Zenfish I think Joe was basically saying Eddie Van Halen (not the band) sorta bridged the gap to keep that over-the-top guitar style going. He kept the music alive and insprired many more guitar players to come.

In response to a few comments I've seen here about the Darkness, I thought I should say that a band isn't necessarily good just because they're better than everything else currently on the radio.

juju808 - Have fun in Florida! :-) I read your post to the tune of The Black Crowes' Cosmic Friend, though, because that's what I'm listening to now...haha.

PhryDom - Geeze! Clear Channel also does stuff in the UK? Ugh... :-(
Greyfox88 - Some effects (distortion, for example) can also cover up minor imperfections in someone's playing (bad timing, etc.). That's probably the argument that's being made against you.
TheBest01 - No, that isn't a JS song.
JS JS - You spelled bored correctly.
PhryDom / Zenfish / OME - I quoted that word-for-word from Joe during his guest DJ spot at 107.7 The Bone last week. The complete quote is:

"[Eddie Van Halen is] one of those guys I count as the savior of electric guitar playing at a time when it could have easily been snuffed out."

Ya Yo Gakk - 95.5 KLOS is the greatest radio station in the state, and definitely one of the last few great radio stations in the country. The morning show is the Mark & Brian Radio Program...I've never made the Steve Vai connection, but that's pretty funny. ;-)

Arrow 93.1 is good as well, but my radio is always tuned to 95.5.

Museman / DelfinoPie - Once Jon posts a more complete listing for the European tour, all you have to do to enter the aftershow pass contest is list yourself as attending your show. If you win, you'll receive an email three days before your show with instructions detailing how to go about getting your two passes.
MatthiasElMariachi - I answered your G3 questions a few posts ago.
962 - Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the G3 DVD... I agree with you about Eric Johnson...that probably doesn't come as a surprise to you, though. ;-)

...Austin...

Greyfox, Eugene's Trick Bag is impossible. the full-neck-sweeps involved would even bring Frank Gambale out in a sweat.

marimariSRV, allright mate?! hehe, no you didn't use too many! Er....Jeff Beck tickets are £50 from RAH? ouch! My Toto tickets were £27.50 each! That suggests to me that Monsieur Beck is putting on a big-ass show! Also, I don't know that you could get any cheaper deal through ticketmaster!

So you're thinking of coming to Bournemouth in the morning? well there's not loads to do in Bournemouth, but in the square there is a nice park/public gardens, and since it'll be summer time, that would be a cool place to hang out for a while. It leads right onto the beach too. Let me know nearer the time if you have made a decision on that cause I'm sure I could spend a morning there! Damn straight! hehe, your english-english is getting good. Dude, that is phat! In fact, it's fit. No really! hehehehehe

Sorry for my lack of response yesterday - I didn't get online at all last night, and as a consequence I not only gave the impression of being ignorant, but i now have 17 pages to trawl through!

I'm just sorting out G3 tickets now...the BIC website says it's "Steve Val".....that's an "i" dammit!
aaaaaaaaahhh! I'm scared - I have 3 weeks to fully-learn 30 songs for a musical I have to play in at college! It's 2 hours long, and I'm in the band that plays throughout, and I have a score and an accompanying CD, but I don't read standard notation so the score doesn't help much! It helps vaguely but....aaaaaahhhhhhhhh!
Ovation1(! hehe), yeah what Austin said, Billy is very bassy live, just not mixed so heavily. Looks like some crazy editing went on on the new G3 DVD too! cool!
Austin, can you re-post a link to round 1 section E...sorry! hehe, nice to see you're agreement on EJ! He is the dog's bollocks!

Yngwie is certainly an innovator, i'll hapilly admit that, he's very much a pioneer, but just not my thing. Besides, EJ's tone is the best i've heard, and his technique is sublime....he'd take some beating!

The Farting Gnome, yeah I thought that was dead cool on Zenland when you hear that guy shout "Oh my god...." hehe. I wanna see EJ live, it's my ultimate objective man, nevermind being half-decent at getting an internationally-recognisable note out of a guitar, I just want to see EJ live! haha
oh yeah, I Yngwie over-does the guitar-slinging and high-kicking thing in the new DVD. He's a bit hyperactive!
Clarky, go to the Bournemouth gig man, then loads of us can meet up! It'll be summer, you can go to the beach, have a nice time!
Powerslave, yeah I have opinions on the UK guitar magazines - they're full of sh*t.
Jazzy Boy, Ibanez already made an all-gold Anniversary RG (it looked awful) but I don't think it got called Goldboy. I think it got called "that minging thing in the corner that nobody seems interested in buying"

962: eugenes trick bag was impossible in the film as they dramatized it however u say it. however the song is possible to play but is quite hard it involves sweep picking if u mastered it and alot of scaling the neck.steve vai actually played the song while the guy pretended to play it. the way he played it int he film is impossible as he goes from one end to another. the actual one is just like a pentatonic scale or somthing. i got it tabbed out and my guitar teacher can play it.
dude.... seems like i'll be going to G3 on my own, ah well. nothing is going to stop me. i don't give a flying f@@@ how much it costs and the fact that i'll be alone on streets at 11 ish wen the concert finishes or at least i get home. i don't care if it lasts for 9 hours and goes into the next day. i'm still going. i am a true dedicated fan and will not miss it.

do the stu: their actually saying the skills could be rubbish and i be using it to cover up. but no.. i only use a stereo chourus on my pedal added with distortion and maybe a bit f delay. but i really use it for the sustain, feedback wateva u call it. just hold that note extra second to make the song sound smooth and dramatic effect like for the love of god.
my theory of acoustic and distortion goes liek this. distortion makes the sound all blended in too make it all smooth but acoustic is more seperated notes to give each note the clear sound. on amplifyier u may hear ure self pick which sometimes destroy the noise. meaning fingerpicking is most suitible. distortion > connect notes, blended in. acoustic> seperated notes to give you clear notes.
dunno if it's true or not. but thats what i think. anyone need to correct me? i'm happy for u to critisise it after all it's somthing i thought of today.

Phrydom: On starry night effects: I would guess a little delay, overdrive, chorus, reverb, an acoustic sim?....

other ones include EQ, Preamp....some other stuff.

I think Joey can pull it off real well with out any effects. But why should he? Vai, I dont know about. I dont think his music will sound 'creative.' I dont think I am off the mark. I believe its true, judging by what I have listened to.

based on little more than my own guess and familiarity w/ joe's music, i'd say starry night = light distortion and delay only.
