dck that's totally amazing man!!!

Paul it changes daily lol... lots of times it's a Joe day (natch), but other times I could be in a Randy Rhoads mood, or a Kings X mood, or even an Oasis mood lol... and they're certainly not in any order of "greatness" (whatever that means)... just an order of who I'd rather listen to that particular day.... and today's list is different to yesterday's LOL!!

Laters, enjoy your weekend everyone... Dave

danny k: Hey man, that's a great site!! It's got me hooked right away with Dr. VAI's quote at the top: May I be so bold as to make the following declaration :The guitar is the best instrument in the world. You probably don't take exception to such a deliciously arrogant statement, because you're probably a guitar player yourself, right...?, lol!! btw, nice exercise you got on there bro, glad to see things are well for ya!!....

Hell yeah P/\\/L!!.... Dave Martone is on the list too, lol, I just gotta make sure I include everyone on one big-a** order!! ;-)

Right on D/\\/E!!.... and they're certainly not in any order of "greatness" (whatever that means)... just an order of who I'd rather listen to that particular day.... and today's list is different to yesterday's.... You nailed it there man, nuff said!! ;-)

BTW, that site Danny posted has a great Interview page!!.... Killer player's there!!

l8ta all....

Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat......

I have an office party tonight and I'm planning to hijack the DJ box and stick on a few track's from 'Merry Axemas' - might leave Joe's track to the end though.

Top 5 guitarists? That's hard - like trying to name your top 5 women. Anyway here goes (in no particular order). J Satriani J Petrucci E Johnson R Rhoads Y Malmsteen

Ovation - Hey how's it going? Thanks for checking out the lesson. Guitarist Heaven.com is a pretty cool site. I hope it keeps growing. Things with me are going good, looking forward to being able to record more on the Christmas break.

ovation - cleaning up the mix really is painful.. when it's done I know that I'll be totally insane.. PRO TOOLS or Soundscapes.. I wish I had that.. wave editing is so much nicer with those applications....

r6r - start small.. maybe think of a little chord progression .. name a mode you like or maybe one at random... re-calculate the chords in the new mode and see what happens.. cause and effect... some bits will sound great and others may be quite bad... experiment.. tweak... experiment some more... the main part though is your ears... listen carefully to how things changed..
Nick - me teach at ATM??? haha.. I bet they've got all bases well covered and could do without me rambling on and on.. lol..

consecutive 8ve's and 5th's are bad in four part harmony because they can make the music sound bland.. from 1600 to something like 1900 they were seriously avoided...

song writing - ok.. looking at the music you listen to you maybe think on widening the scope a little.. something really different... not metal.. join the local library and grab some cd's... if you don't like them you won't be seriously out of pocket...
have you tried writing music far from any instrument... just be hearing something in your head and making notes on paper.. think themes too.. videos in your mind... set them to music..

Well, this being my first post i dunno what to say.

I tihnk its great how Satch tought Hammett and Vai, (if the Vai part is true?) its just madness. In my opinion he has made one of my fave badns, without hammett i dont tihnk metallica would be as great as they are today (apart from the new stuff).

Imma getting the g3 dvd at christmas after downloading satch boogie/cool #9 etc im now an addict. Anyhow, keep up good work, what kinda stuff goes on here anyhow?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this site, can someone give me a few pointers on how it works? I noticed a few of you are regulars, how does everyone feel about new comers?

Hope we can be friends.

hey Mackiedoo,

welcome to the site! we all like newcomers, the more the merrier. how the site works... well the T2J (=talk to Joe) mostly has a very lovely atmosphere, Joe pops in once in a while, u can read his messages if u click Joe Messages above.
since there is the Edit option, we like it if u dont multiplepost us. i c uve already "met" the Edit button.
the chatroom is sometimes dark and empty, but dont lose hope, sometimes even 6 peps gather and chat :). if u have msn, a few of us chat in a multiple-peps chat there. just tell me your msn email and ill add u to the list.
Austin is the unofficial FAQ man, but some of us know answers to some FAQs, too. Clarky and Yoda are the music masters, they answer the technical music questions :). Michelle is person of the year :)... To name a few T2Jers.

