well JS JP 41, i hope that was just sarcastic jealousy - if so, sorry - if not, right back atcha then bro.

i'm just curious why nobody is talking about this upcoming show - it's a HUGE event to say the least! perhaps not many people know about it yet - or everybody knew except me and it's old news - or getting there is impossible - or nobody cares? whatever the case, i thought for sure the general convo would focus on it for at least an hour...

joe - give us some details whenever you can bro - i'm dying here!! =)

Hey all, some more snippets of my interview with joe!!!

Interview with Joe Satriani March 25, 1998 Describe the creative process of being an instrumental composer and performer.

“Well this particular record was unique in how we got started for two reasons. I didn’t make demos number one and number two, I played the songs for the guys on a guitar in a rehearsal space, I just played and we talked about it. And then we rehearsed the record live like we could have played it as a live show. That had a profound difference cause on the other records I gave people very detailed demos and right from the beginning they felt they perhaps had to copy something I had already laid down and we did a lot of overdubbing of peoples performances piece by piece. This one was done more in the spirit of experimentation. But the inspirations for songs come from everyday life.”

Z.Z. your son inspired one song and is credited on three songs on Crystal Planet. The three songs all have percussive intros, what was his input, how old is he and what is the origin of his name?

“That’s quite a coincidence actually. Just a coincidence. There are funny coincidences on the record. Someone said to me it’s really cool that track five and track ten were both in 5/4 and 10/8 time, it was purely by coincidence. They thought it was some master plan. Z.Z., he comes up with some funny things as children always do. Interesting statements that are improvised in the funniest of situations but wound up sounding very profound to a grownup. He’s five and a half now, but ‘Psycho Monkey’ was something he came up with two or three years ago waking up in the middle of the afternoon after a bad dream and I was working on a song at the time so it was a coincidence of things. ‘A Piece of Liquid’ was something he just said trying to describe his level of thirst. And then one day we were looking at clouds and I was teaching him the names of the different kinds of clouds cumulus, nimbus, stratus and then he just said well daddy look at that those clouds they look like a ‘Train of Angels’ and I thought it was really beautiful so that’s how he contributed to the songs. ‘Z.Z.’s Song’ was actually something I had written when my wife was pregnant with him and we used to plug in with this little amp and some headphones and put the headphones on my wife’s stomach. It was a song we used to use to calm him down to stop kicking. His name stands for Zachariah Zane, a loose translation means God has remembered John which is my fathers name and that’s how we arrived at that.”

Zonin - Man I'm sure the show will rock! I'd really love to go... but it's a location problem. You enjoy the show, it'll be a once in a lifetime concert! Cool MG cover too...

Mowlie - lol dude... Prague won't see it coming! Or the pubs at least...

JS JP 41 - wow is right, lol... that's ok dude. Machine Gun is a Jimi Hendrix tune.

Edit... zonin again... don't worry I'm a JH freak too. My favorites by him are Little Wing, Voodoo Chile (slight return), Hey Joe, All Along the Watchtower... the list goes on.

Mikesb - Cool little interview man!

sco lo ho fo...

TUPAC CAME BACK FROM THE DEAD (not really) now that i have your attention

I thought i drop in! hey everyone, im playing more than ever now and in the last couple of months iv been sitting through hours and hours a day of meditation then hours of guitar...

I just like to leave these words with the few who feel like something is missing in their lives, meditation isn't for everyone but if you ever feel like you can't appreciate things to their full extents and that you never feel fullfilled and content, like something is missing, the answer could very well be meditation. just before i started meditation i was depressed, the very first time ever, i was driving myself up the wall on questions that im sure we all ask ourselves, meaning of life ect. i felt alone yadyada but what meditation allows you to do is accept everything for what it really is, there are no problems in anybodys life, no negatives and no positives. there can only be a problem with your mind. meditation helps you sort your thoughts and lets you enjoy art and life to there full extent. now because of meditation every second of my life is full with an unbelievable peaceful happyniss. why walk through life when you can ride your bike? try and find somewhere in your area that is having a level 1 meditation course. it is the answer.

sorry for the advertisement but i strongly believe this.

song of the day

"NOT AGAIN" BY SHAWN LANE!!! (no fucking way man) i said when i heard it

JS_JP I know some Hendrix, I'm not a fan though. Not a big one anyway.

Stu Clone A senior citizen coming to the usa for Joe!I wish I would have that inspiration when I'm that old. 7 years old, I can't imagine listining to joe that young.

I didn't start listining to Joe until I was 16, a while after I learned to pla guitar. i got my first guitar in 2001, I actually first played in 1998, but not seriously until 2001.

WHo was that guy with that spiny thiny that says "Surfing with Satch", I forget the name of the thing, in the LISF dvd, was it MegaBoyd I heard he's on this forum, if that's true, I'd like to know where I can get one of them!

Mikesb Could you email the whole article for me? I was wanting to print it out, so I could read it when I'm at work!

Fusion5000 Meditation rules, doesn't Vai meditate?

Do the Stu i know you appear in the LISF DVD, but are you in any other dvd's by any other srtists, I know a couple of people from vai.com who are in his newest dvd.

I wonder if anyone here has been in a dvd besides the Livein San Fransisco. The only thing I've been in is a local commercial 10 years ago.

MegaBoyd MAn, wouldn't that be cool if your grandma was like that?

Crusingday62 No, Joe Rules!

I'd love to see the seattle show, but I can't because of location. i have never seen satch live, and I may never if he never comes around my area, but I put faith that he will in the summer tour, if he stops in the usa, that's one of my life goals before I die.

Request

Looking for The Riddle by Steve Vai, Full Version of Rude Mood by Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Bill's Private PArts by Steve Vai, I would aprriciate it, I collect tabs and make the best attempt at playing the songs.

I still have a probel with the crystal planet book, you really can't play along because the pages will turn, how do most people practice here, do you practice along with transciption, btw i have a music stand.
