KEVT03, Yes indeed, it was more a timing thing that the "Squares" were around the same studio at the same time as Crowded House!!! But it is true, Joe has referenced this "gig" in other interviews as well!!! Check out Greg Kihn "Love & Rock & Roll" as well, some pretty good pop solos by Joe (mixed way too low mind you) and of course Joe with hair wearing a Magnum PI hawaiian shirt on the cover!!! (North American release anyway)

Death Cube K, Slanshroom, thanks for your help. I have now bought XP, & when I have found my way around it, I will get a firewire card for the ipod. BUT XP doesn't always support your software that you already have !!!! I needed to update the Drivers for my scanner. Oh good Fun !! Has Joe been in this week? I've not time to keep up with the posts.

Ddo the stu - dude... lol .. have you any idea of the time I'm about to waste playing with these little squiggles and things in Word... lol..

r6r - splitting the routines the way you show is much more important if you train 4 times per week as you have to be careful of ripping ripped fibre... as I only do 3 times per week [at 1 1/2 to 2 hours per session] with a day in between for repair and recovery, my routing is fine... I enjoy training a great deal... but 4 times a week would be too much for me... the little bit I do.. my system is working well for me though..

and if you have a crawling, scabby old minging Doris around 30 mins after training you "crab up"... lmao..

b.t.w. - I love the Harry Carpenter one... lmao...

I heard about a girl once who walked into a bar and asked the bar man "can I please have a double entendre"... and so he gave her one..

fnarf fnarf yak yak Finbar.....

"CARENZA Lewis about finding food in the Middle Ages on Time Team Live said: "You'd eat beaver if you could get it." "
this ones not funny at all... I think it still applies today...

Ovation - I don't mind manuals at all really... living in them is part of the day job.. by comparison MIDI is not too difficult.. the way i figure.. the AW and Cubase are either going to talk nice or ignore each other... if I can't get it working within 4 hours, I'll give Yammie tech support a call the next day for ideas... if they draw a blank I'll go back to the ol' DIY method... lol..

the cool thing about all of this is... should I get this working.. it'll set the tone for the mixing process for the rest of the album... lab coat on... no pain no gain.. like even if the pain is in yer head...

If I were you I'd grab a few Orions and breeze down to the nephews place... what him do his production stuff and mixing.. see how he goes about it and maybe you'll be able to translate some of his techniques onto your own recording set-up... the biggest trick to put the gloss on a recording is the post production stuff... overall eq and multi-band compression.. if he has this stuff you may want to bribe him into helping you when you come to master your own toonz..

Hanging Salad - a little note about this... if I recall correctly.. this was the original name for 'Satan Salad".. my mate talked me out of this name as it was deemed crass and inappropriate [just like me really]... so the song got a new name but I managed to hang onto the Salad part [fnarf fnarf]..

picture that tho... Hanging Salad but in a Satanic sense... like the salad of biblical proportions with the power to bring death and destruction to entire cities... cooowelll.. lol
in fact.. I'm sure I've known a few mingers of that ilk..

Tastey - I'm gonna turn over a new leaf and be a nice boy.. all polite.. civil... curtious... and never ever not ever not up to no good... make me mam proud...
JP's playing... although hugely impressive... technically stunning.. intelligent.. calculated.. mind blowing at times... just dont always 'do it' for me...

stuff like Pull Me Under, Under a Glass Moon and Erotomania do 'do it' for me... but so much of it seems to be technical centric.. his tone too.. I have mixed feelings about it.. like jeez... what an amazing tone.. and jeez.. it's so crisp and clean it seems kinda stagnant...

I admire JP enourmously.. and I drift from amazed to disinterested.. even over the same moment of guitar playing... screwy mixed feelings....

CLarky: The new Rolando VGA-8 I think....is supposed to have tracking that is so good it could keep up with a really sloppy player even. Marty Freidman apparently used a VGA-8 for guitar and amp modeled sounds(via) midi then ran it into his poweramp for his album "Music For Speeding." I'm not on a midi kick or anything, it just seems like if I ever needed strings or other instruments in a song that a guitar would much more realistically contol a midid patch. I guess in theory if you had the midi system hooked up to a Trirton you could trigger it's sounds with the guitar right?

