mikesb - Thanks for the extra info. It's cool that you can always add to a conversation by saying "I interviewed him a while back and..."...LOL. ;-)
Things are still the same today. Joe has indirectly said he's the G3 "boss" in several recent interviews (for G3 2001 and G3 2003). Good for Joe...G3 is his idea after all. I have a feeling this keeps guys like Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page away from the tour, though, which is a bit of a bummer (although I bet Joe would have no problem with going on first if these two guitarists were on the G3 tour with him...but there are still a ton of other situations where Joe probably isn't as flexible).

Austin yeah I guess... it's all corporate nonsense! I still think Joe should be sponsored by Duracell cos he uses batteries when he's on the road ;-)
What does bling bling mean? I'm really getting old it seems :-(
Jazzy yeah I thought pretty much the same, perhaps no chorus (maybe added in the mix) and no acoustic sim (a real one!). Maybe a much dirtier sound, but the guitar's volume was backed off some so it's almost clean ;-) Joe uses effects too, though - listen to pretty much anything from the CP album and you'll hear the unmistakeable sound of the Fullton Ultimate Octave, and there's also his Whammy pedal use too. Steve, well, in my very humble opinion he's been going downhill for some time, but I wouldn't necessarily say he relies (or depends) on effects. They're there - why not use em? ;-) The harmony hut jam is a classic to watch & hear, if you have a decent connection you might want to check it out. Joe & Steve sitting on chairs in a guitar shop just jamming. Very cool. Although many people would say things like "Vai is faster" or "Vai is more technical" or even "Vai is better" I personally think Joe wipes the floor with Steve in that jam ;-) and I'm keeping my arse FIRMLY on the fence too!
Benny Boombox I thought I said Manchester Apollo (can't be arsed looking back). Sorry mate!
Finally, Jazzy, your unnecessary and abuse posts seem to have worked. I tried to be civil. You either tried and failed or didn't try at all. Bye all.

just a quick interview and some tips on playing guitar .
Steve Vai's thoughts on Frank Zappa-
" i was influenced by led zeppellin at first, but when i discovered Frank's music it was everything that i wanted to hear. he could play the guitar wildly and bizarrley and he was funny. he had all of these incredible arrangements too, employing brilliant depth of music theory, and do it all within a song like wild love "...........steve
" your ears are the most important thing to develop, more than technique, more than anything else" ..........steve vai
"when i practice i listen to what im playing and i'll often record it. i even watch my hands in a mirror.".....steve vai
" hitting the right notes and getting yor technique right is so much more important than playing fast.".........joe satriani.
enjoy.....................more to come :-)
this is so cool, im going to see toto in the royal albert hall on the 28th june in the 10th row from the stage.
ive just booked my G3 tickets for the 29th june at the royal albert hall in the 13th row..............two gigs over two nights.

austin, you pay too much attention in econ. lol
btw, amp update... OMG!!! GK rocks! i put on some new strings and this amp made my bass fuckin siiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnggggggggg!!!!!!!!!!
it's got a depth about it that prevades the instrument's entire spectrum, and the electronics on it have a LOT of variety. nothing sounds overdone or spiky through this thing. i just wish i had new strings all the time.

JS JS Good luck man! I wish I was in a band, except I think if I was in a band I'd be performing in more pubs than churches. People in pubs and bars have been drinkin so their not as "on the ball" lol.
Although performing in a church would have to be a must because of the capacity.

962: eugenes trick bag was impossible in the film as they dramatized it however u say it. however the song is possible to play but is quite hard it involves sweep picking if u mastered it and alot of scaling the neck.steve vai actually played the song while the guy pretended to play it. the way he played it int he film is impossible as he goes from one end to another. the actual one is just like a pentatonic scale or somthing. i got it tabbed out and my guitar teacher can play it.
yeah I know Steve played it....that's why it's on Steve's record. And I know it was dramatised for the movie etc etc, and yeah if you're good at sweeping then it's playable. But it's still difficult. I had a look at the tab for it too, and yeah my guitar teacher can semi-play it. It doesn't get round the fact that it's a complete ass of a piece, and it's impossible for me anyway! I look forward to hearing your cover dude! Enjoy G3, I know I will....watching Joe and Vai play gives me those rare occasions where I can totally 'indulge' in the music without having to analyse whether or not I could play it cuz I know I never will do it justice! hehe
marimariSRV, mate! that is harsh, I feel really sorry for you. Basically you need to be telling your supervisor to 'jump on it and spin' cuz working out another earlier tour date would be very difficult. The thing is, Jeff Beck is playing on the 24th, and you need to be at work on the 25th.
To be back at work on the 25th you would have to leave the UK on the 24th, missing Mr Beck. The first UK G3 date is in Manchester, a day before you see Jeff Beck for the first time, so it's not going to work. You need to tell your supervisor that you booked the air-tickets when you were told it would be okay and it would cost you a couple of hundred bucks to cancel them cuz they're e-tickets....make up some crazy story like that!
Ovation1, I re-watched Vai's set tonight and liked it more than I did last night. It is bloody impressive. I watched some of the Jam but switched off to come and use the computer. I'm now listening to the CD of the G3 Jam, and it is definitely not as good as Eric Johnson. That said, Joe's performance on Little Wing is so tasteful, you'd think he wrote it! Enjoy it when it comes out bro!
OCPS470, haha, love what you said about Yngwie on the Denver DVD! rock on! So I'm not the only one who wasn't so impressed by Joe's new tone? I do prefer his tone on LISF....much smoother.
Dude, was it you who recorded the Keeley DS-1 Demo for us? I listened to it quite a bit lately, it's such a nice tune...and a great tone. Did you just have you S-series into the DS-1 into your amp (fender?)? I find a Keeley DS-1 very tempting indeed!

JS JS - Guitar Player magazine is supposed to have a lot of Joe stuff in their April issue. I don't know if it's out yet. If it isn't, it should be out soon.
mick87 - Hahaha...yeah, you got me!
PhryDom - Ugh... "Bling bling" refers to the jewelry that rap / hip hop "artists" wear. When light reflects off their jewelry, it apparently goes "bling bling". Stupid, huh? I didn't know a sound was produced when light reflects off jewelry...haha.
People here are just poking fun at Yngwie because he's wearing a lot of jewelry on the G3 2003 DVD.
The harmony hut jam that you mentioned takes place in the Harmony Hut, which is one of Steve's studios. It isn't a guitar shop...
Stu Clone - Are you able to record something through your amp and put it online? Your amp sounds cool...I'd like to hear it.

Sweep picking is where you play notes on different strings by sweeping the pick across them in one movement, like playing a really quick arpeggio, there are numerous examples of this, the one that springs to mind is the quick run in The Attitude Song as I've just been listening to Vai's anthology. For example, just put your fretting hand into an open chord position, and sweep across the strings in one movement to play all 6 strings(or however many there are in the chord, obviously only 4 for an open D chord) individually in quick succession.

Well it is effectiely quick strumming, every note is articulated on it's own. The hard part is spacing the notes evenly, it's a hard technique to control, you have to apply the right pressure to the pick and practise it pretty hard.....
