorry in his email?

Lyz - Sorry to hear that about your amp....

Invigor - Nice pics! The Clones have been let loose!

Michelle - Joey Love?! That's twisted! A roo and a dude is just not right. And Happy 900 btw...

Ovation - Thanks man. A Villa Strangiato Cover....oooo... that has got ta be da bomb!

Happy Remembrance Day everybody. A guy I know well actually went to Ottawa to lay a wreath by the monument during the ceremony, he won an essay contest.

Hmm, I'm still not too sure about the BS thing. I mean, it must have taken me all of 5 minutes to learn to read tab. People who say "I can't read any form of music at all", I think, "Have you been trying extra extra hard to keep yourself pure or something, because I don't see any other way you could have avoided it. Do you view notation as an evil or something?"

About the tab thing... He probably could read tab, but really... why would you want to. Awhile back I got an email from Andy Timmons, and he gave me some good advice. "Use your ears, not tab!" lol... I kinda wish I didn't have the option of tab in the beginning. Figuring stuff out by ear is more rewarding and makes you a better musician in my opinion. Though I'm not the best at it, I still try and work stuff out, or at least attempt to, by ear.

And we all know who has the best ears... cause Homer Simpson can "hear pudding" ;)...

And as for Dream Theater... I haven't heard the new album yet, but... more stuff like Peruvian Skies and I'm happy! That tune is awesome.

mick 87 - I can read music notation and there are definately serious advantages... if I have an idea and I'm no where neer a guitar I can just score it out so I don't forget .. then I can look at it later and see if it was as good as I thought.. lol

when working out other peoples riffs and solos I do that by ear... it's just so good for you to do this.. you're ear just gets better and better the more you do of it..

however, another form of good medicine is to sit down with a lute suite by JS Bach and sight read it...

reading means that you can analyse a score of a piece of music and find out what makes it tick - can be very useful.. especially if you are into writing music...

I'm not a big fan of tab...

and 'cos I've not needed to do it for quite some time... my sight reading seriously sux right now... but it's just like falling off a bike...

Hi Joe, From Mexico i question (sorry, my english is shit)

In the G3 Tour, do you think to visit Latin America, in special Mexico?, we love you, vai and malmsteen too.

The past G3 was excellent, john petrucci made a good job, but, in this G3 all fans are expectating with the incorporation of Malmsteen. Other thing, when play the 3 guitar players in the same time, what songs are you play?, I think that one of Hendrix, Queen and Led Zeppelin.

I wait your response, and thanks. Viva México cabrones.

Today has been a weird day. I woke up just to realize that I have unconciousely switched off my alarm clock. Then wrote 2 papers in 1.5hrs and went to class. Half the class was asleep. No professor or TA appeared for the next class. Then we had chicken burger but no buns for lunch.

Hey... tab theft... the guy stealing my tabs sent me an email, to which I made a long-widned reply in my typical fashion... I'd love to post the email in some public forum, and then when he's like "hey, that's not cool" i just say, "oh, sorry i reproduced something of yours without your permission"

is this:
a.) righteous
or
b.) twisted
?

StringG I have been playing guiutar for 1 1/2 years and Joe has been my main insperation. Him and his music is all I listen to besieds other instrumentals like Steve Vai, John Petrucci and thos guys are good to but I only listen to electric guitar music. Mostly Joe. He is the best there is, thers is no question about that, there are others but they are the best in there own way. I would pick Joe over Hendrix any day.

Crispin, that's cool that David Lee Roth is venturing onto our island (brave man). I wonder what his stuff is like these days........I bet it's not the same without Stevie.
The Forogtten (Part 2) For G3!
Sharif, have you come across that Toyota Tacoma Hillclimb? It has to be the most schizo car I've seen. It climbed the hill at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed this year, and it's driver had a hard time contorlling it every time he changed gear, it's that powerful!
I'm with sugarbear and surferdave on this one, if you write music purely by theory, your kinda turning it from music into maths. And thats not art. Music should be expressive
dave wren, Joe, Steve and Yngwie won't be over here early next year. I was wondering if there was anybody who actually owned one of those BC Rich guitars with the ass on. now I know.
Jelly Stew, good to hear your review of "Train Of Thought". I'd completely forgotten it was out already! I gotta get me a copy of that, think I'll order it soon.
Hill groove For G3!
Anuj, Billy Sheehan is an excellent example of someone who has no theory training but is a GODLIKE player, well done! I'd forgotten that detail....he is damn good.
Petrucci made a guest appearance with G3? madness! That must have kicked so much ass, seeing JP joining JS in a quick rendition of Summer Song!
Clarky, did you say you put electrical tape over the bushes on your edge trem arm? and that's what makes it stay-put? An intigueing technique, I must say.
Stu Clone, that's righteous bro', all the way.

Clarky: yeah... Joe's guitars have a compound radius to the fretboard. Up top, it's similar to a strat. I think it's about a 12-13" inch radius. Then the radius gradually widens towards the body. I think it's something like 15-16" at the body. I'm not exactly sure what they measure, check the Ibanez site, they may have the dimensions posted. Anyway, Gary has stated that he has to shim the saddles in order to get it as low as Joe likes. If your axe has a single radius to it, just put some shims under the saddles to match, and you're all set. You may have to make them. I made mine out of brass, with a dremel tool. I wanted the base of my edge to be the same height at both the treble and bass sides, so I shimmed the lower three saddles to make up the distance.

Hope that helps.

Laters.....

Kell