This whole PAF JOE pickup seems strange since the FRED was originally designed as a slightly brighter, slightly higher output PAFPRO that was meant to work with the PAFPRO....so why is there the need to redesign he PAFPRO after almost 20yrs using it in the JS series?

anibur, when we got XP, it wasn't compatable with our scanner, which sucked hard, especially since I just learned how to use it properly :(

ocps - this midi guitar thing is interesting.. and yes I'd expect to be able to trigger sounds out of the Triton with it too... If I recall correctly, you can even assign a different midi channel to each strng.. this means that you couls do odd stuff like - double bass on the 6th string.. piano on the 3rd, 4th and 5th.. trumpet on the 1st and 2nd..

for me though none of this would work.. for the type of music I write.. I want my string and brass sections to behave just like real stirng and brass sections.. essentially four independant parts based upon the 'bass, tenor, alto, soprano' model.. which would be pretty much impossible for a single guitarist to play...

however.. for more synthetic moments and stuff where being 'authentic' is not an issue, I bet having this would be a lot of fun and could well lead to some interesting and creative ideas...

a sound that would interest me would be a mad sythn lead mixed with my conventional lead tone.. and I know that this can be done.... bend the two and go mental... lol..

maybe I'll look at this stuff seriously one day... but only if I have the spare cash to throw at it that dont need to be thrown elsewhere....

PAF JOE???? is this a crass marketing exercise??

michelle - ha haaa... look at the post above and you'll notice that I did say fuck or talk about girlies flanges even once... see I can be nice... and now I'm reading this post back to myself... doh ! ! !

TASTEY.....we get along with each other really well and we're both really laid back, so I don't see any immediate problems. She loves my kids almost as much as I do, so she's "in like flynn"

tastey - bad boys eh??

screw the new leaf... woohoo...

hmm.. how do I explain fit without gettin' slapped..... hmmm

fit as fuck = very cute / pretty.. a bit of a sweetie [if you're a nice boy]

to the posh kids it means "top tottie"

it also means "seriously shag-able / wouldn't boot her out of the sack / a bit of a sort / a well tidy bird" [to the bad boys including those of that are newly leaf-less]...

so in the crudest and most uncouth sense.. it really is quite a compliment...

although pointing this out to a girlies husband would no doubt require vigerous and enthusiastic self defense... lol..

SupaaDave - more like...... it's lucky that I'm the one with the sense of humour... it's me that the goons end up getting sent around to so that they can apply some good ol' fashon learnin'.. y'know.. the kind with a size 9 and a big stick.. lol...
jeez... why do I always end up the victim... ?? ?? lmao..

Hey guys! How's everybody been these past couple of weeks? I finally moved into my new house and everything is going great on this end. Anybody tried out Joe's new Peavey amp or his new Dimarzio PU? I'd love to hear some feedback. Glad to be back.

Hi Joe: As if my stealthy nick name didnt give it away, I am a US Army soldier called to active duty, and serving in Afghanistan since June 2003. I dont go home until March/April 2004...and have no chance to take leave.

I have been jamming to "Strange Beautiful Music", and "Surfing with the Alien" here when I can, to make the time go faster!

We get minimal live entertainment here (7000 soldiers on base) let alone good rock acts... IS THERE ANY POSSIBILITY THAT YOU COULD PLAY HERE IN AFGHANISTAN BEFORE I LEAVE ?

It would be great to have you "drop some jaws" of the rock fans on base here! I will hook you up with the Rec director if you can come! It would be great to hear your version of the Star Spangled Banner!

A friend of mine set up this online photo gallery for me...take a look for some cool pics that you wont see on TV! CLICK HERE!

Thanks for your time, Joe, and hope you can support us troops looking for a morale booster!