Austin usually says: tell us about yourself, whatz your faw Satch song... and ill add: who are your top five guitarists and which is your fav pick :)? those were the last "poll" kind of questions here.

hope i helped :)
.mischievous (damn, today ive a hard time spelling this miself)

clarky...thanks for the help..i try to set a song around a theme so it makes some sort of sense...when i was working (before i went to acm)...i had ideas running thru my head..and when i got home..i tried to play them..it kinda worked. tv progammes have music in..i sometimes get ideas from that too. maybe some al di meola could do something...or allan holdsworth. at the moment..i think i've been listening to too much iron maiden..and its reflecting in my songs..with a kinda gallopy kinda feel to it. i need some new things to listen to...but i'm not that good at listening to new types of music....

Thanks mischievous, greatly appreciated. Yes, I have met the edit button already. I read the little blurb above before I posted. What I don't understand is how you bold, italicize and add the line.

As for my fav guitarists........that is a very difficult question to answer. I'll give you the top few that HAVE to be on my list.

1. Hendrix 2. Jeff Beck 3. Of course Joe (My husband and I went to the G3 show in Concord, Ca. 4. Steve Vai 5. George Lynch 6. All the Blues masters that preceded us and made it all possible.

I'd tell you about myself, but I wouldn't want to put anyone to sleep. I tend to talk too much.

Hey Joe, love the web site and of course, love the music! I want to put in a good word for a guy I just saw perform last night in Chicago who I think would make an excellent addition to the next G3 tour. Gary Hoey basically rocked the doors off the hinges in Chi-town, and showed that he not only has a great range of talent, but is also a really nice guy that can really engage the audience. I would definitely enjoy seeing him play along side you guys the next time around.

The Prez- because of you I remembered that after 6 days LOTR will be in almost every cinema around the world. Except in ours. I'll be able to see it on the 7th of January. I still can't believe that The Matrix: Revolution was on the day of the first night. And we all know that LOTR is much better than the third part of The Matrix.

jelly man, Check out Eric Johnson's "Venus Isle" and "Alien Love Child: Live And Beyond" records. The former has some truly beautiful melodies, and the latter is all live except one studio track on the end. EJ's live improvisation is exceptional, and musically, I prefer him to Joe and Steve. But that's just me.

Speaking of EJ/Venus Isle....I recieved my Venus Isle Lithograph from Max Crace today. It is simply stunning. Oh, and huge! hehe. It's hand numbered and signed by Max, and signed by EJ himself! lovely stuff. Also has a certificate of authenticity with it with the print number, and my name on it. cool!
Artanis 1, yeah it was Steve who mentioned a G3 release early next year. 'early' means 'before half-way-through'! hehe
SOTD: Pavilion/Venus Reprise ~ Eric Johnson
I would rather see bush as president, and Arnie as governor of state, than see Joe in either position, and my reason is this ~ If joe were president or governor, he wouldn't have time to write his strange, beautiful music; I'd rather put up with a complete twat being in charge of the USA and being able to hear more of Joe, than be deprived but have a musical genius voicing the word of his cabinet from the top of the hill.
mamik, are you serious? you want Joe's private e-mail address? well, this isn't the place to ask. I'm sure if any of us knew it, we still wouldn't share it, cuz we know what is appropriate.
Ethn, if you look at the transcriptions of Vai's parts in crossroads, it doesn't seem plausible that it was sped up, because it all looks (and sounds) legitimate! Also, why would he bother speeding up something that is already stupidly fast in places?! hehe, your guess is as good as mine
hey mischievous! I feel a 'happy 100 to you' coming on! hehehe
baker, yeah Joe did teach Vai.
mackiedoo, welcome! a few pointers.....well, we welcome newcomers who play to the same rules and are sociable. we don't like people who come on, and the first thing they do is multi-post a stupid question probably won't get answered. Apart from that, it's up to you. Unless you're really anti-social, I'm sure we can all be friends! hehe.

if you want to make something bold you put a [ then a b, then a ] then type your word. at the end of the word or sentence you want bold you put another [ then type /b then a ] again!. For italics just replace the 'b' with an 'i'. to put a horizontal line do the open-bracket, type hr then do the close-bracket.
