Here's an expert guitar defining question: Which Satrani song is most challenging? Now for me, Satch Boogie is basically impossible, at the moment. The song i can play most of is the great: Tears In The Rain. A truly magnificent song to which i thank Joe Satriani for such beauty. Thanks man for everything! >eta<

Clarky: That is so kuul of you to teach the young-ins there bro!!.... What a great way to teach a child the team concept and I'm sure they all love Oliver Khan (sp?), lol!!.... Worlds best keeper by far!!....
You hit the nail on the head perfectly Paul while talking about their confidence, stature, character and maturity building along the way!!.... And it taking you back to the dojo days!!.... Ahhh, what awesome times those were.... Learning little bits and pieces from Sensei in a lifelong journey that leads beyond
just the Karateka.... It is the building of the human spirit....
I remember when my Sensei (Sensei Nagamine, Ryukyu Shorin-Ryu, and Kobudo) would come upstairs (dojo was the 2nd floor of his house) while we were halfway through our class (elder Black Belts taught the class, M-W-F, 2000-2200), and we would all turn and bow to Sensei.... We would continue our workout and he would come up to you and tell you to do a Kata or a movement.... He would watch you, then have you follow his lead.... Again, he would watch you and tell you to dip your shoulders..Strike fast..Block..Kick!!.... And then, Yosh!! (Kinda means "Great"!!).... He would then correct your moves (Little tweaks, and not in any way overloading like in a typical US dojo) and say Gambate (Never give up).... We would bow to him as he left, and he would turn and face the dojo and bow as he departed....
Those little tweaks of our Kata here and there, those pep talks..Those words of encouragement....
Karate is a lifelong never ending journey into the deep inner spirit that is in all of us.... And it is Sensei's job to help us bring it out!! Yosh!!....

eta - That means you fret the note at the ninth fret, and play a pinch harmonic on it. I'd say the hardest Satch song is either Love Thing or Cryin'. Not technically difficult by any means - there's no super fast lines, tapping, or anything like that - but to capture the fluidity and grace of those pieces is virutally impossible.

Shogun Vai - Sorry but karate is not as good as Tae-Kwon Do. Domo arigato Did i say that right? Ever read Shogun by James Clavell. It's my favourite book, got me interested in samauri and swords, etc... What's bye in Japanese? Edit: Master Yoda - Nicely said. Those things can be just as hard as speed and technicality. I'm trying AWMAWY and it's hard getting the same sound and perfection in movement like the man himself. >eta<

Trutina-I hope you'll be allright in near future because it can happen that one time when you'll be in hospital and sleeping very deep, doctors won't see the diffrence between sleeping and unco...(can't spell that) and you'll be in deep troubles! Yes, doctors work less these days , but they still want to be paid better!

eta: I've taken Tae-Kwon Do before!!.... I took lessons in a search for the All Martial Artist in Bruce Lee fashion!!.... I was a trained Shorin-Ryu artist for 3 yrs. when I took up Tae-Kwon Do.... Sensei hated me in sparring.... I kicked everyones ass!!.... And you know why??.... Cause everyone wanted to kick me, and I would be inside them in a flash and take them down everytime!!.... After our first 3 minute sparring matches, Sensei knew I took Okinawan Karate.... And I was the envy of the class....
Im not trying to toot my own horn, but Karate teaches you punching and blocking (Much more than TKD) as well as a powerful roundhouse kick.... There is no need to go to the head (Lost time, predictable move) with a kick (As in Tae-Kwon Do).... We just plow through the body..Tae-Kwon Do stands no chance, and loses everytime.... Sad, but true.... Our Tournaments prove it everytime....
btw, bye is Attode Ne or the more recognized Sayonara :-)

Shogun Vai - I concur! You must have been fighting the white belt beginners, lol. It's not about kicking them in the face, it's more of a means of self defence and coping with an arising situation. There are some low kicks which are just banned from sparring. It's also about creating places in the oppositions guard to get in. Many people interpret it differently depending on each ability. For me i'm tall so i have long legs and arms which therefore make it harder for others to get in, hehehehe. And Tae-Kwon Do is said to be the most effective martial art ever, due to the fact that it is combined with physics, another thing i'm good at :-) So there. Was my Japanese before correct: domo arigato, Shogun Vai san. From now on you can refer to me as eta sama, hehe. Hope i got that right :-) Edit: Wish i could stay but i've gotta go. We'll need to meet up so i can kick your a$$, hahahahaha. Attode Ne Mikey san >eta<

etasan: lol, etasama is correct, but in talking directly to you it is etasan.... :-)
btw, lol, I fought all the way to the Instructor, who was quite agile, but could not stand the infighting.... You see, every Martial Art has it's advantage and disadvantage.... Pluses and Minuses, yin and yang ;-)....
My alltime favorite practice was in Aikijitsu!!.... We learned how to roll and fall first thing.... It is much like Aikido, but the moves follow through to the breaking point..Finish the attacker
concept.... Incredible grappling moves, and we learned the way of the Katana.... Using the sword and the short staff moulded our bodies to deal with any situation.... Great stuff!!
All Martial Arts are good, and all have their benefits.... The biggest one being Inner Soul development....
Attode Ne etasan, as I bow ;-)....

Master Yoda...you are entirely right about "Cryin"....I was able to pick up that tune fairly easy because it's not overly technical....but to really grab it I need to pour my heart into it every time. And most of the time it's still not enough...lol ! It's such a beautiful song I can't help but play it....

Joeman9 - no worries...
Do the Stu - Thanks Austin.
Shogun Vai - so true, EJ is the man on the acoustic. About 10 minutes after I got home yesterday I ran upstairs and gave my Ovation some lovin, haha... I missed it, lol ;-). But ya, I need to hear Dr. Vai work the guitar on Firegarden, after all I just watched him on his triple neck from the G3 DvD, which is pretty cool from my first viewing (skimmed through it)... no Astoria.... ehem... I'm gonna write the biggest email now, the kayak from hell just set sail, lmao.
Stu Clone - Stern avec Wooten? Kickass to the extremous-ness? er... tres bien...

Update on my Satch Fan site: Coming along nicely.
Also I have to agree with Master Yoda, in the UK we get the most annoying load of sh*t on the radio ever.
Although I am not fond of The Darkness I do breath a sigh of release when they come on the radio when I am in the car as I get to hear some real instruments.

Do the Stu - thanks for the advice on the G3 jam mix...I'll see what happens if I change the audio settings
Michelle - right on about VH! I actually like the Roth-era albums better in general, but Sammy is so much better live and seems like such a cooler person. I hope if the rumors that he's back are true that he'll play more of the earlier stuff than he used to. I saw them with Gary in '98 and he did a great job on the old stuff (Mean Street, Unchained, etc)
Just got my tix to see Eric Johnson in Boulder...2nd row, smack dab in the middle YES!!

Hey guys, go to jeffbeckbootlegs.com and listen to him playing "You Never Know". When I first heard it, I thought, "Hey, am I sure this isn't Vai playing here?"!
Joe says the hardest pieces for him to play are the mighty turtle head and the mystical potato head groove thing.
