Hi Everyone,
I just got broadband and just watched the amsterdam webcast again. Damn that's a good show. I noticed that he does a lot of improvisation on that particular show. More so than any joe concert I've ever been too. I was surprised to find the webcast still there.

tapper5 - The Steve Morse DVD is titled Sects, Dregs, and Rock 'N' Roll. It's awesome.
Invigor - Sorry...you lose. ;-) I think you're good for second place, though.
I met up with a guy at the 10/18 G3 show who flew to Los Angeles from Germany. His name is Mathias and he's posted here a few times. I can't remember his username right now, though...geeze, I have a bad memory.
Steevlan1 - I've heard great things about Derek Trucks. I think he actually opened for Joe a few years ago...maybe it was on the CP tour.
Stu Clone - I bet the preorder contest will be run through a Sony store. If I had to guess, I would say the store will be somehow connected to this site.
You should be able to cancel your preorder at Amazon so you can buy it through this contest as soon as the details are worked out. Keep in mind, though, that you'll probably pay more for the DVD buying it through Sony's store than you would through Amazon or CD Universe.
The Big Question - Is it worth the possible extra money for a chance to win an autographed copy when you will most likely be able to meet Joe at a future gig and have him autograph it in person?
...Austin...

I just got back from G3 at the Beacon Theatre, and let me just say, I was totally blown away! I knew I was in for a treat, but I was not expecting a show of that magnitude. The guest appearance of John Petrucci and Neil Shon was awesome. Thanks for a GREAT show. Keep on rockin! Hey, when do tickets for next year's show go on sale?
Sincerely,
Chuck W

michelle - happy 900 girlie..
Kell - shimming the the saddles... now that sounds like an idea... I'm guessing but I figure around 0.5mm would do it nicely
top idea bro.. I'm wondering if shimming the 3rd and 4th to shorten the radius would be best in my case..
mischievous - if you want to learn to read again it'll just take some effort... like anything else 'the more of it you do the easier it becomes'..
most players know very little theory.. not knowing it doesn't really hurt too much.. and knowing it won't make you a better player...
However, knowing it would certainly give you more options when improvising and writing
you're diffinately better off know more than less.. but if you're not too bothered about it and pretty happy as you are then there's no point in breaking a sweat over it either...
the most important thing is that you love playing
phryg dom - go careful when sharpening the unsharpenables... eye protection must be worn.. lmao..
mick 87 - all that shit takes time.. and lots of it too... When I was writing The Rape of the Sabine Women, had the overall idea for the riffs and themes on platform 4 [I think] London Bridge station on the way home from work.. the trains were all up the shit for some reason so I grabbed a coffee and stood on the platform staring out into the rain... I was remembering the painting that the track is based upon.. the Roman soldiers, the castle, the women in between.. like some epic struggle... I imagined the Roman army like this unstoppable machine sweeping everything away before it.. until it got inside the castle and went into a frenzy of looting, burning, killing and rape.. some women hiding inside a shrine... the soldiers beating at the huge door with a ram [which is the quiet section.. the bass drum is the ram on the doors].. then the doors give way and all shit breaks loose...
so this short movie is forming in my mind... and I start to hear the sound track.. parts of it at least.. the riff, the drums, the choirs, the french horns and trumpets etc... I frantically start writing about the overall 'form' based upon events in my little mental movie and then I start scoring little ideas out on napkins.. riffs, chords, brass parts.. I run out of napkins and ask a woman if I can have hers.. she smiles at me most and passes me hers most likely thinking 'if a hairy 230lb psychopath asks you for napkins to write gibberish on... you give him napkins and smile'.. lol..
that night I'm sitting in front of Cubase inputting my ideas from the train..
being able to hear the whole band and the whole orchestra in my head and then notate what I hear has huge advantages.. you never know when you're going to get inspired... it don't always happen when you're sitting with a guitar or in front of a piano... it just happens.. so it's very cool if you can capture it.
climber - it depends upon what you want the studio for and what your situation is [band-wise]..
my situation is that I have no regular band.. so I write and sequence the backing tracks.. so most important to me was a PC with Cubase and a nice keyboard workstation [like my Korg Triton].. this is essentially a 'writers suite'...
I added the 16 track later...
if you have a band with a drummer, bassist etc.. all you need is a nice portasudio [like the Yamaha AW16G] and a couple of nice general purpose mic's [like Sure SM58's]
so what exactly is your situation...

Sammy Andrews, I'll let you know how it turns out with the Jap DS-1, that is of course if I win the auction.
Jake 49'rs, if your beef is with musicians who do drugs in general, then there's a lot of "losers" out there. Probably guys that you think are the greatest. Jimi was a product of the times, and I also must say that he died from an overdose of sleeping pills, not heroin or drugs like that. It was an accident. Although there was some debate over whether or not he killed himself, but I don't think it was in his character to do that.........my two cents on Jimmy James.

Hi Joe,
I was just wondering if you'd be coming back to Singapore? You had to cancel your trip here the last time due to the SARS epidemic. So any chance of you returning? 'Cos many of us had bought tickets to attend your concert and guitar clinics, but were very disappointed to learn about the cancellations.
Thanks and cheers!

GregM Ordered it from Amazon yesterday- but they said it would be 10-12 days!!! Not sure I can last that long without a "fix"!!! Hey, while you're up in York don't forget to pop into the Bonding Warehouse (pub) if you want to meet up with York's most famous "export" (Shed Seven, remember them? They're still touring!!!!)
Mick87 True, that song rocks! Unusual album, ...Infinity, not my fave but not as bad as many people say, IMHO. Peruvian is great, as is Lines in the Sand (Kings X should've been bigger!!)
Enough!! Must return to my "interesting" paperwork....
