Yoda - oh yes.. I know what you mean about the 'falling down stairs' trip.. Lagrene / Metheny style..

I like it where they build a little lick / figure and then take it on a trip... say there's a groove on a C11 vamp.. and this little idea starts in G pent.. then C pent.. then gets twisted linear style and squeezed into C Myxo.. then re-forms to Cm pent through to F pent.. then passes go and picks up 200 squids.. comes back at yer Lyd Dom.. then becomes a C13 arp but the overall contour is maintained.. this kind of thinking of yer feet is mindblowing.. Don Mock is super shit hot at it... if you can get hold of this tutorial vid.. called something like 'from blues to jazz'.. or what ever.. the trick to this is selecting the sort of figure that sounds very cool no matter what you do to it.. like even when it's upside down, inside out and on fire.. lol..

If you're into shredders with a hint of jazz.. check out Lukather on his solo stuff.. Candyman is great...

My style has jazz, bebop and fussion components but they are not immendiately as obvious.. often cos I don't really dwell on the idea long enough [so it'll sound metal but with an unusual twist here and there].. but mostly because I'm a tasteless dipstick with one foot on the whammie bar trying to dive a harmonic in ultra-violet frequencies down to d.c. and the other foot on the Crybaby trying to make a really bad idea sound hip.. lol.

actually... typing so many words that say fuck all is my job so fuck off... lmao... unless of course you are my worthy apprentice that'll be taking over from me when I die.. which really shouldn't be too long now.. so crack on...

happy 20th post and 400 hundridf barfday...

ovation - the link desperiment was just to prove to myself that I can have these fleeting moments where I almost know what I'm doing... it was just a fleeting moment and it's unlikely that I'll be able to do it again..

funny parallel that, places called Oki... in places where wind kills you..

another place where wind kills is my house, the morning after a serious Ruby.. [London slang: Ruby Murrey = Curry]

Jazzer - the guitarist in Nitro may be Michael Angelo... sounds like a sewing machine to me... and looks like something out of Spinal Tap on stage..
Luke - string guage is personal preference.. the general rule is: light guages are easy to play, heavy guages sound better and have more sustain.. the most common guage is 009.. I used to use 10's on my Strat.. but the Ibe's don't feel right to me with them.. so to avoid having lots of different packets of strings around I dropped the Strat to 009 to match my Ibe's..

I use Ernie Ball Hybribs.. the plain strings follow the guages from a set of 009's and the wrapped strings follow the gauges from a set of 10's... to me it's the best of both worlds.. it's not for everyone though.. as a newish player it's something that you'll have to try out for yourself...

If you're not sure though.. just stick to 009 guage Ernie Ball or something like that and you won't go wrong..

michelle - haha.. webcam in the pub... parental guidence... lol... not exactly Queens English.. occasional nudity.. occasional barf.. the odd fight.. but a whole lot of unitelligable shit spoken absolutely all of the time.. it'll most likely only make sense to the guys that are actually there.. in it.. not knowing what they're going on about.. and not able to be on the net cos they are there.. in it.. lol.. however, there may be security cctv footage somewhere.. esecially when we was walking down the high street with a wardrobe we found... it made sense at the time..

how did Cher get famous.. she cant sing and looks like a bulldog chewing a wasp...???

MattMartinez - very nice time machine gig list...: I was at The Wall, 1984 EVH, All your Satch gigs, DLR Eat 'em.. for Rush I'd have chosen Permanent Waves..

Clarky Out of all the gigs on that list I would probably like to have seen Pentangle the most (at the moment anyway)
but mostly because I'm a tasteless dipstick with one foot on the whammie bar trying to dive a harmonic in ultra-violet frequencies down to d.c. and the other foot on the Crybaby trying to make a really bad idea sound hip.. lol. roflmao man, so half of your creative energy actually goes on trying to undo the other then ? lol I'd say you come out of it sounding pretty good ;-)
as for Cher, she used to look like a bulldog chewing a wasp with a big nose - lmao.
and before I go man check out my latest solo............... dumpf bang bang Oww, unf unf unf, urghh, bang, bang, bang, arrgghhh, lord have mercy!, dumf, dumf, dumf..................... now that's what falling down the stairs really sounds like - heh heh.

Slanshroom Quality time to yourself, I find, is indispensible and at the same time hard to come by. There are a lot of things we miss each day around us, its been a while since I marvelled at the number of leaves of on tree. More power to you bro' and best wishes for 2004.

Mick 87 roflmao at the Sponge Maiden stuff, pure quality ;-)

Dave I got your mail dude, I'll get back to you when I know what the chords are ! Don't tell me, its about time I worked my cells a bit, you can tell me I'm wrong later ;-)

Ovation That's was actually Dave's brother Paul who plays keyboards for him and helped him into the technical age, scary pic though.

Yoda Happy Birthday Dude ! ;-)

mikesb: Victims of The Future, that's the album man!!.... Yeah, back in Gary's political day's, he was a mad man back then lol, and his blues now is like no other!!.... I love his emotional playing!!.... I really get into it!!....

michelle: On your most annoying singers - Celine Dion's voice makes me want to drive hot roofing nails in my ears. Me too dammit, her RRRRRR's drive me crazy, and I dont mean to offend anyone, but her voice just makes me cringe!!.... Axl Rose makes me turn off the radio immediately. Same thing for me too!!.... I was a little older when Gun's and Hoser's first came out and never liked em'.... Poser band IMHO, and Axl drove me nut's with his voice!!.... This is the group that killed heavy rock IMHO!!....

....OK guy's listen up (hehe, lol).... I went back to the shop this afternoon and the salesman I bought it from was not there.... No biggie.... btw, Zach your 25 Dr. Vai's came in and I'll get em' off to ya this week :-).... So the 2 guy's I showed it to said that the scarf joint can be repaired easily there!!!!.... They would pull the headstock off and put some new maple back in there and they told me I would'nt even notice the difference!!!!.... How bout' that shit!!.... AND they can make the fretboard come alive again (refinish) all for only $200!!.... Now, the refinish and repair (minor ding on the body past the clearcoat) on the body is another story.... They cannot do it there and suggested it may cost some high $$ to get IBY to do it.... lol, I'm gonna get an estimate on that!!.... Yo Ethn, if you got your ears on, I got a shop here that will re-maple the bad area of the neck on your FP and you'll never notice the repair!!!!.... Only a couple hundra (like $200 or less) to fix it!!.... I'll hook you up if you want bro!!.... I'll talk em' down past that to get them International business.... Then show em' Zach's Trembolt, and all hell will break loose!!.... lol

Anyone ... I'm listening to some truely great, organic music by Mr. Raycharles LaMontagne. Amazing stuff! Great song writing and soulful vocals. If you get a chance, have a listen to his material. He's real.

s1220 the Fred works for (probably) hundreds of thousands of people, but I never really liked it from the day I got it. It's just not me enough lol. It replaced a Kent Armstrong single-coil sized rails pickup (model STHR) but that's in another guitar now (Lapis), so I got a standard sized humbucker to go back there by the bridge.

eta this site looks pretty good. I'm sure the other guys here can give you other links too. I'm not a tab kinda guy myself... there's an English Satch tribute site somewhere that has tons of tabs & backing tracks... can't remember the address though, sorry :-(

Mikey, G&R was o.k. for the first 5 minutes of their career. I liked "Welcome to the Jungle" and whatever album that was on, but everything after that went down hill IMO. The total sinking point where I couldn't tolerate Axle one more second was when he redid Live & Let Die. He sounded like freakin' Ethel Merman! His "come back" last year on whatever video show that was was very entertaining. Remember the show where he played with Buckethead? I'm trying to forget I ever saw that one. lol! My breaking point with Cher - that horribly synthed song Do You Believe in life after love. OMG, kill me now! lol! My breaking point with Celine was the Titanic song. Her stint as Peter Pan didn't help much either. lmao! I'm not saying they're not talented, but they're certainly not my cup o' tea. lol!

r6r - now try that lick again but with wah... it'll sound great... wah seems to be very forgiving to poor technique.. although I'm not insulting you by saying that you slung it down the stairs wrong.. or the second unf was flat or anything... jeez.. digging me self in deeper.....

er.. dude that sounds soooo cooooeeell..

ha..

swiftly moving on... let's just not talk about Cher.. that kind of talk gives me the urge to get a virginity re-transplant so that I can join a monstery.. jeez.. a Cher is a monster enough to live in a Monstery.. so even if I were a Monk I'd still not be safe... shit dude what did I ever do to deserve this.. like I dont even tread on spiders...

Jeez.. gov health warning: looking at a Cher is just like soo way bad for like just er sorta everything.. shit dude.. like dont do it..

on a seriouser [but only just] note.. you're right.. one side of my creativity works to counter act my destructivity.. it means that I am a balanced player... so even in musical terms.. every action has an equal and opposite reaction.. so when the creativity starts getting all scew.. out comes the wah...

infact, I'm wondering if there is an equal and opposite anti-Clarky.. and he plays real cool, in time and in tune all the time.. if I find him I'm gonna jump on him to cancel that bastard out... no way I'm letting him exist..

ovation - nice one on the neck.. scarf joints are a known weakness.... I dont know if you noticed from the pics but Avarice dont have a scarf joint.. it's just one big chunk of maple tree with an ebony over coat and frets...
